It had been a while since Griff had seen his brother on a purely social visist. He'd been rather busy with trying - and very much failing - to learn about estate management from Rouland, and now the twins were starting to talk they'd become increasingly more demanding. Well, Esmae was, she took after her mother in that respect. In fact, Griff was fairly convinced that his daughter was starting to resemble his wife more and more every day, something which he couldn't quite decide was a good or a bad thing. Caitrin had had a reputation that almost rivalled hi- he wasn't going to go there. That was something to worry about in about many, many years. Besides, today was more important than worrying about whether or not he should consider castrating every under ten in the kingdom. Today was about proving his brother's manhood - something he'd been fairly unconvinced about ever since he understood what it meant.
Normally he'd just walk into whichever room he'd been told Lucan was in, but he supposed today required a little more tact than that - something Griff was obviously brilliant at. He knocked and waited for what seemed like an eternity before he heard his brother's voice telling him to come in. Griff opened the door slowly, peeking his head around before walking in. His brother was stood with his back to him, alone, well obviously not completely alone, but without Camila at least. Before he'd set off, Caitrin had told him that he had to be polite and supportive and basically "not Griff-like", and he had thought of something appropriate to say first. And then proceeded to ignore it.
"Alright, I'm taking this as proof you finally managed to get it up." He grinned, walking over to Lucan who, as he saw now he was facing him, was holding the newborn child in his arms. Griff tilted his head, looking down curiously at his niece. It was a rather strange feeling, obviously he was no stranger to newborn babies, but it was weird thinking that she was his brother's. His brother who, as far as Griff was concerned, knew nothing at all about women or children or combining the two. "She's beautiful. Obviously got her looks from our side."

His brother’s words didn’t amuse him in the slightest, yet he expected him to not greet him with a hello, but some kind of witty remark. The younger Aubert had a rather different sense of humour to Lucan, so instead he chose to the let the greeting go over his head and turn his attention to a more formal one. “Oh Hello Griff, great to see you too” he smirked, turning around with Heidi still moving slightly to get comfortable. She’d complained about being put down for so long in her crib that Lucan had even considered the fact that she’d inherited Camila’s art of protest on certain matters. She certainly wasn’t taking anything lying down – and quite literally – so Lucan had given up and given into Heidi’s demands. Great, so it began. Soon she would be wrapped around his little finger. Then again, it wasn’t too hard to say no.
"She's beautiful. Obviously got her looks from our side."
Lucan gave a small chuckle, “Well…it isn’t hard to.” Heidi had finally given up complaining and had settled down to sleep again. “Do you want to hold her? She’s been quite a madam this last hour or so.” Plus, Griff was far better at holding a baby than he was. When he’d first held Heidi, he thought that she would break in two. She was incredibly tiny – smaller than he had expected her to be – and so delicate that he found his arms turning to jelly.
“Father’s annoyed, he was rooting on a boy” he smirked, for once his father had been speechless, so Allard had told him. “Apparently Uncle said that he didn’t talk to anyone for hours, so I guess I’ve done something right for myself.” Just not in his father’s eyes, but he didn’t care. Nothing else mattered anymore but the tiny little girl now in his brother’s arms.

Lucan hadn’t lost his sense of humour since becoming a father then – well, what little sense of humour he’d had. He was actually surprised to find his brother in such a good mood, when the twins had first been born Griff had been deprived of sleep for what seemed like an eternity and so took it out on whoever happened to be within a three mile radius – except his wife of course, he wasn’t suicidal. “It’s always great to see me.” He replied cheerfully, already having decided that being an uncle was going to provide him with excellent excuses to wind Lucan up all the more. His older brother was probably exhausted and, if he was anything like Griff had been, probably still not entirely coping with the new responsibility – then again, Lucan had always been the more responsible of the two and had a good eight years more life experience. But, instead of being sympathetic and offering words of wisdom, Griff was quite determined to be all the more annoying. It was what uncles did – either that or sit around drinking wine and intimidating any of their niece’s potential suitors.
Griff gave a firm nod in response to Lucan’s reply. Anyone could see the Auberts were blessed with almost impossible good looks (well, Griff was at least, Lucan was a little lacking), and he had no doubt that his niece would have more than her fair share of admirers when the time came. “Takes after her mother already then?” He asked, holding his arms out to take the baby. “Esmae’s just the same.” He carefully took the girl from her father, rocking her gently, remembering the amount of times he had to do this to get one of the twins to go to sleep or to stop crying. It felt rather strange holding such a small child again. Esmae and Arthur were only two, but they were both growing so fast, it seemed like years, and at the same time just a few seconds, since they were both this tiny. “Hello you, who are you then?”
Lucan’s words about their father didn’t surprise him one bit. Even thought Griff had a son himself, Corneous hadn’t bothered to see Arthur, or Esmae despite being his first born grandchild, probably because Arthur wasn’t the first born or wasn’t the son of his first born and therefore not as important. Fortunately, Griff had learnt a long time ago that nothing he did would ever be good enough for Corneous, and could convince himself just about well enough that the man’s presence was not something he needed in his life. “Arthur wasn’t deemed important despite being a boy,” he shrugged slightly, although not too much as to not disturb his niece. “But that’s probably for the best.”
