.:Name:. Merlin .:Nick Name:. Emrys, Young Warlock, The Last Dragonlord, Dragoon the Great .:Status:. Servant .:Age:. Twenty (as of season one)
| ~ • ~ | Appearance | ~ • ~ |
.:Physical Appearance:. Merlin is not a traditionally handsome man, not like Arthur or Gwaine or others men. He is tall and lanky, with dark brown hair and bright blue eyes and a pale complexion. He is strong enough to wield a sword with surprising proficiency, something that catches others of guard, but is not overly muscular or well-built despite this and the hard labor he does on a daily basis.
As Dragoon the Great he has the appearance of a frail old man, as though a strong gust of wind will knock him over. He has long wispy white hair, and a shaggy beard. Dragoon walks with a limp and uses a staff to steady himself, though this is a ruse to further his disguise. While in this disguise he uses his magic without restraint of fear of execution.
.:Height:. Five foot ten inches .:Portrayed by:. Colin Morgan

.:Personality:. There are many sides to Merlin's personality that have been exposed during different parts of his life. At heart he is an incorrigible young man willing to give others the benefit of the doubt and always willing to do what he believes is right despite the risk it might pose to his own safety. He is loyal, without fault, to Arthur -- this is something that can never be questioned as he has proven to be willing to give his own life in place of Arthur's.
Merlin is protective of those he holds dear to his heart, and in some regard even those he does not. He is willing to use his magic to aid them when he can, and employing his other talents when it is not. He is also a jokester; sarcastic, cynical, poking fun at people from time to time though never to intentionally hurt or upset others. His humor is sometimes inappropriate and comes to the surface during inopportune times, something that lands him in a fair bit of trouble.
He is not blind to the greater good. He understands that there are hard choices to be mad in life, that death cannot exist without life, nor good without evil. Merlin is willing, albeit somewhat reluctantly, to make sacrifices should it be proven necessary. Overall Merlin is a complex individual. He is sensitive, but not soft, and is as likely to cry as he is to punch a person in the mouth.
.:Special Skills: Merlin has natural magic, something that is not common in the realm of Albion. Although he is still young and inexperienced with magic, he has great power and potential. Merlin is able to cast spells without incarnations, communicate with and later command dragons - a trait that in time would grow stronger due to the death of his father, Balinor, the last dragon lord - and wield a variety magical artifacts and weapons with little to no training.
He is able to move objects without words, see the future in the crystals in the Crystal Cave, wield a Sidhe staff, sense magical forces in they are near enough, and has even come to understand and master the balance of Life and Death, something few others have been able to do. With The Great Dragon Kilgharrah acts as a magical advisor and guide to the young warlock, aiding him in times of great need, as does the court physician Gaius.
Because of their guidance his spell repertoire and knowledge of magic has increased greatly in only a short time. Merlin in a quick learner, and has an eye for detail or things that are out of place, making him the perfect secret guardian of Arthur Pendragon.
| ~ • ~ | History | ~ • ~ |
.:Birthplace:. Ealdor .:Family:. Hunith, mother, peasant | Balinor, father, dragonlord .:Occupation:. Servant to Arthur Pendragon, Sorcerer, Dragon Lord .:History:. Merlin was born and raised in a small town called Ealdor, an outlying village in the lands of Essetir. He lived here with his mother for approximately twenty years before she sent him to live with her brother in Camelot. Merlin lived a happy childhood with only a few close friends with whom he would cause mischief with, something that would cause his dear mother no end of worry however, Hunith came to fear for her son's safety due to his natural affinity for magic.
She sent her son to Camelot, to live with her elder brother, Gaius, believing that he would be able to teach and guide Merlin through his magical powers. It was here, in Camelot, that his great destiny would begin to unfold. Merlin became Gaius' ward and apprentice, as well as Prince Arthur Pendragon's manservant through unconventional methods. The duo shared an antagonistic relationship in the beginning but quickly began to trust each others, even care for each other.
During this time he learned from the Great Dragon that he was to protect Arthur, to keep him alive, to keep him safe, so that Albion could become a land where magic and peace could prosper. And so began the legendary journey of Merlin. Together the duo would make incredible friendships and devastating enemies, they would see amazing and terrifying creatures, as well as change the world for the better.
