.:Name of Character:. (Sir) Mordred .:Nick Name:. The Druid Boy .:Age:. 17 .:Race:. Druid .:Status:. Nomad
| ~ • ~ | Appearance | ~ • ~ |
.:Physical Appearance:. Mordred has a youthful look, his rounded face seeming innocent. His hardened, usually serious expression can take away from that, however. His gaze is a strong one, blue eyes unafraid to lock onto those of another person. Long curly dark brown hair reaches some way down his neck and forehead, stopping a couple of centimetres above his eyebrows. The general effect of his facial features and expression is to give the impression of someone who is warm, kind-hearted, yet serious and perhaps even a little scared of something.
Mordred has a strong build and is reasonably tall. Years of banditry and running shaped him into a strong young man, and training as a knight only helped this appearance. While he might be physically strong, there is still an air of fragility about him, as though his appearance simply hints at the strength he holds rather than openly show it. Donning chain mail and cloaks counters this, however, showing to the world that he is a Knight of Camelot. He wears his armour a lot of the time, but will wear a more casual attire of a shirt and trousers. He wears an emerald green cloak for warmth. .:Height:. 6'0" .:Portrayed by:. Alex Vlahos/Asa Butterfield

.:Personality:. Despite his destiny, Mordred is a likeable person. He knows his place and is respectful, loyal, and an honourable person overall. He looks up to other knights, especially Arthur, seeing them as good friends and people he can learn much from. He is not hostile towards Arthur despite Arthur's stance on magic, having learned from the druids to be peaceful and kind. This enables him to look for the best in other people and see good in them even if they see the worst in him. This also makes him very loyal to his friends, which is not necessarily a good thing since his friends lie both on the side of Camelot and of Morgana. Creating conflict within him, he is reluctant to fight against the people he was once close to despite wishing to protect and serve Camelot as a knight.
While his confidence has grown as Mordred has got older, he can still feel the need to prove himself and can think strive for other's approval. As a child, he spoke so rarely many thought him when first meeting him to be mute, although he would communicate with other magic-users through telepathy. Fear surrounded him as he possessed powerful magic. In his adulthood, by using magic less his confidence has grown his he is less afraid of being found out. He is still a fairly quiet person, but is more confident in speaking up for himself and talking to people in general.
Mordred can be very sensitive, developing close emotional bonds to people. He can communicate over longer distances using telepathy with people he is the closest to. He also has a sense for magic users, even from a young age able to detect Merlin and call for help, being the first human to recognise Merlin as Emrys despite having never seen him before. This sensitivity to other people goes some way to explaining the loyalty and closeness he develops with some people, making him willing to go out of his comfort zone to help people as well as the large emotional responses to other people's pain, for example when he smashed Morgana's mirror when he was just a young boy when he felt his father being executed. .:Strengths:. Combat, persuasive, his magic abilities. .:Weaknesses:. Conflicting loyalties, feels the need to hide his magic so rarely uses it, can be shy, especially when he was younger, does not always act rationally. .:Magic Abilities:. Mordred possesses incredibly strong magical abilities, powers to rival even Morgana, yet not as powerful as Merlin. He has natural magic, and as such is able to use a host of spells with no need for speaking aloud. He can communicate using telepathy to any magic user, although he does this less often as an adult. His telekinetic powers are strong, enabling him to move or break even large heavy objects. This often happens uncontrollably when he is in an emotional state, such as on the death of his father, Cerdan. .:Special Skills:. As well as telepathy and natural magic, Mordred is handy with a sword, having had training as a Knight of Camelot. .:Accents:. Well-spoken English
| ~ • ~ | History | ~ • ~ |
.:Birthplace:. Druid camp, outskirts of Camelot .:Family:. Cerdan - father (deceased) Thonyn - mother (deceased) .:Occupation:. Druid Apprentice/Knight of Camelot .:Current Location of Residence:. Camelot .:Friends:. The druids Kara Morgana (as a child and at the end of his life) Alvarr (as a bandit) Ragnor (as a bandit) Gwen (before alliance with Morgana) Merlin (before alliance with Morgana) Arthur (before alliance with Morgana) Knights of Camelot (before alliance with Morgana) Gaius (before alliance with Morgana) .:Enemies:. Morgana (only while evil, until Kara died) Arthur (after Kara died) Merlin (after Kara died) Camelot (after Kara died) .:History:. His parents both being druids, it was no surprise when Mordred showed magical abilities from a very young age. The extent of his magic abilities, however, was impressive even for a druid, and so as was custom for druids with children of great magical potential, he was taken as an apprentice. His father and master, Cerdan, taught him much about magic and he grew up following the peaceful life of the druids.
This changed with the death of his father. Despite only passing through Camelot briefly to collect supplies, a shopkeeper had tipped off the guards about the presence of the two druids in the city. Cerdan was captured, but used magic to close a gate, preventing the guards reaching Mordred. Wounded and scared, he hid and reached out to the mind of the nearest magic user - Merlin - and called for help. He recognised Merlin as Emrys, a powerful sorcerer the druids spoke about often, despite having never seen him before. Merlin helped him, hiding him in Morgana's chambers. Morgana, Gwen, Merlin and eventually Gaius, helped nurse Mordred back to health. During this time Cerdan was executed and a bond was formed between Mordred and Merlin, an even stronger one between him and Morgana. Two escape attempts had to made to return him safely to the druids; the first, by Merlin, Gwen and Morgana, failed. With the help of Morgana, Arthur and (reluctantly) Merlin, he escaped Camelot safely, the druids saying they were in Arthur's debt for this kind act.
Having resumed his previous life with the druids for some time, Morgana and Mordred were reunited. Morgana had begun to show signs of magic. Mordred was delighted to have the chance to help her as she had helped him before, telling his people who she was and taking care of her. Uther's soldiers found and raided the camp, however, wishing for Morgana to return to Camelot and believing they were rescuing her. Mordred was then briefly reunited with Merlin before being surrounded by soldiers. Using his powerful magical abilities, he was able to knock them back with a single spell and so escaped with the rest of the druids.
After this, life worsened for the druids. Further raids on their camps and increased prejudice as Uther convinced himself incorrectly that the druids were secretly plotting against him led to desperate times. Mordred joined a group of bandits under the leadership of the sorcerer Alvarr. Mordred and Alvarr snuck into Camelot, where they were able to convince Morgana to steal the Crystal of Neahtid. He was pleased to see Morgana again when she brought them the crystal. Yet again, soldiers attacked the camp, Merlin with them this time. They were less lucky this time. All the bandits were killed, aside from Alvarr who was captured. Mordred tried to flee, but Merlin used his magic to extend a low branch to trip him up. Seeing no other option but to kill the two soldiers, Mordred used his magic to send two spears at the two soldiers without even uttering a word. Unable to see why Merlin would want him dead as he was unaware of his own destiny, he sent a threat to him using telepathy before fleeing; "I shall never forgive this, Emrys, and I shall never forget". He had difficulty understand why the man who was supposed to be the greatest sorcerer who ever lived would try to kill a young druid child.
Several years passed with Mordred living among druids, sorcerers and bandits, traveling between a host of different kingdoms. Life was never easy while showing his magic in the open, so Mordred began hiding it. Mordred found himself in the company of Arthur and Merlin again after years away, this time Mordred having grown into a young man working alongside Ragnor. They captured Merlin and Arthur and would have killed them had Mordred not insisted Morgana should decide their fate. Despite trying to take the two to Morgana in Ismere, Mordred felt he owed Arther a 'life debt' for saving him as a child, and so treated them kindly. As a result, his life was spared when the two escaped.
Ragnor and Mordred went to Morgana anyway, Mordred and Morgana being happy to see each other again. However, when he revealed that he had captured Arthur but had let him escape, Morgana grew angry with him and proved impossible to calm down. This changed Mordred's view of her, making him realise how twisted she had become.
Mordred was present when Morgana did corner Arthur and hold him at sword-point, showing no mercy to her former friend whom she had previously felt was like a brother. This was the point at which Mordred snapped. He believed that despite Arthur's attitude, he was a good man at heart, while Morgana was clearly turning evil. The kingdom would not fare well with her in place of Arthur, and so he did what seemed best for the kingdom at the time, although it was difficult due to his friendship with Morgana; he turned, stabbing her. Not to kill, but enough for Arthur to escape. Mordred left Morgana and returned to Camelot with Arthur and Merlin, where he was knighted.
Mordred proved a capable knight, showing excellent combat skills to rival even Arthur himself. A strong friendship formed between him and Arthur, but his relationship with Merlin was more rocky since although he was was friendly towards Merlin and Merlin was not unkind to him, he felt as though Merlin had something against him since the sorcerer would always seek the worst in his actions and would question any good deed he did. The two were not enemies as such, but their friendship was a strange one full of doubt and, on Mordred's part, confusion. They each liked the other as people and had shared their greatest secret - magic - with one another, but as Merlin knew Mordred was to have a part in Arthur's death, things were never easy.
On his very first mission as a knight, Mordred was nearly killed. After the patrol succeeded in killing the sorcerer Osgar, they spoke to Disir, who wounded Mordred. Arthur set off to save him, but Merlin, unbeknownst to Mordred, tried to prevent Arthur saving him at great cost to himself; he insisted magic could not be allowed in Camelot, hoping this option would let Mordred die. The Disir instead healed Mordred, knowing his destiny was to kill Arthur. After this event, Mordred attended many events such as the anniversary of Arthur's coronation, Elyan's cremation, and meetings of the Round Table. He was once the leader of the manhunt on the sorceress Finna, where he helped Merlin by claiming not to see the other person, Merlin, who accompanied her.
Mordred played a part in restoring Guinevère and keeping Morgana at bay while Arthur and Merlin attempted to restore her from Morgana's enchantments. He, with a group of other knights, ran into Arthur and Merlin as they traveled to find the Dolma. He saw Guinevère's hand hanging down from the back of a horse so knew she was with them, but did not tell the other knights and instead accompanied Arthur and Merlin to restore her, helping them when they are trapped. Morgana attacked before they could reach their destination, setting Aithusa on them. Merlin and Mordred were both knocked back by Morgana's magic, but while Merlin escaped, Mordred was knocked unconscious. When he woke up, Morgana teased him but he told her how much she had changed from the kind young woman she had been when he was a child, enabling him to defeat her with his own magic and escape. He was aware Merlin was the Dolma, but covered his secret up.
On a hunting trip, Mordred thought he saw someone escaping. After chasing and nearly killing them, he realized it was in fact Kara, a love interest from before he had become a knight. She was injured, so he told her to run and find somewhere to hide or the knights would kill her. Returning to Arthur, he claimed it was just a deer. Arthur believed him, but Merlin, ever suspicious, did not, knowing Mordred lied, his distrust for the druid growing. Mordred stole a healing potion from Gius and secretly tended to Kara's wounds. Merlin quizzed him about where he was, and, trusting Merlin and not realizing the extent of the sorcerer's suspicion of him, explained everything about Kara to him, receiving a promise that Merlin would not tell anyone. Of course, Merlin did tell Arthur, and as a result Kara was captured and sentenced to death. After speaking with her, Mordred was shocked by the hatred she had for Camelot, believing Arthur to be a good man, but wanted to help her escape all the same.
Mordred at first begged Arthur to let Kara go free, claiming Morgana's work was at play here and so it was not her fault, but Arthur's mind could not be changed. He resorted to helping her escape, but Merlin tipped Arthur off and the two druids were met with a group of knights as they fled. Kara encouraged Mordred via telepathy to use his magic to kill them, but having made friends with the knights, Mordred did not want to do this. Before he had to make a decision, Percival knocked him unconscious, and so he found himself in a prison cell. When Kara was executed, he felt her pain, the power of his scream enough to force open the door to his cell. He made his escape and found Morgana. Making an alliance with her, his destiny was finally starting to seem possible. Blinded by hatred at Kara's death and the feeling of betrayal from Merlin to revealing her to Arthur, he betrayed Merlin in return. He revealed to Morgana that Merlin was in fact Emrys, the sorcerer whose destiny she knew of and who she was set on finding and destroying.
Mordred and Morgana stood side-by-side as they prepared for war on Camelot. The two used their magic together to create a fireball to overcome a garrison, killing everyone within and making it a fortress for the Saxons. Morgana forged a sword for him from Aithusa's breath, this sword able to match Excalibur as it too was forged in a dragon's breath. Eira informed them that Merlin, having lost his magic, was heading for the Valley of Fallen Kings. Mordred told Morgana of the location of the crystal cave, suggesting Merlin intended to restore his magic there. He and Morgana discussed plans to stop Arthur, Mordred agreeing to personally chose the best warriors to flank him along a secret path in order to surprise him.
During the battle of Camlann, Mordred fought mercilessly against his former allies. He neared Arthur, noticing he was busy tending to a wounded knight. Arthur turned around, hearing him, but hesitated as he saw it was his former friend. Mordred used this opportunity to stab Arthur, leaving a fragment of his dragon-forged sword within him. Having given him the wound that would kill him a few says later, as Arthur falls he insisted "You left be no choice." Arthur had the strength left to get back up and stab him in return. Mordred died at Arthur's hand. He was buried shortly after the battle by Morgana, upset at his death. Despite sorcerers not being allowed marked graves, Morgana gave him one, planting his sword in front of it. The prophesy had come true and his destiny had been fulfilled.

The sky darkened rapidly as night drew closer, rain splattering the ground. A smile was on Mordred's face all the same as he stood at the walls of Camelot castle, looking out over the kingdom. The young knight stood proudly in his new armour and red cape, watching the sun sink gradually down the murky grey sky. The light rain was starting to stick his hair down to his forehead, but he did not mind. At long last, he could stop running. No more fleeing knights and soldiers, no more fearing who he was. He could leave his dark days of magic and banditry behind him, and could finally be proud of the person he was. Knight of Camelot. Friend to Arthur Pendragon. It was a great shame that Morgana had turned to evil, but having met her it was clear why Arthur would fight against her. He had been surprised by how much she had changed from the selfless, kind woman who had taken care of him as a child, but there was no escaping it as fact.
There was a great sense of belonging that accompanied being a knight, too. Arthur had taken a liking to him, and although the others often teased him, he knew that really they did care for him. It was as if they were all his brothers. Gwen too was a lovely person, and he was glad to have her as queen. Everything in this kingdom rang with a sense of peace. Just being here in this position was calming, relaxing despite knowing he would face injuries and possibly even death for the protection of this kingdom. But that was all fine, since the kingdom in return protected him, helped him to become the best version of himself.
Everyone and everything seemed perfect... except Merlin. The two got along all right, and Mordred would like to consider him a friend, but the servant always seemed to doubt his motives. It was infuriating the way he seemed to expect him to turn evil at any moment. He knew the destiny of Merlin, or Emrys, and so thought he should be helping him. They shared a bond through their magic, but there was definitely something further at work here with the fellow powerful sorcerer. It was as though he knew something Mordred did not, had seen something inside him that he did not like and so wanted to eradicate from the face of the earth. Mordred gave a sigh, turning to go inside. He had stabbed Morgana to save Arthur's life, and Merlin still doubted him. He was resigned to prove himself to the sorcerer, determined to show he truly was a good person. He had the respect of his fellow knights, but he still wished to earn the respect in the man he knew to be the greatest sorcerer who ever lived.
