“Well we shall never know, as I shall never try.” Elyan chuckled at that. "Well I for one hope you don't. I've come to really like that accent of yours." It was growing on him and he was starting to quite like the accent. It would be a shame for her children not to inherit it, although how that would be possible was beyond him. But Elyan didn't doubt that Caitrin would do all within her power to make sure her children were proud to be Mercian. The thought amused him. "Who knows, maybe you'll turn me instead of the other way round," he said with mock disbelief, before breaking it by chuckling. "Hmm, a Mercian Elyan, complete with red hair and that accent of yours." He pretended to take a moment to 'seriously' consider the thought before he continued to laugh. Maybe sticking to his Camelotian roots would be a better idea. He grinned at her words of her husband liking her red hair. It was certainly a huge feature for Caitrin, so how could her husband not like it. "That he did," he smiled warmly. "But of course how could he not completely adore your flaming red hair?"
Elyan expected Lucan probably already had many friends of his own. Maybe he shouldn't bother, but no, it was always good to branch out and make new friends. Elyan knew that better than most, for he had befriended complete strangers on his travels despite not staying put in one place. He was sure Lucan was a nice enough man, or rather he hoped. Elyan smiled warmly when Caitrin spoke about formally introducing them, in spite of her ever growing belly. "Do not trouble yourself, my lady," he began. He did not want to burden her especially since she'll have a child to take care of. "Although I expect your little one may drag you to court with them." He had seen the children of the nobles relish in the glamorous life of the court; especially at feasts. It was an amusing sight to behold.
As Caitrin expressed her slight worry, Elyan creased his eyebrows in sympathy. He heard around court of mothers dying in childbirth or the baby dying and sometimes even both. It was not something he would tell Caitrin of course, but he expected she already knew. It was the ultimate sacrifice and he hated how common it was. No child should have to grow without a mother, Elyan definitely knew all about that. He gave her a reassuring smile as she spoke on. "I guess thinking posistive is the best thing to do, after all like you said childbirth should come easily to you." Less of a risk of death or miscarriage. "I know that no child should have to go through life without a mother." He carried a sad look on his face. "You are obviously strong, I'm sure no harm will come to you."

Elyan nodded in thanks at Sebastian's compliment. Wise...he almost chuckled. If his father could see him now, being called wise, after all the foolish and very unwise things he had done in his youth; it brought a smile to Elyan's face. As the Prince spoke about being used to thinking to the future, Elyan nodded in understanding. He had expected as much. He figured it was probably a ruler's duty to constantly think about the future of their kingdom. However, Elyan had taught himself to live in the present and he had successfully done that his entire life, and after everything he is truly happy. He only wished the same for Sebastian. Elyan listened as he spoke on about his hopes after the alliance. "You have many forward thinking thoughts for one so young," he began. "It is something to be admired in a leader," he smiled warmly. "If anyone is wise here it is you, my lord," he said respectfully. He may be the queen's brother but he hadn't forgotten his manners.
Elyan raised his eyebrows slightly when the Prince spoke of people talking about the king negatively. But he stayed quiet as Sebastian continued. "There are many who wish to destroy the hope Arthur will bring, and also those who were enemies of his father and seek revenge." If it wasn't so ridiculous Elyan would think Camelot's enemies were unlimited. "But as long as the people of Camelot are loyal to him, they will not succeed," Elyan smirked. "You should be commended for seeking the king out rather than trusting those who lie, that is one of the reasons I do not doubt you will gain your people's loyalty," he gave a soft smile.
As they spoke of Guinevère, Elyan couldn't help but grin, especially after the prince's words. "Beauty is not without its thorns, it has been a long and treacherous journey, but they made it in the end." His grin only grew wider. Elyan chuckled softly at Sebastian's words. How embarrassing would that have been? "You are most certainly welcome," he smiled warmly. "Camelot may have a few faults but the people are scarily good and fast at spreading gossip," he chuckled. "Are there any other rumours you'd like me to confirm?" He'd hate Sebastian saying the wrong thing in court, especially since Gwen's banishment and what a sore subject that was.

Elyan outright laughed at Merlin's smug reply. He imagined Merlin must have taken a lot of the King's arrogance and from what he'd heard about the King in his much younger days, he was surprised Merlin had taken it for so long, it seemed they must have become 'friends' pretty quickly. "I'm going to have to find a bigger helmet for him if this carries on." He continued to chuckle. This joking between them almost made Elyan forget about the possession...almost. But he still could not be more grateful for what Merlin was doing, with cheering him up and all. He couldn't imagine a better person for the job. "For some reason, I don't think Arthur would much appreciate that," he said with jest in his tone. "We all already know you've been making his belts bigger too," he said in a mock whisper and carried on chuckling. Elyan listened as Merlin continued speaking. It seemed Merlin was extremely trusting and loyal to the king, more than Elyan had previously thought. "You are a very loyal friend to him, he'd be a fool if he didn't appreciate it," he began. "But Arthur is no fool so I'm sure he does... beneath all the insults, " he chuckled softly.
He missed Gwen, more than he could even begin to express. This was different than when he left, this time there was no option, no choice. He turned to look at Merlin when he suddenly spoke of Arthur's regret. "I just wish he'd see what a mistake he's made." He sighed, he almost agreed with Merlin. He nodded to Merlin's words of their strength, he couldn't agree more. Pausing for a moment, Elyan began to speak hesitantly. "I wish I didn't have to say it but, I'm not sure it was such a mistake," he winced at his own words. "Of course I wish she never had to leave and it hurts my heart that she's gone but," he paused. "But what she did was her own doing. She betrayed Arthur." There was no denying it, as much he wanted to. "Arthur's heart must be broken and if he needs her gone to help it heal then...that is his right, I guess? Even though my heart breaks with him." It was painful for him to admit that even his seemingly perfect sister, was as human as the rest of us. "But of course I still hope every day that Arthur will allow her back." He thought about her every day and he missed her every day.
He laughed at Merlin's poke at Arthur. He was sure Merlin must enjoy complaining about Arthur, and Elyan would be more than happy to listen to the hilarious goings on that seemingly occur on a daily basis. He nodded in agreement at Merlin's next words. "Well I have to say I can hardly wait till I feel like my old self again." He hoped that would be sooner rather than later. "It will certainly be awkward at first though," He still hadn't gone training with the other knights yet, and he was sure all of them knew of what happened to Elyan. "Have any of the knights said...anything?" He hoped Merlin would understand what he meant by that.

Although Elyan had no doubt Camelot and Mercia would probably continue to have a few issues, the knight knew all Arthur wanted was peace. That was seemingly what he had achieved with the peace treaty and Elyan probably wasn't the only person to be thankful for it. It didn't just mean peace, it meant no blood of innocent men had to be shed in pointless wars. Arthur was a compassionate man who thought with his head just as much as his heart and Elyan would forever be grateful for that. He laughed with Caitrin when she mentioned having Mercian blood. "I have no doubt you do, my lady." It was always a good thing to be proud of where you hail from. Despite all the travels Elyan had been on, he never forgot where home was, and he found his way back in the end anyway. Elyan smiled at Caitrin's concern about losing her accent. "With an accent as strong as yours, I'm very certain it can't be lost even if you tried," he chuckled, attempting to reassure her slightly. He grinned at her next words, and laughed at the thought. "Hmm...I'm sure their accents would be somewhat unique," he chuckled. "Your children will take after their mother no doubt with their most wonderful hair." The Lady Caitrin's children will certainly be different, but a good different. "No offence to your husband of course," he quickly added with a chuckle.
Now that he knew who Lucan Aubert was related to, he could maybe have a go at maybe befriending him. He'd never really given it that much thought before, but who knew, maybe they had a lot in common, though Elyan couldn't help but doubt that. The knight knew branching out could be a good idea, maybe he could start with Lucan. “He’s certainly dedicated to his job.” Elyan smiled at that. "I'm glad to hear it." It was always a good thing to know, although Elyan hadn't failed to notice the knight had skill in training and in the battlefield. When one knight was complimented, the whole knighthood was too because they were as one. It was simply how they worked and probably a large reason why the knights of Camelot were a force to be reckoned with. It was like nothing Elyan had ever seen before, but it definitely worked. He continued to smile as Caitrin spoke on. "Well maybe I will, it wouldn't hurt to get to know the man."
He could already imagine a red headed Arthur Aubert as a knight of Camelot. The name definitely sounded right. The thought made him grin. When she admitted to not telling her husband about the name, his eyebrows raised slightly. He thought the names of children was all pregnant women would discuss with their husbands. As she continued, he nodded his head in understanding. "I completely understand." After all Elyan wasn't ignorant to the fact that childbirth was a dangerous thing, for both mother and baby. "But I'm absolutely sure that after the birth both you and your baby will be perfectly healthy," he smiled reassuringly. Caitrin seemed to be a particularly strong woman, he hoped she had the strength to withstand childbirth. "Are you worried?" He wasn't going to say she had no reason to be, because he was sure she knew that she could have reason to worry.

Elyan couldn't even begin to imagine what burden a kingdom could be on one's shoulders, having to please your own people and your allies, which was sometimes an impossibility. But he knew a potentially good ruler when he saw one, and right now one was standing right in front of him. Despite his youth and Elyan only having just met him, he could see genuine care and hope in the prince's eyes. "You need not fret, my lord. You can worry about the future when it comes, for now just do all that you can as a leader," he smiled warmly. "In the end that's really all you can do, and your people will come to recognise it, especially if you solidify an alliance with Camelot." Elyan wasn't ignorant to Camelot's wealth and power. If Sebastian were to ally himself with a kingdom like this, it would certainly help solidify his rule.
Elyan smiled at the prince as he said he thought of him no differently despite his high status as the queen's brother. He was frankly quite relieved too. He grinned when the prince continued to speak of Arthur and the respect his people have for him. "I can safely say that the people not only respect Arthur, but they truly love him with all their hearts." He strongly believed that. "I have no doubt that in time your people will be the same," he added with a warm smile. At his hesitation, the blacksmith creased his eyebrows, but listened on as Sebastian spoke of the queen. "Oh no, quite the contrary actually," he began. "They went through quite a battle to finally have the chance to be together." A battle indeed, Elyan sighed inwardly when he remembered all the hardships they had faced. "Their union is based on love, and love alone," he smiled. "It's actually rather beautiful don't you think?"

Elyan wouldn't call himself an expert at charming women. At least not quite like Gwaine. “Are you sure? I could teach you a thing or two about how to make women practically fall at your feet.” Elyan grinned and rolled his eyes. "I have absolutely no doubt that you could," he chuckled. "It's just me I'm worried about." He wasn't exactly a natural at this type of thing; he'd surely just make a fool out of himself. Quite frankly, he was also kind of afraid of what Gwaine wanted him to do, although he did have an idea. Elyan wasn't really known for being a ladies man, and he had been busy with the forge and training as a knight to really concentrate on that. He had the odd flirt with a few pretty girls but that was about it. He was sure Gwaine was very different.
Today Elyan just wanted a good old drink of ale. He wondered where the whole 'tonight is going to be a night to remember' mood had gone. Maybe the prospect of flirting with the barmaids had scared it away. The thought amused him. When Gwaine proposed gambling and playing cards as an alternative, he nodded to himself. That would be much safer for Elyan although safe, wasn't a word he liked to use. He chuckled at Gwaine's last words. "We'll see about that, my friend. I have quite the luck in gambling, if I may say so myself." He smiled fondly when he remembered the times when he gambled with random strangers on his travels. He'd almost gotten beaten up once. He had to thank everything holy that he had fast legs, because the man he had upset had been inhumanly huge. He dreaded to think what a beating from him would've been like.
As Gwaine opened the door of the tavern, Elyan couldn't help but grin like a child. He instantly felt the warmth, so much that a shiver went down his back at the drastic temperature change. Much like when he had stepped out of the castle, except this was a good kind of shiver. He could hear the bursting of laughter and chatter all around the tavern. It was certainly noisy in here, but then what did he expect at a time like this, a time where everybody flocked to the tavern for a good old drink after a day's work. He could smell the strong familiar stench of alcohol; the same alcohol that he would soon swallow. “After you handsome.” He continued to grin at Gwaine's jest and couldn't help but roll his eyes. "Don't mind if I do." He walked in front of Gwaine and stepped into the tavern, waiting for Gwaine to walk in. He began looking around searching for a decent space to sit. Finally.

"It's just...how I feel really." Elyan watched him shrug with an incredulous look on his face. He listened on as Merlin continued to speak and even chuckled slightly when he mentioned Arthur's big ego. "I think the whole of Camelot will agree that his ego does not need any more inflation," he jested. It probably hadn't slipped anyone's attention that Arthur could be a bit arrogant sometimes, but he most likely just couldn't help it. He was royalty after all. Although, Elyan knew he was becoming more and more humble as his responsibilities grew. Plus, his friends like Merlin here, were keeping him grounded. "But I also think they are all proud of him, of everything he has achieved and everything he will." He smiled. Elyan's faith in Arthur had not wavered, despite Arthur's choice to banish his sister. It was better than alternative, and Elyan didn't blame Arthur.
As they continued to speak of his sister, Elyan couldn't help but feel a sting in his heart because she was gone. She had always been a constant in his life, the person he would turn to when he would get into trouble. While he never blamed Arthur, it still hurt. He creased his eyebrows after Merlin spoke. "I'm sure you did all you could, and I am very grateful and Gwen surely is too." He tried to smile warmly at Merlin, but it faded as he continued. "It had nothing to do with magic for once. It was between Arthur and Gwen, and there was nothing anyone could have done." In contrast to his words, Elyan still felt guilty that he hadn't gone against her insistence that he stay in Camelot and gone with her anyway...to keep her safe. But, he did not want Merlin to carry any of that guilt, for he did not deserve to feel that way. "I just hope she's alright," Elyan looked at Merlin beside him and sighed. "I'm sure she is. Gwen is strong, she'll be fine," he said to reassure both of them.
He smiled at Merlin and couldn't help but shake his head, when he mentioned it 'not being a great time for him.' Merlin was definitely excellent at phrasing words. "It certainly hasn't...been a great time, but I think things will be looking up soon." At Merlin's awkward thanks, Elyan felt himself grin. It turned into a quite smile as Merlin continued. "Well, I'm happy that you actually took the time to sit with me and listen to my insanity," he chuckled. "You're very patient...sometimes," he grinned.

Elyan listened intently as Merlin spoke of Arthur with such high words. It seemed despite the banter and insults that were thrown back and forth between those two; he was extremely loyal to Arthur. They reminded him of brothers. "It's his destiny." Elyan smiled at Merlin while raising his eyebrows in quiet surprise. "Those are very wise words for someone so young." Merlin talked...a lot, most of the time. But sometimes he'd really say something way beyond his years. Merlin was always full of surprises like that. Elyan knew there was a lot more to the boy than meets the eye, but he wasn't going to pry. Everyone had secrets, even Elyan, and everyone deserved that privacy.
Elyan smiled slightly when Merlin tried to see the lighter side in his attempt on Arthur's life. He was glad Merlin was making an effort, because it was surprisingly working. He always wondered what Gwen would say, because she always knew how to say the right thing. It was one of the many reasons Elyan loved his sister, despite her very few flaws. Nobody was perfect, not even his little sister. But he would see Gwen again, he was certain of that. He furrowed his eyebrows at Merlin's words. "Why say that? I know for a fact that Gwen adores you. You're practically her best friend." He spoke in the present tense because she wasn't gone, not really and she was still the same person even with her mistakes. Merlin couldn't have done anything to prevent her banishment; he had no reason to feel any guilt over what happened.
Merlin's words caused Elyan to genuinely smile. "I cannot thank you enough for what you're doing for me." He knew he would repay him sometime in the future; it would be his goal and he wouldn't forget this. "I can't tell you how reassuring it is to know that I still at least have someone to talk to." He was glad he didn't have to go through this alone. That was no way to do anything. "You're a true friend Merlin," he said with conviction in his tone. He really meant it.

Elyan stared at the man who was about his height and wondered what in god's name could have made him like this. Maybe it was a traumatic incident in his childhood, although Elyan wasn't very experienced in the matters of the mind. He'd never given that type of thing much thought in the past. But looking at the man in front of him who had probably memorised each and every rule that a knight should live by, and there were a lot of rules, he couldn't help but think what might have made him care so much about these things. Maybe it was his father, which always seemed to be the case. Pressure from your father to be the best that you can be, just so you never have to see that dreaded look of disappointment in their eyes. Elyan knew, for he had seen it many times, but he guessed after so many times of getting the look it didn't affect him so much. Maybe it affected this man much more.
Elyan decided maybe he should cut the knight some slack, he expected that since Elyan had almost taken an immediate dislike towards the knight he may not have many friends. He shouldn't judge the knight so quickly, or that would make him a hypocrite. All he asked was for people to overlook his less than noble birth and see the heart of him. Maybe he should overlook this knight's obsession with rules and attempt to befriend him. Sir Iwan, had after all taken the time to show Elyan around the kinght hood and everything. Although the way he would look at Elyan sometimes, and his irritatingly condescending tone was making that extremely difficult. Despite not being educated in the same way this knight probably had been, Elyan wasn't an idiot.
As Sir Iwan answered his question, he nodded. Elyan wasn't perfect, he knew he was prone to getting into trouble quite a lot, although it was never usually his fault. So, somewhere along the lines he might break a rule or two. He'd merely thought he should know the severity and consequences should he 'accidently' do something wrong. He guessed he should hope Arthur would be in a good mood when it inevitably happened, although Elyan was very rarely lucky like that. "Why? Have you already done something?" Elyan's eyebrows creased in confusion. Did the knight really think he'd already broken a rule? He'd only really just got here, not even he could work that quickly. "No, no, nothing. I just thought I should know, for when I eventually do," because he knew it was bound to happen sometime. "We all break one of these rules once or twice, eh?" He said grinning. He was just trying to lighten the mood and joke with Iwan. He hoped he might have succeded.

Elyan continued to grin like a child as Arthur spoke of his sister with wonderful words about her strong love for her people and their inevitable love for her. "You're definitely right," he completely agreed with him. "No one can connect to the people quite like her. Her ability to make everyone around her completely love her is rather remarkable." Gwen was just so caring and kind, and she always thought of others before herself without question. Everyone already loved her so much before they knew of her relationship with Arthur. "She's just so...Gwen." It was the perfect way to describe her. They were the perfect qualities to find in a queen. It's not about growing up as a noble and learning the correct 'etiquette' throughout your entire life. Elyan knew that Gwen's upbringing helped make her who she was now, so he wouldn't have her any other way. There were those of course who were still opposed to her being a 'commoner' but they were just a minority now. They would never have the power to bring her down, not while he was alive. He had no doubt Arthur would back him up with this.
"I thank you. For your loyalty and support, for I know that it has not always been easy." Elyan thought about all the trials they had been through. "There is no need for thanks, we are brothers so loyalty is a given," he said matter-of-factly. After all the things they had faced, especially with the banishment, they still got here. The banishment had of course been a hard time as it was a result of no enchantment. But he had never resented Arthur for his decision, not for a moment. He was just thankful he hadn't chosen the alternative, although he knew Arthur could never do such a thing to Gwen, no matter what. Elyan would have gone with Gwen had she not insisted he stay in Camelot. He was just so glad with how everything turned out. "All those trials and hard ships, are they not worth it after everything we have achieved now?" Despite how impossible everything seemed before, Elyan knew he'd go through all of it again in a heartbeat just to get to this blissful outcome. Everything was very near perfect now, he was just curious about the purpose Arthur had called him here for. He knew it was not to speak about his sister.

Elyan didn't doubt that Caitrin's child would be beautiful, if their father was also good-looking then where could they go wrong. He chuckled when Caitrin mentioned the men of court chasing her daughter, although he didn't doubt it. "I'm sure they will, seeing as she will most definitely be a striking beauty." She'll be fighting them off. "No too different from her mother," he added. The lady Caitrin was most definitely charming inside and out, so her child would most probably inherit those genes and he had an inkling that Caitrin might have fought a few men off back before she got married. It was an amusing thought while he looked at her now, all swollen and pregnant. It was almost difficult to imagine. The conversation made him think about what his child would look like, if he ever had one that is. Would it look like him? He snapped himself out of his thoughts. What was he doing? The pregnant atmosphere, which is a phrase he would definitely never use again, was getting to him. “I will adore them just as much, if not more.” He smiled warmly. "Of course, a mother’s love is unconditional after all," he said with a sad smile. It had made him think of his mother and how her time was cut short; god rest her soul.
As she explained that she had come before the treaty was signed, Elyan finally understood. So that's probably the reason why anybody could dislike her. He obviously knew that there had been tension per se between Camelot and Mercia, but since the peace treaty there have been less and less problems between them. When she mentioned how people were more accepting of her kingdom, he nodded in agreement. "Careful or you'll become one of us." He said in what he thought was quite a scary voice complete with scary arms and everything. Although he sort of ruined by laughing a bit afterwards. "You'd better hold on to that strong accent of yours or else it'll just be your hair fighting for your kingdom," he jested and continued to chuckle.
Griff Aubert. No he hadn't heard the name; it didn't really ring a bell. He might have heard Griff mentioned here or there, but he couldn't really be sure, although he recognised the surname. She mentioned Lucan and he nodded. "Yes, Lucan, it's customary to know all of the knights since whenever I'm in battle I trust them with my life," he began. "Although we're not very close and I haven't had the opportunity to properly talk with him." He'd never had a real conversation with the knight before, but he'd seen him in training and on patrol sometimes. He smiled when she called the name Olivia pretty; it was exactly what he'd thought. But maybe it wouldn't quite suit the red-headed girl he'd already envisioned in his mind. He laughed with her when she told to save the name Elyan for his own child, although he thought it would be a bit weird calling your own name. “Between you and me, and promise not to say anything, but if I have a son, I’d want to call him Arthur.” His eyebrows raised slightly in surprise. "I promise," he said first. "Hmm... Arthur is a good strong name, named after a worthy person." It would be after the king, what could be better than that. "Arthur Aubert, I like the sound of that. What does your husband think?"

As he watched Iwan take out a piece of cloth, an actual piece of cloth, to shake Elyan's hand his eyebrows raised and his mouth fell open slightly. This wasn't actually happening. It couldn't be. He was half expecting him to shout 'Only joking.' When he didn't, Elyan could have laughed if it wasn't so ridiculous. It seemed Sir Iwan was one of the knights that weren't very accepting of Elyan's new position. It made making a good impression more of a challenge but no doubt a challenge Elyan would rise up to. At his words Elyan felt himself smile. It was really going to be a challenge, for this man was a piece of work. Just go along with it, he told himself. He'd soon change Sir Iwan's mind.
Elyan listened intently as the knight in front of him spoke. He tried so very hard to overlook the extremely condescending tone being directed at him, although it was very difficult. Instead he tried to listen to the actual words being said. Elyan watched him pace and resisted the urge to wipe his hand over his face. As he spoke of the system he couldn't help but think, by the gods, this man couldn't be real. He seemed to really follow the rules. Elyan wouldn't be surprised if he followed them letter by letter. No wonder it seemed he didn't very much like Elyan. Elyan's entire predicament was one huge broken rule. It must have been hard for this man to overlook it. The thought caused Elyan to smirk a little, despite his intentions to try and be extra nice to the noble. He'd never known a knight to be so thorough in following each and every rule, granted he hadn't known very many knights but still, this was a whole new level of crazy.
"Any questions so far?" He wanted to say yes, is there a chance Elyan could give him a good old fashioned kick up the backside, but decided against it. He wanted to get into this knight's good books, and prove he deserved the knighthood bestowed upon him. It seemed someone somewhere hated him, because he had to be shown the ropes by a man who probably strongly disliked him before he even met him. "Yes just one, how severe are the consequences should any rules of the system be broken?" He emphasised system in the same way Sir Iwan did, just for added effect. It was a valid question though, and something Elyan knew he ought to have in his mind.

"Good luck to you, too, my friend." Elyan nodded in appreciation at Percival with a sombre look on his face, but he attempted a weak smile. He hated the way the whole situation was like they were saying goodbye to each other. He also hated the fact that they sort of were actually saying goodbye. He wasn't naive enough to think they had a large chance of surviving tonight. Not to say he didn't have hope, of course he did. If he didn't, then what was the point? If he didn't, he might as well sit in a corner and wait for death to take him. No, he was going to fight with everything he had, until his last breath, which seemed morbidly possible with the particular foe they were now facing. He just knew that reason was telling him they might not survive tonight and that even if they did, these monsters could possess the power to finally cause Camelot's downfall. The thought sent shivers down his spine.
As they began walking out of the castle gates, Elyan felt his heart quicken its pace. He was afraid; no he was terrified and he knew it. But he would not let the fear consume or affect him. He couldn't afford to, not now when his life and the potential lives of many others were at risk. He held his torch tightly in his hand, ready to swing it in either direction should he need to. They walked through the deserted streets, the sight pained Elyan's heart more than he'd care to admit. They were usually so lively even at night, it was almost unreal to see the place so quiet. But he knew most of the people were either terrified, which they had a right to be, or dead. It made Elyan cringe.
He listened to Percival's words intently. He would almost think his voice was loud because of the deafening silence that had consumed Camelot. "Never," he replied trying to steady his voice. "Never like this." Camelot had faced many enemies, but never one like this. Never one that posed such a threat that it almost stripped all of Camelot's citizens of their hope. It was chilling to think that maybe this kingdom had met its match; that maybe Arthur had met his match. He tried to cast the forbidding thoughts out of his mind before they did any more damage. No, Arthur would find a way, he had faith Arthur would save them all. "What about you?" He began. "Have you ever seen anything like this from where you were from."

Elyan or rather Sir Elyan was still wrapping his head around being a knight. He hadn't been traditionally knighted but what was traditional about a commoner becoming a knight? He hadn't had the chance to really get used to it since Morgana had taken over Camelot, but now that they had taken it back he had the chance to really let it hit him. It was every boy's dream to become a knight, commoner or not, and even though it hadn't necessarily always been Elyan's; it was still a huge honour. The knights of Camelot were known across all of the kingdoms to be the best and most noble army in all the land, Elyan knew this because he'd travelled to most of them. He decided he was going to keep up to that image. He wouldn't be the weak link in the chain.
Which was why he was headed to the training grounds now. One of the knights that were already part of the knighthood before, Sir Iwan his name was, had sent a squire to tell him to come to the training grounds at noon...precisely. The other knight was apparently going to show him all the aspects of being a knight and give him some sort of tour of knighthood. He had made an effort to not be late, and donned chainmail and his new cape with the Pendragon crest on it. He wanted to appear presentable now. Elyan was never usually the type to care about such a thing but he knew he really needed to try to make a good impression today. It hadn't slipped his attention that many of the older, traditional and more experienced knights didn't really approve of Arthur's decision to recruit commoners as knights. Elyan wanted to prove that he was just as competent as any noble, maybe even more so, despite his different upbringing.
Bang on time Elyan arrived at the training grounds. He saw who he expected was Sir Iwan and approached him. "Sir Iwan? I'm Sir Elyan it's a pleasure to meet you," he said with a warm smile while holding out his hand for the other knight to take. He was trying to be particularly nice, and hoped he pulled it off. This man was going to be his brother in arms after all, the would work better as knights if they were at least on good terms.

He still strived for freedom in his life above all else but he had taken more responsibility since coming back to Camelot and being a knight. It seemed it wasn't the end of the world which he would've anticipated years ago if he ever thought he would have to deal with responsibility. He wasn't naive enough to think that love and relationships didn't come with responsibility, but he felt more ready now than before, like he could maybe handle it now. “Well, I hope you find what you’re looking for.” He smiled warmly at her words. "Thank you, so do I." Whatever that was. He would find love when he was ready and not a moment before then. For now, he would enjoy flirting with the many noblewomen that had decided he was the most eligible bachelor in Camelot now.
He grinned at the flush in her cheeks when she admitted her desire for a girl. When she continued on how she'd love the child regardless of its gender, he didn't doubt it. "I'm sure if you were blessed with a girl, she would be the beauty of the land," A red-headed little lady, how wonderful. "A Mercian beauty," he added. “I just can’t wait to meet them.” Her enthusiasm warmed his heart. It was wonderful to hear such happiness in someone's voice. "I'm sure he or she will be a perfect healthy baby." That was the most important thing about the child. "They will absolutely adore their mother when they meet her." He smiled widely.
At her words of the people that hadn't been accepting of her, he creased his eyebrows. "I'm sure if any Mercian could change a Camelotian's mind about your people it would be you." They must have accepted her by now, she was too kind-hearted to ever suspect of ill intentions. Despite the problems Camelot has faced with Mercia in the past, they couldn't blame every Mercian for them. Camelot was a place that accepted people from all sorts of different places and he wouldn't have it any other way. He was proud of Camelot and its people because of it. As she spoke of a quite night, she reminded Elyan of how tired he had been earlier, and how different he felt now. He definitely felt and looked more awake, but unfortunately for Caitrin so did she.
Her words of the countryside were so true; he loved seeing all of that green just stretch out in front of him, like it never ended. It was almost like magic, although he'd never dare to say that aloud. "Yes, it's one of my favourite places to patrol." He enjoyed going there immensely. He grinned at her determination even in her heavily pregnant state, to not have her children named after her husband. He never quite liked that idea either; he thought it was like using a second-hand name. "Why what's your husband's name? It can't be too bad," he jested. “Do you have any suggestions?” He raised his eyebrows slightly and thought for a moment. "Hmm...for a girl I've always quite liked the name Olivia." He'd always thought it was pretty. "And for a boy you could always call him Elyan," he said with mock hope before chuckling and grinning like a boy. "What do you think?"

"It will come in handy for when I want to though". Elyan chuckled. "Then I guess I'd better be extra nice to you in the future so that you never want to," he jested. Merlin could never poison anyone of course. As far as Elyan knew, it just wasn't in his kind nature to ever do such a thing. He enjoyed joking with Merlin, it made him feel a lot better. Like since he could still joke with someone then it wasn't the end of the world, as dramatic as that sounded. Everything was still normal and he could move on. That's why Elyan had been glad to see Merlin, because only he could genuinely joke with and cheer up Elyan at a time like this and get away with it.
"I guess greatness is always inside someone, it just takes the right person or people in Arthur's case to let it out," he said in response to Merlin's words. He was referring to all the people that had most probably helped make Arthur the man he was today. Merlin, of course; Gwen despite everything; himself and the knights. He had no doubt they would continue to help Arthur reach his potential of becoming the greatest king Camelot has ever seen. Arthur is a great man, and a huge part of the reason why Elyan is so loyal to Camelot; why he wouldn't hesitate to lay down his life for her, should she ever require it of him. "I guess he represents hope for the people of Camelot." Hope for the future. "I'm just glad I didn't kill that hope." He didn't know what he'd do if he had killed Arthur while possessed, but he decided there was no point in dwelling on it now. He should just be thankful no harm came to the king and move on.
"Too many to count..." Elyan creased his eyebrows. It seemed even the happy-go-lucky Merlin had regrets and bad experiences. Elyan had always noticed the slight hunch of Merlin's shoulders sometimes, like he had the whole weight of the world on them. Maybe he also felt a lot of guilt and regret. Elyan listened intently as Merlin spoke on. It was probably exactly what he needed to hear and he was thankful Merlin had said it. "You're right," he said sincerely. "Things could have been a lot worse I guess, I mean I could have killed the king!" A lot lot worse. "I know I'm lucky to have come out of this with my sanity but, it's not something you can prepare yourself for or move on quickly afterwards." He had never in his wildest dreams thought of something like this happening. "I wish Gwen was here, for as long as I can remember she always managed to make everything better," he said more to himself than to Merlin. He missed her so much. "But thank you for all that you are doing for me."

Elyan smiled warmly at the king and watched Arthur rise from his seat. He stepped inside and closed the door behind him for more privacy. Who knows why Arthur had decided to call him up here? Elyan certainly didn't. He began walking further into the room. "Please, have a seat," "Alright, thank you." He silently sat down next to Arthur and nodded in thanks as he poured him a goblet of wine. He'd never been the type to overly drink but he'd always quite liked wine, especially this royal wine; it tasted sweeter. He was still curious about the reason for Arthur calling him here but sipped more wine instead of voicing his curiosity. He could still see the paperwork on the desk, but he couldn't quite read what was on it. Probably matters of the kingdom, the kingdom his sister was now helping to rule. He smiled to himself, he'd never get over it.
"I had an important matter to discuss with you," Elyan creased his eyebrows. This only peaked his already growing curiosity. So this wasn't some social call, although Elyan had already doubted that. But he genuinely had no clue what it could be about. Maybe it was something to do with his sister, Arthur's new wife. He was about to inquire on this 'important matter,' before Arthur continued speaking. It was a caring question which made Elyan smile. "I'm not sure it's really hit me yet, that my sister is queen." It was a huge thing to process and he was still doing it, "I'm still trying to wrap my head around it, but I'm so proud of her. She deserves all the happiness in the world and I know she'll be an excellent queen." That, he was genuinely sure of. If anyone could rightfully rule this kingdom beside Arthur, it was his sister.

“Well I hope you have the pleasure of having your own family one day.” Elyan smiled warmly at her. "One day." One day in the far future. "So do I." That was the only thing Elyan could promise to himself right now. But he knew now deep inside him that he wanted to experience the one adventure he hadn't experienced yet. The adventure Caitrin was soon to begin. He hoped maybe one day he would get to. Maybe one day he would fall in love and start a family just like Caitrin had. He guessed only time would tell. Who knows, he could fall in love tomorrow. The thought amused him.
Elyan grinned at the picture that was also forming in his head. The image of a red-headed little boy or girl playing with his niece or nephew. It would definitely be a sight to see. "Wonderful, I'm sure they'd grow to be great friends." If they were boys, they could be knights together, brothers of heart. "Are you hoping for a boy or a girl?" It was a simple question, but he honestly didn't really know what her answer would be. With any other woman, he'd expect the answer to be daughter with the ridiculous reason that they would be easier to raise, but Caitrin didn't seem like the type to care about that kind of stuff.
"I'm sure a Mercian touch would be very welcome." There could never be enough different people in Camelot. A 'Mercian touch' would be a wonderful addition. It brought wonderful variety to the court of Camelot that surely nobody would refuse. “I hope you don’t expect me to pursue anyone.” Elyan chuckled. "That's alright, I'm sure I'll be able to manage." In her current state he doubted she could walk very fast let alone run after an adversary. "I don't really expect any attacks tonight, although we've been trained to expect the unexpected and always be on guard," Elyan said, referring to all the knights of Camelot as a whole. That's what they had to be; they had to fight as one, defend as one and protect as one. That's what made them so different from any other knights.
At her jest, Elyan smiled. "I think I missed Camelot too though, and my sister of course. And after something like that happening, it was my duty to protect her and what better way to do that than staying in one place for her." He shrugged his shoulders. As she spoke of Camelot, Elyan could do nothing but grin. "She is a beautiful place, and despite everything, I love her with all my heart." If there was ever a place Elyan could be loyal to, a place he could stay, it was surely Camelot. They turned another corner and Elyan nodded slightly at the guard stationed there, Sir Richard, as they walked on. He looked over at Caitrin and seeing the bump he quietly asked, "Do you have any names planned for the little one, because I doubt he or she likes being called little one," he jested.

Elyan smiled gratefully when Merlin offered to make him a remedy. "I'm sure your just as adept as Gaius at this sort of thing. I trust you won't poison me at least." Elyan jested. He knew Merlin had a lot of experience in medical science. He must have learnt a thing or two while living next to the court physician. "If you could bring that to me this evening that would be great." The sooner the better. "I've just been nursing a terrible headache since the whole ordeal; it would be nice to get a little relief in that at least." Maybe then his mind would clear up a bit.
Elyan laughed as Merlin joked about wanting to kill Arthur. It seemed Elyan came dangerously close. "Thank goodness for those qualities then, because I'm sure you would've beaten Arthur one handed otherwise," Elyan joked. As odd as Merlin and Arthur's friendship was, it seemed to work. Underneath all the teasing, they cared about each other; they were brothers at heart. "He's a good man underneath all that arrogance, although I think he has changed for the better in these past few years." From what he had heard from his sister, Arthur had become considerably more kind-hearted. Elyan had no doubt Gwen might've had something to do with that. The thought almost made him smile.
"I'm not sure if it's a good thing either." He said in reply to Merlin's words. He wasn't even sure if he really wanted to remember the child possessing him. It was just that blank space in his head when he tried to think of it infuriated him. "What is it Elyan?" He was aware his question could be a little...disturbing to say the least. He had just been thinking out loud. "It's just..." he paused. "It's just the image of the tormented boy in pain, dripping and wet and," he took in a breath. "I'm afraid it may be one of those experiences that change you forever. Have you ever had that?" He let out a breath and wiped his hand over his hair. "You're right, I'm sure everything will get better, I just need a little patience." He smiled weakly.
