| ~ • ~ | Character Basics | ~ • ~ | .:Name of Character:. Brynn Reade .:Nick Name:. Goosey, Red, Ninni (only by her little siblings) .:Age:. 17 .:Status:. Servant
| ~ • ~ | Appearance | ~ • ~ |
.:Physical Appearance:. Brynn is not the tallest and her build is also rather slim, but not skinny. Her womanly figure has just blossomed into full bloom. Her hair is a reddish brown, much like a fox’s fur and is mostly weared in a tight braid while most of it his hidden by a white cap she wears almost everday when herding the geese or helping out in the kitchens. Brynn’s eyes are of a mossy green while the part directly around the pupil shows a warm brown color a bit broader in the left eye than in the right. Those eyes most of the time look curiously and with a hint of mischief at this world and show her true feelings most of the time while her face is usually deadpan by long years of being all but a shadow to the noble world. Her clothes show her servant status, they are worn but clean, because her mother keeps a close eye on her daughter’s appearance, though Brynn surely wouldn’t mind the occasional grass stains she gets from her days out in the open.
.:Height:. 5’5’’ .:Portrayed by:. Karoline Herfurth
| ~ • ~ | Personality | ~ • ~ |
.:Personality:. Brynn is usually quiet and mild, the perfect picture of a dutiful servant girl. She doesn’t shy away from work and even if she had a long day herding the geese, you can find her in the kitchen until late at night, lending a helping hand to those who need it. To her two younger siblings she is a caring but also strict elder sister, she often takes them outside with her so that her mother doesn’t have to look after them every waking hour. Although she is already pretty mature, Elinor and Gyrth can still bring out the childish side of Brynn. Her chasing after one or the other in the meadows outside Camelot is a common sight. But however mature, reasonable and dutiful Brynn can be, there is still another side of her, which doesn’t break out often, but if it does it might not get away unnoticed. She sometimes can’t keep her own cheeky thoughts to herself and though she doesn’t want to be insubordinate, her replies can be seen as too bold at times. Brynn also has some mischievous bone, she can be caught playing tricks on someone who crossed her, nothing mean, just something that would make you think twice to underestimate her again.Ever since she has learned about her special ability though, even if she isn’t sure yet if it’s something magical or simply childhood imagination coming creepily alive, she is more cautious and tries to blend in more. Although she is too young to have experienced the Great Purge she still had ample opportunity to watch what happens to those with magic in Camelot, and she doesn’t want to take any risks
.:Strengths:. - handling animals - reasoning with and guarding her siblings - singing - blending in if she wants to - loyalty to her friends
.:Weaknesses:. - her secret she doesn’t even fully understand herself - too bold at times - highly claustrophobic - is overprotective over her siblings
.:Magic Abilities:. She can to a certain extent demand the wind, so it picks up in intensity or calms down. However she is just learning that this is something extraordinary and is reluctant to test her skills if they could be enhanced. This ability is (unbeknown to her) due to a stone pendant necklace she has had since birth and never asked her parents where it came from.
.:Special Skills:. she likes to sing and has trained her voice in years of unonserved singing while herding the geese. She can carve and do pretty flower wreaths to entertain her siblings
.:Accents:. lower class
| ~ • ~ | History | ~ • ~ |
.:Birthplace:. Camelot City .:Family:. Father: John Reade, 39, guard of Camelot without considerable rank. He mostly guards either the parapet or the throne hall in weekly shifts. Brynn adores her father even if she doesn’t see much of him.
Mother: Meghan Reade, née Crosswater, 36, kitchen maid of Camelot. A kind and jolly nature, she is the typical mother hen. She is also the only one at least to have an uneasy sense about her daughter’s affinity for wind and it being connected to that pendant she received a few years before Brynn’s birth. Her relationship to Brynn is very close, maybe sometimes too close and too protective for the girl’s taste
Brother: Gyrth, 8, a very lively boy, he worships knights in general and Arthur Pendragon in particular, and dreams of becoming a knight of Camelot one day, regardless of his inferior birth. Brynn has a close eye on him so he doesn’t get too reckless, but oat the same time she was the one carving him a little wooden sword for his last birthday.
Sister: Elinor, 6, sunny girl, literally everbody’s darling in the servanthood of Camelot. Brynn loves her dearly and both girls can be found in endless chasing games or wreatheing flowers in summer. Elinor is certain she once will be a goosemaiden like Brynn and the older sister supports her in that wish.
.:Occupation:. Goosemaiden and occasional kitchenmaid.:Current Location of Residence:. The Meadows outside Camelot
.:History:. Brynn was born on a stormy fall’s day to the young couple John and Meghan Reade three years after the Great Purge. As Meghan had miscarried a few times the newborn child was welcomed with greatest joy and soon was her parent’s darling. An event prior to her birth should shape Brynn’s life possibl forever, although at that time no one had even as much as a hunch.
During the Great Purge Meghan, newly married and already with child one evening heard scratching noises in the big oven and as she looked, found a girl around 15 hidden inside, trying to get as far back as possible, flinching away from Meghan. It took a great deal of calm coaxing and a show of severe goodwill to get her out of her hiding place, and through patiently asking questions, Meghan found out whom she was dealing with. The girl had been betrayed to a witch finder by her own sister just as she had wanted to escape into the woods and had sought shelter in the lion’s den, not knowing how to get out of the town.
Even though Meghan knew what awaited those who sided with sorcery, the big scared eyes of the girl gnawed on her conscious and she agreed to find a way to smuggle her out of Camelot. An adventureous quest ensued in which Meghan heavily exploited her good relations with the guards of Camelot, as the wife of one of their own, and somehow the venture was succesful without them being caught. As a show of gratitude the still nameless girl gave Meghan a stone pendant in piercing blue, blessed her swollen womb and made her promise that this pendant should be a gift to Meghan’s first daughter.
However, Meghan lost this first child and another one after that and almost began to think the girl had cursed her instead of blessed. When Brynn was born, though, she was deeply joyed and remembered the promise, acting on it. Ever since she can remember Brynn weared this blue pendant, encarved on the backside of its teardrop shape with a special sign which she suspected to be the carver’s signature. Brynn grew up as a wild child, preferring the open meadows and woods to the smoky kitchens. As she also took a liking to animals and just had a way with them, she became a goosemaiden at the age of ten. Now her days were filled with what she liked most: Herding geese, running and feeling free, even if she also didn’t mind to return into the safety of the castle.
It was somehow around those first years outside when little Brynn realised that the wind was her friend, like she called it. She had always liked storms, not hiding behind her mother’s skirts like other little girls did when the gusts of wind whipped around the walls, but in fact wanting to be in the midst of it. At first it was nothing but a game. She would hum a song, and if the text carried some verses like: “blow, wind, blow” her hair would wave in a refreshing breeze that had not been there before. Or it would help her to run faster, almost making her feet move off the ground when she wanted to win a race.
As she became older, Brynn began to slowly understand that other people couldn’t do this, and she also had been attentive enough to know stories about magic. Even if she wasn’t sure about it her mind now began to put two and two together. One day she put her notion to the test, she was already 15 then and had to watch over her little brother Gyrth. He had vexed her to no end today, always pulling her hair and doffing her white cap as soon as she sat down. As he tried it again, she sprang to her feet and glared at him, whispering:
"Blow, blow, thou gentle wind, I say, Blow Gyrth’s little hat away, And make him chase it here and there, Until I have braided all my hair, And bound it up again." The second she had concluded that little makeshift verse, a gust of wind took Gyrth’s hat away, always just a tad out of his reach, and Gyrth, not suspecting anything bad with his child’s mind, forgot about his sister immediately, chasing after his head. Even as he looked so funny and it pleased her she had gotten him of her back for the time being, she also was deeply disturbed. This was no accident or imagination! She had actually demanded the wind to do something for her and it had happened!
From this day on, Brynn kept everything concerning the wind to herself, didn’t even speak to her mother about it, though if she had, she might have got some answers she craved for.It can happen now and again, when a storm is rising, that Brynn still itches to command the wind, and her friendly feeling towards this element hasn’t changed one bit even if she’s scared. So, if she attempts anything at all, she will make sure to be all alone in a vast place where no one can sneak up on her and find her out.
