.:Name of Character:. Lady Morgana Pendragon
.:Nick Name:. Morgana, The Witch, Queen
.:Age:. 25
.:Race:. Camelotian, High Priestess of the Old Religion
.:Status:. Royalty/Nomad| ~ ⢠~ | Appearance | ~ ⢠~ |
.:Physical Appearance:. To say that Morgana is beautiful would be an understatement. She is stunning, with porcelain skin that creates a striking contrast against her long, jet black curls. But her most arresting feature is her pale green eyes, which may seem icy cold when she is angry. In her days at Camelot, she was known for her beautiful, luxurious gowns of shimmering silks and satins and her rich velvet cloaks, but these days, she is more inclined to dress all in black, her hair now tangled and messy instead of being impeccably styled.
.:Height:. 5'5"
.:Portrayed by:. Katie McGrath| ~ ⢠~ | Personality | ~ ⢠~ |
.:Personality:. Morgana once was a proud but good-hearted, compassionate young woman with a spirited and daring nature. But time and circumstances have changed her, and all that she once was is now buried under layers of anger, bitterness, and pain. She is vengeful and cold, but at times, one can see glimpses of the girl she used to be. She seems to be consumed with hatred and greed, allowing her magic and her anger to corrupt her. But deep down, she is hurt and damaged, and has been twisted by the influences of people, like her half-sister Morgause, who did not really have her best interests at heart. Her initial motivation might have been to get revenge on Uther Pendragon, who she believed to be a cruel and unforgiving tyrant, she does not realize just how much she has come to resemble him in her quest to take over the throne of Camelot, which she believes to be rightfully hers.
.:Strengths:. Morgana's strengths include her magical ability and her ability to see the future in her dreams. She is also highly intelligent, stubborn, determined, and a strong fighter.
.:Weaknesses:. Morgana's greatest weakness is her short-sightedness. She often acts without properly thinking thing through, and even when she does plot things out carefully, she still fails to see the overall effect of her actions. She is easily influenced by the wrong people, and often allows anger to cloud her judgement. Although some people would say she no longer cares about anything but herself, the truth is, she cares too much, and after being let down and betrayed by people she cared about, she allowed her pain to turn into bitterness.
.:Magic Abilities:. Natural magic, prophecy (Seer), common spells.
.:Special Skills:. She is also a skilled swordfighter and horseback rider.
.:Accents:. British, of the upper class.| ~ ⢠~ | History | ~ ⢠~ |
.:Birthplace:. House of Gorlois
.:Family:.
Mother: Vivienne, deceased
Father: Uther Pendragon, deceased
Adopted Father: Gorlois
Paternal Half-Brother: Arthur Pendragon
Maternal Half-Sister: Morgause
.:Occupation:. High Priestess of the Old Religion, would-be queen of Camelot
.:Current Location of Residence:. Hovel in the woods
.:History:. Morgana's mother Vivienne had an affair with Uther Pendragon while her husband, Gorlois, was away fighting in the Northern Plains, and Morgana was the result. She was raised in the house of Gorlois, believing him to be her true father. She was close with Gorlois, and he was very fond of her as well. Her mother Vivienne died when Morgana was very young, and her first-born daughter, Morgause, was smuggled out of Camelot before Morgana was even born and given to the High Priestess of the Old Religion for training.
Morgana was only ten years old when Gorlois was killed in battle by enemies of Camelot. Uther, guilt-ridden over the death of his closest friend, took Morgana to raise as his "ward," all the while secretly hiding the fact that she was actually his daughter. Morgana, devastated by the death of her adopted father, fought Uther with everything she had, questioning him and challenging him and rebelling against him at every opportunity. She trained in combat, especially swordfighting, alongside her half-brother Arthur, and even bested him a few times. She also began having terrible nightmares, some of which seemed prophetic. She didn't understand them and it took her years before she realized that her dreams often came true. She sought aid from Gaius, the court physician, who recognized the beginning stages of magic and tried to help the young girl by stifling it with sleeping potions.
As she grew, Morgana saw first hand the effects of Uther's ban on magic. She saw executions ordered, people begging for their lives, grieving mothers crying for their children and swearing vengeance. She tried to argue against it, begging Uther for leniency. She didn't really see magic as being an instrument as evil, as Uther did, but she recognized the evil in his attempts to eradicate it without concern for whom he might hurt in the process.
Through the years, her closest friend was her lady's maid, Guinevère. Gwen was someone she could tell her secrets to, someone she could laugh with. She didn't even think of her as a servant, but as her friend. She was also close with Arthur, although they did have something of a friendly rivalry.
When Merlin came to Camelot and became Arthur's servant, Morgana developed a friendship with him as well. She saw him as someone she could trust, and when he brought a young druid boy to her for protection, she was only too glad to help. Surely it was wrong for Uther to kill such a young boy, simply because he was a druid, and she would not allow it. She fought to save the boy, who was ill, and eventually convinced Arthur to help her get the boy out of Camelot. As her magical powers began to grow, she turned to Merlin seeking reassurance. He couldn't give that to her, but he sent her in the direction of the druids, where she met with Mordred again and learned the truth of her powers.
When Morgause first came to Camelot, Morgana felt an immediate connection with her. Morgause even gave her a bracelet that stopped the nightmares which Morgana had been suffering from with increasing frequency. Because of this, Morgana was eager to meet with Morgause again when she received a message from her, and it was then that she learned that Morgause was her long-lost older sister. After expressing her anger and hatred of Uther and his tyranny, Morgause enlisted her to help with her plan to overthrow him, without revealing the truth of the plan. She enchanted Morgana, making her the source of a terrible sleeping plague, that caused everyone in Camelot to fall into a deep sleep. Arthur and Merlin, who had been away when the plague began, returned to Camelot to find that Morgana was the only one awake, and an army of enchanted soldiers coming to invade the defenseless city. Merlin soon realized that Morgana was the source of the plague and that the only way to end the plague was for Morgana to die, or for Morgause to remove the enchantment. So he reluctantly poisoned Morgana with hemlock-laced water. As she gasped for breath, Morgana realized that Merlin had betrayed her. With one last accusing look, Morgana lost consciousness. But Morgause, sensing her sister's distress, came to her rescue and demanded that Merlin tell her what he used to poison Morgana. He did, but only after she removed the enchantment. As the spell lifted and the plague's effects wore off, Uther regained consciousness just in time to see Morgause vanish with Morgana.
Morgana stayed with Morgause for a year, during which time Uther scoured the countryside searching for her. She learned magic from Morgause, and her powers grew, as did her anger and bitterness at Camelot and all of its residents. When finally, Arthur discovered Morgana seemingly in distress at the remains of a druid camp, Morgana was thirsty for revenge and ready to play the part of the loving, dutiful ward. Throughout the next several months, Morgana plotted and schemed against the king, and is always thwarted by Merlin.
On Morgana's birthday, Merlin, believing that Morgana was going to murder Uther, caused Morgana to fall down the stairs, where she fractured her skull. Gaius said that the injury was a fatal one, and did not expect her to recover, which devastated Uther. While standing over her unconscious body, Uther revealed for the first time a terrible secret--Morgana was not just his ward, she was his daughter. What he did not know was that Morgana, though unconscious, heard him. She did recover when Merlin used magic to heal her, and she awoke with a new sense of vengeance. Not only did she want to destroy Uther's reign, but she now wanted to take the throne for herself, which she believes she deserves.
She continued to plot and scheme, even against Arthur and Gwen, and eventually succeeded in taking over Camelot with the help of Morgause, Cenred, and an immortal army. She became queen for a while, but her tyranny made her hated by the people of Camelot, and eventually she was defeated by Merlin, Arthur, and Arthur's knights, including Lancelot, Gwaine, Elyan, and Percival. Morgause was injured in the battle, and a grieving Morgana escaped Camelot with her sister.
Morgana continued in her mission to take over the throne of Camelot, even after Uther's death. She has essentially turned against everyone she once cared about in her quest, and she has been reduced to living in a small hovel in the woods.| ~ ⢠~ | Sample Post | ~ ⢠~ |
Smoke filled the air, clogging her lungs and making it difficult to breathe. She could barely see her hand in front of her face as she slowly got to her feet. Pain shot through her leg and back, and she nearly fell back to the hard sand. Taking a deep breath, she stayed on her feet and began to walk through the smoky battlefield, stepping over the bodies of the dead and wounded. As she moved, she could recognize the harsh smells of blood and death, and when she looked down she could recognize the faces of people she once knew. Sir Leon, Gwaine, Elyan... Arthur. They were all dead. A sharp pain shot through her side, and she felt to her knees beside Arthur's motionless form. She felt the sting of tears in her eyes as she looked at him, his once proud face now still and vacant. For a moment, she closed her eyes, remembering how close they had once been. That had been so very long ago.
She touched the painful spot in her side, and felt the telltale stickiness of blood against her fingers. It was a large wound... probably a mortal one. So many lives lost... and what was it for? Suddenly it didn't seem important anymore. She wished she could go back to her days at Camelot, when she was Uther's ward. That was before the magic, before the death, before the violence and hatred. She'd had friends then. Now she was alone.
Or was she? She heard a movement, not far away, and she looked up to see a figure standing near her. Merlin. The accusation was there in his eyes, but he didn't say a word. He didn't have to. She knew what he was thinking. She had done this. It didn't have to be this way, but she'd made her choices.
The pain seemed to double, and she began to shake. She was dying...
Then she sat up in her bed, her brow drenched with sweat. The nightmares were getting worse... But surely that wasn't her future, was it?
