"CONGRATULATIONS!" Elyan yelled, and Guinevère found herself laughing softly at his reaction. Thought not quite as much as when he hurried over and lifted her up! Pinning her around before letting her small feet find the floor once again! She felt so happy! "So, when did he ask you?" He finally asked, after a moment of just smiling at her! "Last night, I was making a bed in one of the guest chambers, and he came up behind me and blindfolded me."
"He took me here . . . . candles everywhere . . . " It had been romantic and wonderful and perfect! She had felt so happy then but now the feeling was so much grander and larger then happy! Everything they had wanted for so many years would be theirs! She and Arthur could begin a family! "We've not told anyone yet." Merlin knew because he helped Arthur get her home ready, and his Uncle knew out of respect. Elyan was the first person she told.
Because he was her family. "I told Arthur that we might walk up to see him after we supper together." This would be one of her and Elyan's last suppers just them, and she wasn't even sad about it. For not instead of just her and Elyan it could be the three of them. For Elyan and Arthur would be brothers in a truer since, for her marriage would bind them. Besides, there was something she wanted to ask her brother tonight, and she thought she knew the answer but it was time they talked about their parents. For now however, she wanted to just enjoy the moment.

"I'm sorry you had to feel this way", She was sorry too, but not sorry she felt this way, but sorry she had ever gotten her brother in this. While she was beyond proud of him, and so greatful to know he was alive and well, and seeing him with brother who were more then friends did her heart well . . . .
Morgana's hate knew no bounds. He had been hurt in ways she knew she would never understand. "I knew those sword lessons would come in handy," His tease drew a sort soft smile from her lips from it faded. "I fear I was a poor student." She had been disarmed and lost the fight rather quickly. "I'm proud of you, Gwen, truly." Her heart swelled with the emotion that his few words could invoke in her.
"We will stop her Guinevère." Would they? She had escaped again into thin air. How did she always escape like that? It seemed imposable that they could not find her. "Do you know why?" No, she did not. "Why?" She asked hopeful, hoping Elyan knew something she did not. "Because she no longer knows what it means to be loved."
"She doesn't know what it means to be loyal to family or to friends." Everyone in her whole like always said that she was the one who pointed out the light in the darkness, and gave them hope. But it was her brother doing it now for her. "In the end, that will be her downfall," Elyan moved and hugged her, and Guinevère found her own arms around him tightly as she held to him like never before. Tears fell over her cheeks as she held to her brother. She didn't want to leave him! Not ever. She didn't want to leave her home, and she didn't want to leave Arthur. Yet how could he look at her? The words he said to her in the woods still rung in her hears, and she was so afraid that while the last time she left had hurt her that this time would break her. "I love you." She remaindered her brother, since they both did not know what would happen now.

"You'll never lose me," He told her, but after these days Guinevère was all too strongly aware that she could well lose him. She had felt that fear in her heart, and knew that it could happen one day, and she could pray that it never did. "I shall thank you for taking care of me." Smiling she blushed slightly, but knew that nothing could have kept her from his side. "Well, it's what you do . . . " When you love someone. She would always come to his aid.
"At least this time, it wasn't your fault." She teased him, recalling how he had always followed his heart no matter were it lead him. She was only grateful that now he had brother to make sure he got home safely no matter what. Even bickering over a girl--they would not leave him, and worked together to make sure he was safe.
"Can we take a walk?" "Can you?" Did he feel strong enough? Guinevère moved to hoover over him some, as if she feared he might try and fall over. "Let me help you at least!"

Guinevère was blushing slightly at his words, and praise of her. She hoped that he would never come to regret the words he so easily spoke now. She had asked him once, or rather told him, that he wasn't what she expected. He had then asked what she had expected, and thinking back of the same conversation now she knew that he was truly so far from what the rumors made of him.
She never would have believed them had they spoken true rather then made him seem like a brute. "Then I shall have to make sure everything goes perfectly for our journey." While he would make sure they were safe, she could make sure that they appeared like a king and queen should. Clothing, traveling, and the details he might be too busy to notice, or not have thought of yet. "And I shall count the day in excitement at being able to see the kingdom. The last time I travel though it, I fear I was too nervous to take in too much detail. Now I shall enjoy and embrace the journey."

She smiled brightly at his pretend threat, thought she wished they had all the time in the world and she could beg him to pull her back to their warm little escape. "Then I perhaps instead, you should surprise him, and so wake him?" She offered, knowing Thomas would be ecstatic at the idea of finding Arthur there. The relationship between the two had truly come such a long way.
Thomas no longer saw just a hero and king, and Arthur now embraced Thomas fully as his son. She knew that Thomas would never forget his father, and that she and the other would help him honor Lancelot in his own way as he grew up. Yet she also knew that ever child deserved to have that father figure in their lives and she loved that Arthur was strong enough to be that role to Thomas. She would have asked it of no one else. "I can just see his shocked little face now! Go wake him." With another just kiss, she moved away to let him, for it would be more of a surprise.

He was hurting, and she wasn't sure how to help. With Arthur, she was learning more and more that he wore everything he did. He would take longer to forgive himself, punish himself harder, and think more of it then any of the others involved. He had pulled away from her, and that alone told her he wanted to punish himself, and would seek no comfort from her.
She moved down the bed, a bit closer to him before rising to stand and resting her hands on his back. Slowly they encircled his waist, and her forehead rested between his shoulder blades. "It was your mother's Arthur. It matters not that it was her true words or not. For a few moments she was your mother. In your heart you felt it."
"Morgause used that. She gave you want you wanted most, and used it to make you do what she needed . . . . But your love for your father has proved stronger then her hate." Guinevère might find many faults with Uther, but Arthur needed to hear none of them now. "When you think on it, remember that. No words of Merlin could have stayed your hand, had you truly believed it in your heart."
"The Arthur I know is not a murder. No matter what he thinks he could have done in these moments. I have come to know his heart, and it's stronger then that. I think that no one walked into that room, the outcome would have been the same."

Guinevère felt him move them back and she didn't mind. She was enjoying the kiss and they could hold each other. Arthur's lips moved from her's to her cheek and neck, and his hand moved down her body. It was in these moments that her mind seemed to connect what was happening between them. This was not him wanting to be held in silence or with her talking softly. His hand started to lift her dress and her belly tightened at the idea of his hands on her.
Her breathing was coming deeper and slowly becoming quicker as she became all too aware of how things could end up. She had never been with a man before and had thought for a long while now that it would be Arthur. Only ever Arthur. Yet these thoughts had been after they were married. Guinevère felt nervous, but excited as well. She used her tongue to wet her lips and her hands held to his shoulders.
She didn't want to stop him. She wanted to be with him. She only wasn't sure what to do.

He was still demanding that she leave him, but Guinevère knew that she could not. Ever. How could she? Arthur was the most loyal and strongest man she had ever known, and if he was hurting she wanted to help him. Guinevère did not even seem to notice their feet was moving, for she was too lost in the kiss he was giving her.
"I wont." She repeated, as her hands moved to tighten around her, as if to keep him closer to her. When she felt something touch the back of her thighs--that was the moment she realized they had moved to the bed. Yet it was not the first time they had been lying down together. When Morgause had lied to him about his mother, she had held Arthur while he recovered from his fight with his father, then again at the picnic they had reclined back on the pillows and talked for hours. Even kissed a while.
She wanted to hold him close to her now, and help he feel safe enough around her to allow her to ease his burdens. So without a second though, she slid backwards to sit on the bed, and tried not to let the shifting break the kiss, not yet at least.

For a moment she feared he would push her away again, yet instead of telling her could not let her do this, he spoke of not bearing the thought of losing her. The kiss that followed was strong, and Guinevère wasn't sure he had ever kissed her like this before. "I love you." The words filled her with renewed hope in them, for surely if he would admit to this, then they could find a way to be together.
Her fingers moved up into his hair and rested there, letting the kiss linger and deepen. She was so glad and grateful to be in his arms again! It made her even more glad she had locked to the doors so they would be alone. She had thought they would talk and it would take longer to get him to accept her not leaving his life. Now with his kisses she knew that he surely must be! "I wont leave you," She reminded him between kisses, so he could not misunderstand how she was taking his kiss.

Surprisingly Arthur's lips claimed her's and the kiss went from the light one she gave him to the more passionate one that spoke of his need for her comfort. Her arms wrapped around his neck, and she returned the kiss, pressing up on her toes once again to be closer to him. When the kiss broken she gasped in air. "You keep fighting for me . . . and I keep failing you Guinevère." No! He did not fail her!
"Please just leave me," He could beg, and ignore her but she would not leave him to be alone. "I have never met a man I had more faith and trust in Arthur. How you think that you failed anyone, I will never know, for I have watched you give sweat and blood for just the idea of helping someone. You would give up everything to help them, and still think you have not done enough."
"I will not abandon you. You can lock me out, but I will find ways to you. I will not let you do this--whatever is happening--alone. Please! Let me help you. Let someone help you." She placed a few light kisses over his cheek, and eyes. "I love you."

Guinevère felt him take her arm, and lead her down the halls to his chambers. It was a place that she had not been is so long. Turning she locked the door so they could be alone. He had two other doors to his chambers and she would lock them as well. He was asking her to stop, but she knew she could not--would not.
"I wont." She told him and walked over to lock one door then the other, before walking back to him. "Because I love you, and I would rather help you. If you will not let me do it by your side, then I will do it this way. Helping you see that there is still light in your life. Reminding you that I love you. More then anything. More then anyone! Arthur it's you. It will always be you for me. I will not help you forget that, but remind you."
"I asked Morgana to put the flowers I gave her on the table for supper tonight. I asked Merlin to hide in places. If you stop them from helping me, I will find another way. I will not stop fighting for you Arthur." Moving forward she stretched to her toes and kissed him softly, before falling back to her heels. "Ever."

Guinevère walked toward the castle, and even into it without noticing that anyone was following her. She really needed to make sure to start looking behind her, for when someone grabbed her, she almost let out a scream. The only thing that kept her from it was the gasp that she let out instead. THEN she saw Arthur! Breathing out she felt herself relax and the moment of fear ease off. It was Arthur!!
"Why were you talking to Morgana today?" He demanded and she found it odd. Was he upset about the flowers and thought Morgana was in on it? "We were just passing each other and stopped to say a hullo." She told him, looking up at him and then she moved to hug him quickly, not giving him a chance to move out of her reach. "She is a friend, and I was catching up with her as I have not seen her in a while." She had not spoken of her dis-trust for Morgana with anyone. Pulling from the hug she looked back up at him. "I missed you."

She watched him leave and her heart dropped slightly. He hoped she fell for another? Moving she opened the door to watch his fading shadow for as long as she could before she shut the door again. Something was not right, and she could feel it in her heart. Arthur might be willing to put distance between them but she was not going to make him face whatever he was facing alone.
Elyan did come, and her mind was distracted for a while. She knew there would be no more walking home alone, and no more nights that he did not stay here. Perhaps some good had come from this, if Elyan would not work so hard. The next morning she made sure to be at Gaius' before Merlin left for work--too early in the morning, and armed with flowers.
Arthur's breakfast tray came up with fruits, an extra bread roll that he liked, and flowers on the tray. Purple ones. His lunch tray that Merlin took him had Arthur's favorites as well, but this time the flowers were blue. Dinner would be a more formal one with his father, as most of them were int he castle, but even still she had a plan!
His plate that put before him had everything everyone had, but in Arthur's folded linen she put another flower. This one lavender. When he would use his napkin, he would find it. Each one was meant to be a reminder that she thinking of him. That her heart was with him.
She worked a few hours in the laundry, and with Merlin's help she made sure that Arthur's sheets and pillows were washed and stored for a few hours separately, so she could get them smelling like the lavender he would find with his supper tray. The next morning he would find more flowers with his tray, and even one with his armor in the armory. With Merlin's help she was making sure he knew she was thinking of him and close by. As the days went on, she found new places to leave flowers. After a few days she even started sending one flower color a day, and made sure she wore that color in her hair as well.
It took her a week before she could find Morgana in the market. It was Guinevère's day off and she needed Morgana's help. After her recent arrest, she did not trust Morgana, but nor could she do this with Merlin's help alone. Guinevère wore her pink gown, and white flowers in her hair. It was the color of the day she was sending to Arthur. In her arms were flowers of every color.
Guinevère waited until Morgana noticed her, and approached her. "My lady," Guinevère said, and began her conversation. The purpose being, to give Morgana flowers, in hopes that she would put them in her room, or somehow Arthur might see them. Guinevère casually suggested that Morgana could put the on the table for supper f she'd like. Perhaps Arthur would see them there.
After her conversation, she went toward the castle to see if she could steal a few moments of Merlin's time.

"So you will give up on us, without even fighting for the love we have?" She asked, looking up at him. He would do all this without even explaining things to her? Why? Why would be go so far?! Arthur was not a coward! He did not back down without a fight! What had happened? What made him think this was how to protect her? "I will not."
"I spent the first few years of knowing you, hiding behind Morgana whenever you came around. Whenever danger came around." She never had literately ducked behind Morgana, but she had never stepped up and been brave either. "But then I saw you. The real you." Not the arrogant prince and bully, but Arthur. "And I learned to take in your courage and strength. I learned to follow my heart, and fight for what was right and what I wanted . . . . I learned loved. Not the young girl's ideals of love, but the sort that keeps you strong when you weak." Tears filled her tone as she kept speaking. "The sort that keeps you warm when everything is dark and cold . . . "
"You said that I was that for you," Not in exact words, but he'd said it many ways. "So leave if you must. Keep yourself from me, if you feel you need to do so . . . but know that I will be thinking of you. I will love you, and still be waiting on you. You need me now, more then before. You hurting and I cannot not come and try to help you. I will help you, from afar or by your side."
"Because I love you, and it's what you do . . . when you love someone."

"Burden me?" She repeated softly as he continued on about the reason he was holding her back, refusing to even see her, speak to her, and even had gone so far as to cause her to need another job. It was nothing they had not known but she had thought their love was strong then the fear. "No." She told him, a strong mix of hurt, and anger in her tone. He had not even spoken to her! He would not even let her touch him because of his idea in his head!
"I love you, and I know in my heart that you love me too, Arthur." She would not let him claim other wise. "You might see this as a protecting me, but tonight proves that even if you withhold yourself from me, that danger can still find it's way to my door."
"You speak of the times that my life has been in danger but you forget that even before you loved me, things had happened. You saved me more times then the others put me at risk." She looked up into his face, and wished she could hold him. She wanted to give him comfort and help him deal with whatever was happening in his life. "If you have told me you loved another I would have let you go." It would have broken her completely, but she would force herself to accept things. "But this I will not."

"No," She whispered, then spoke louder, "No. If you love someone you cannot stand by and watch them hurting." And he was hurting, for something and him holding back from her. If she had to guess she would say he was holding back from everyone as well. Yet it wasn't something she could know for sure, for he not only withdrew emotionally from her but made sure she physically kept from him.
"You do not have to do this alone, Arthur." She reminded him, "We said we would do everything together. That we would wait for each other, and one day we could be together as man and wife. I could help you. I want to help you! Be there to ease the troubles that is weighing down you heart. You cannot even explain why you do this?"
"Please Arthur," She moved closer again, and this time reached out to put her hand on his arm, "You don't have to anything alone. I love you. Let me help you. Even if it's only for tonight. Only someone to help ease a troubled mind."

Guinevère heard his words, but it broke her heart a little more. He could not make her happy? "What you stopped waiting on me then? You said one day things would be different. Why did you stop?" She took a few steps closer, and tried to keep her eyes on his face but it was hard. "You made me happy. Every moment of every day that I knew I held your heart I was happy." So very, very happy.
"You were ill? I wanted to come to you, help tend you but I could not. Then you push me away. I need to understand why. Please. I cannot let you go." Why was this happening to them? "This is not you. The Arthur I know found joy in little things. You look as if you've not smiled in months. Why are doing this to yourself?" To them both. Had something happened, had this come after she was arrested for 'enchanting him' then she could see why he was pushing her away--she would not have liked it, but she would understand.
This she did not understand. This just broke her heart.

"What I feel is irrelevant," So felt something for her still?!! "I thought I made that much clear to you." Guinevère noticed he did not look at her, just as she had noticed his jaw tense and his back become straighter. He didn't want to do this. This was not Arthur. But why?! WHY?! She wondered again if they had almost gotten caught or if the distance between their stations had come between them or if something else had happened.
"Arthur," She his name softly, begging him to look at her. The tears evident in her tone made her lift her hand to wipe the ones that she had not even known had fallen from her cheeks. "Please," She needed him to explain this. "I gave you my heart. Can you not even tell me why?" Why he pulled from her? Why he did things to keep her from his side. "I still love you. Whatever this is . . . that makes you seem so cold . . . this is not Arthur Pendragon. What happened?" To make him ill, and then turn away from everyone.

Guinevère's hands moved over her dress, while he seemed to stare at her for a moment. It wasn't until he looked away that she breathed in and realized she seemed to have forgotten to breath at all while he looked at her. "I doubt there will be sleep tonight." She knew that she was too on edge. After tonight's . . . . events, she would not sleep well for days. Perhaps she was ask Elyan to sleep at the house instead of at their father's forge.
Elyan was always welcomed here but he was working to rebuild the forge after years of it being unused. He stayed there most nights, and only on his days off did he come here to sleep. With her job loss, Elyan seemed to be trying to take up more to help.
Yet none of this was on her mind for she could only see Arthur. Here, after so long. Why did he push her away like he did? Speak to her like this? He was keeping her from him, and the ones she had thought to be her friends. Why? She knew if she asked he would not tell her, Arthur tried to be like his father, and bare it all alone. Carry the weight alone. Whatever it was on his shoulders, she feared it was breaking him, and for it he had turned away from everyone. Had she done something to cause him to need space? Had they almost been caught again?
Why did he not tell her? "Do you still love me?" The words fell from her lips without warning from her mind, and she hated them. How they sounded from her. "Did something happen between us to make this happen?" She had not been close enough to him to ask before, and she feared this was her last moment.

"Do not thank me." He said in a harsh tone, and she rocked backwards for a moment, surprised at his tone. She wanted to thank him again, just to spite him or reinforce how she felt but something in his face gave her pause. Arthur kept his back toward her as he moved away and tossed her flower away.
Guinevère stood up and edged around the body to change her dress. Drawing the back curtains closed she kept her cloak around her while she removed her dress. She could hear Arthur moving, and even leaving the house. He'd gone? Pausing Guinevère tightened her cloak around her since she wore nothing but her skin and looked out the curtain. Arthur and the assassin were gone. The only trace that they'd been there was the missing vase, and the broken bits.
Turning back to her little space, she used some cold water to wash with before looking at her clothing. She pulled her white night gown on, even as she knew there might be little sleep for her. Then she cleaned up the broken bits of the vase. Guinevère nearly jumped when her door opened with no knock! Yet she saw it was only Arthur who was returning . . . . and she had just put on her nightgown!
