In A Time of Magic The following is a guide to understand the magical powers of those in the world. It also has a bit of history of magic, including the Great Purge and some details about the Old Religion. Below is also a list of different powers some characters may have the ability to perform as well as the rarity of Natural Magic Ability. The Old Religion The Old Religion is a polytheistic pagan religion that is followed by both people and creatures. It is based around magic and the general belief that people should be able to practice it however they wish to. Within the religion there are High Priests and Priestesses who hold the power to perform many different spells and incantations. (Examples of priestesses: Nimueh, Morgause, etc). At the heart of the religion is the power of life and death, but one does not go without the other; if a life is granted then a life must be taken in return and vice versa; this is in order to maintain the balance of the world.
This ability is only mastered and perfected by the most powerful of sorcerers. The Old Religion is dying out as there are few who practice it, especially following the Great Purge. Now most follow the "New Religion" with the exception of those powerful magical beings who are still devout followers of the Old Religion and the Old Ways.

The Great Purge The Great Purge was a period in time that roughly took place 20 years ago, where King Uther of Camelot filtered out all those who practiced magic by sentencing them to death. Many men, women, and children were killed if they were even suspected of being practitioners of magic, or encouraging it in any way. They were burned, drowned, and executed in the most violent manner and this event was a noted day which would end all magic in Camelot and become illegal in the Kingdom. The penalty for magic is still death and this law is enforced vigorously throughout the land.

Magical Abilities Wizards, Warlocks, Sorcerers, Witches, Druids, Seers, etc. (See Post Below For More Details)
[/color]If you character knows magical spell then below are some spells and incantations that one might know. For the purpose of your biography you can just say 'knows minor spells or incantations' or if they are elder then 'has master many spells' and then perhaps list/describe one of two of the spells they are most known for) Anything marked in RED means the ability is extremely rare and you MUST have admin persmission to allow your character to have that power. The only exception is that if your character is a canon and has demonstrated that power on the show. Anything with a STRIKE through it means that we are currently not allowing any characters (except for certain canons) to possess those abilities. Please contact the admin if you have any questions! - Brief Control Over Some Elements i.e. create fire but not control the flame, create a small wind storm etc.
- Curses (please be specific in which curses your character knows)
- Enchantment of Objects
- Moving objects with the use of spells
- Healing with the use of objects and/or incantations
- Love Spells
- Summoning / Creating Mythical Creatures IE: Enchanting an egg to hatch an afanc
- Telepathic communication [only for druids, with the exception of those shown on the show to have this skill]
- Temporary Deep Sleep
- Changing form due to a curse
- Illusions of the Mind

Moving things without the use of spells or objects [Natural Magic]
[/li][li][/color] Natural Magic Ability - This refers to those who have the inherited gift of magic. Those who were born with magic within them or descendants of powerful sorcerers or beings, thus having natural abilities. This involves using magic without having to recite spells and incantations, use objects, and may also include having premonitions and other uncontrolled powers. See admin for more information.
We are currently not allowing any OCs to have Natural Magic Abilities so that we do not take away the rareness found in the characters from the show who possessed it (I.e. Merlin, Morgana, etc)

Spells & Charms vs Natural Magic (See Post Above For More Details) This post is to make clear the the line between natural magic and spells that everyone else must use. Spells can be used by anyone to do just about anything. In order to use a spell you must know the words of the old language and have the objects the spell works through near by. Some softer or less strong spells can be done object free. Charms, cursed items, or magical amulets need do spell but can not be turned on or off at will. - So for the purpose of your biographies you can say they spells to do the following type of things, and then list a few spells they are good at and know. You will not be limited to just these spells. These are only examples.
Natural Magic is all magic done with out the aid of words, and spells and with out the aid of the magical objects near by. No OCs may have natural magic (aside of the new seer's who lack control over their gift to see things) [NOTE: Those O.C's who have already been approved with their powers do not have to change their bios.]] The only cannons who are allowed to have these are the ones who display them in the show such as: Merlin, Morgana, Mordred and some magical creatures. Cannons such as Gaius, Freya, Morgause, and other druids / nomads who had magic, always used spells and charms to use their powers. Please keep this in mind when applying or creating your character.
