Very little is known about Mordred's early childhood. He had been with the Druids for as long as he could remember.
One day, Mordred and his master had gone into Camelot to buy supplies from a contact. Mordred was distressed, something felt off. The contact had informed the King's men in advance of their presence and he was separated from his master. He ran as instructed although, he'd been injured by one of the guards. He hid in the Market Square and found himself in contact with Merlin. Calling out for help, Merlin -- Emrys as Mordred had referred to him as -- brought him to the Lady Morgana's chambers and that was where he hid as he took ill with infection.
Morgana, Merlin and Guinevère had attempted to nurse him back to health with no success. Gaius stepped in due to Merlin's aid and Mordred began to recover.
When he recovered, Morgana tried to smuggle him out of Camelot but ,the first attempt was thwarted by Arthur. Mordred was then to be executed the next dawn. Merlin and Arthur eventually helped him escape, and he promised Merlin that they would meet again some day, as he spoke aloud his name. "Mordred."
He rejoined the Druids and lived with them near the border of Camelot in Cenred's kingdom. He was happy when Morgana came to their settlement although, the woman he had grown close to was injured by a Serket which gave him the chance to take care of her and return her kindness. The reunion was short lived as Arthur and his men searched the Druid Settlement. A group of guards later surrounded him and using his magic he knocked unconscious or possibly even killed the guards.
Even further down the line he joined a group of renegade sorcerers and infiltrated Camelot to steal the crystal of Neahtid. He intended to use it and help the group in order to take down Uther. They had successfully stolen the crystal. Guards stormed the campsite he was staying in and he used magic yet again to kill two guards that had been chasing him. Upon noticing Merlin, he used his telepathic ability to tell Merlin "I shall never forgive this, Emrys, and I shall never forget."

Everything was moving about in a rapid tempo, it was like he was stuck in slow-motion as his mentor pulled him along into the city gates and into the market square. Mordred's gaze travelled from the throngs of citizens of Camelot to his master, head tilting backward. Only his over-large hood keeping the sun from blinding his eyes as he squinted slightly. Something wasn't sitting right with him as Cerdan stopped at one of the villager's tables to do business. The young boy's head tilted as he idly listened to his guardian attempt to sell something he'd made and the child – almost a man now, despite his small stature – found his attention drifting to an amulet on the table.
Cerdan, he thought, eyes settled on the amulet for another moment as he. I wish to get this amulet. I find myself drawn to it.
The boy's guardian proceeded to look down at the stall, catching the sight of the amulet that Mordred was speaking of. “Will you not trade perhaps? I see that my charge has taken a fancy to one of your amulets. We have very little gold, will you not accept a trade for it?”
Mordred briefly smiled as his mentor traded their item for the pendant, and Mordred lowered his hood as he silently thanked his father-figure.
