Kenric noticed that the woman seemed rather aloof and suspicious, but he didn't take it personally. Many noblewomen of Camelot were like that. He understood from having been raised as the son of a nobleman himself that such people were often taught from an early age to behave in a certain way. He wasn't sure if it was worse for the men, who were expected to become knights, or the women, who had to behave as perfect ladies at all times.
He had heard of the Lord Seymour, but he didn't know the man personally. So anything he might have heard about him didn't matter to Kenric. He preferred to wait to form his own opinions on people when he met them, rather than listening to idle gossip. The only thing that occurred to him at the moment was that he had heard Lord Seymour was rather more advanced in age than the woman standing before him.
"It's a pleasure to make your acquaintance, Lady Seymour," Kenric said, giving her a slight bow.
His face darkened only slightly when she asked about his father. His relationship with his father had never been a close one. In his family, it was all about duty and honor... but very little love. He was only as good as his recent achievements, in his fathers eyes. So while Kenric still mourned the death of the father he'd never really gotten to know, it was a blessing in a way that he had never lived to see Kenric's awkward early days as a knight of Camelot.
"My father was Sir Elric Dale," he replied, unconsciously reaching up to touch the medal he wore on a ribbon around his neck. "He died protecting King Uther, nearly 10 years ago now."

~Sir Kenric~ I'm looking for some plot ideas for my knight, Sir Kenric. He's a relatively quiet, shy, and awkward young knight who, initially, lacks confidence in his abilities and his worthiness as a knight. He comes from a long line of knights, all of whom have served Camelot with distinction, and Kenric feels he cannot measure up. He is the last of his family and spends very little time at his family estate. I am open to any and all ideas! Feel free to PM me or respond to this thread if you are interested in threading or plotting with Kenric.

Kenric felt his cheeks flush red when she began to laugh. Maybe he was a bit ridiculous, really... a knight who was barely good for anything. Or at least, that was how he felt most of the time. He wasn't a strong rider, not particularly good at jousting or swordfighting, and he was known for tripping a bit too often. Even he would laugh at him, if he saw someone like him. And in fact... there was something sort of infectious about the stable girl's laughter even after she stopped hastily, and Kenric soon found himself laughing along, too.
"It is rather funny, I suppose," he said, smiling sheepishly. "And... well, it's true... most of them aren't perfect, either."
He stopped laughing and sighed, frowning at the other man's comments. He was right to lecture him, of course... he had been careless. He'd been so busy concentrating on what he had to do that he didn't even look where he was going. He did that far too often.
"He's right, really. I could have really injured the horse. If I don't get better at this, they're probably going to strip away my knighthood. I don't even know if they can do that, but they might make an exception in my case."

Kenric was relieved at first, seeing that she seemed uninjured. He was a compassionate man, and truly hated to see anyone--let alone a lovely woman such as the one he now knelt before--in pain. He smiled at her, accepting her gratitude, even as he realized she wasn't actually accepting his own offer of assistance.
At first he wondered if he had somehow offended the woman. He hadn't said anything that should have offended her, but perhaps he had hesitated too much in coming to her aid.
But as he took notice of her elegant attire and the proud lift of her chin, Kenric began to understand. She was a noblewoman, after all. Most likely, what she had actually injured had been her pride. He was a noble, too, after all, and he had seen how proud nobles could be. He was a bit more humble than many, but that was mostly because of his own lack of confidence. But perhaps he could make her feel more comfortable if he spoke more formally, giving her the respect due a woman in her station.
"My name is Sir Kenric, my lady," he replied, bowing slightly. "Might I have the honor of knowing your name as well?"

Sir Kenric had come a long way in a few short years. He no longer felt like he didn't deserve his knighthood, and in fact, he was quite proud of all of his accomplishments. This is not to say he was prideful... but he certainly walked with a great deal more confidence than he once had.
War forced a man to grow up, he had learned. It had helped him to realize that there were far more important matters to worry about than one's own personal struggles and demons. War was about the greater good and protecting the kingdom from those with evil intents.
And now that the king was dead, the kingdom was sure to be under attack once again. He trusted in Arthur as a leader and a king... but that didn't mean he wasn't gearing himself up for new battles.
All these thoughts weighed heavily on his mind as he walked through the court on his way to the stables. He was so lost in his thoughts that he almost didn't see the beautiful noblewoman--that is, until she tripped.
Having once been dubbed "Sir Tripsalot" by his fellow knights--and sadly, the monkier had stuck--Sir Kenric always felt a soft spot whenever he saw someone take a tumble. Quickly, he moved over to the woman, extending his hand to her graciously.
"Are you injured, my lady?" he asked. "Please allow me to help you up."

Kenric laughed in spite of himself. "If that's the case, I really should be an expert by now."
He couldn't quite explain what it was, but as soon as he set foot on the training field, and felt everyone looking at him, he always felt overtaken with nerves. Sometimes it was strong enough to bring him to his knees. It was the weight of all the expectations dragging him down with each step. Unlike some of the knights, Kenric did not believe himself to be privileged because he was a knight. Rather, it was a responsibility to live up to, and he wasn't always sure that he was worthy of it. How could he possibly live up to his father's legacy?
He smiled ruefully at the girl. "I know what you're thinking," he said. "I'm not all arrogant and sure of myself like the other knights. You're wondering how I even got to be a knight. Truth is, I'm not really a very good knight. They... well, some of the other knights... they call me... Sir Tripsalot."

Every time I did this as Morgana, I got the exact same results:
You Marry: Arthur You are a: Dragonlord Hobby: Being extremely clever and funny Children: three Kink: Chains Death: In battle
So I switched browsers and tried it with Kenric and got: You Marry: Gwaine You are a: lazy daisy Hobby: Derping around Children: triplets Kink: Sir Derpsalot (makes sense, given my hobby) Death: Heartbreak

Kenric watched quietly from the bench, feeling utterly useless. While it wasn't unusual for a horse to throw a shoe during training, most knights could have it fixed and be back on the field in no time. Kenric had no idea how long he'd been gone at this point, just trying to drag Arrow to the stables, but he had a feeling he wasn't going to make it back in time to finish the training.
He was still quite young at this point, so his lack of experience could be excused, if not for the fact that the Prince was just about the same age. Worse, Kenric was pretty sure that the Lady Morgana would make a better knight than he did at this point. He'd seen the King's ward knock Prince Arthur flat on his back on many occasions.
When the girl spoke to him again, Kenric looked up at her, and although her question was perfectly reasonable, he imagined could almost see the judgment in her eyes, as though she was wondering how someone as hopeless as himself became a knight.
"There was something in the field, and I didn't see it in time to guide Arrow away from it," he explained. "I think one of the other knights lost a shield. He stepped on it, reared up, and I fell off."
He was still pretty bruised up from the fall, but he wasn't concerned about that. It wasn't unusual for even the best knights to end a battle with cuts and bruises.
"Truth is, I'm not all that good with horses. I fell off one when I was younger, and I never really got over it."

Even the stable hands thought he was a useless knight. Kenric could see it in the woman's eyes. She was clearly wondering how he came to be a knight when he couldn't even handle his horse. And if she had seen him trip, and fall from his horse earlier... well he could only imagine what she would think of him.
It was frustrating for Kenric, because he knew that he could do better than this. Sometimes he would go back to his estate and practice there, away from judgmental eyes. He was getting quite good at the crossbow, and his sword skills were improving greatly. And he rarely ever tripped there. But when everyone else was watching, somehow he just got nervous. It was like he could feel the weight of all the expectations, pressing on his shoulders, and suddenly, he fell apart.
"Thank you. Really," he said, following the girl. He couldn't help but notice that she was quite pretty, even with the dirt and sweat that came from working among the horses. She had a way with animals, and Arrow took to her instantly.
Kenric watched wordlessly as she tied the horse outside the barn, then sank down on a small bench nearby to wait for her to return. Maybe he could get some tips from her later on how to get Arrow to follow him so willingly.

This was the third time this week Kenric had to leave Arthur's daily training drills early. The first time, he had fallen and injured his ankle. Yesterday, he had been cut on his own sword during swordfighting practice. Today, however, wasn't his fault. They were training on horseback, and his horse, Arrow, had thrown a shoe. For anyone else, this would be a common place problem that could be easily fixed and would have him back in training within the hour. Not so for Kenric.
First he had fallen off of his horse when Arrow bucked. He hadn't been badly injured, but he was pretty bruised up, which meant that he was having more trouble than usual controlling his horse. And if he was honest with himself, he would have to admit that he wasn't really very good at controlling Arrow under the best of circumstances.
He had chosen the horse as his primary mount from his stables because he was the strongest, and the most mild-tempered. But the horse didn't take orders all that well, and Kenric wasn't very good at being authoritative enough with the horse. They just didn't have the connection between man and horse that other knights did.
Kenric was limping slightly as he tried to lead the angry horse to the stables. Between the two of them limping, and the horse fighting him with each step, it had taken twice as long to get to the stables as it usually would. It didn't look like Kenric was going to make it back for training today. Which meant he would probably be disciplined. Again.
"Come on, Arrow, won't you just move?" Kenric sighed, giving the horse's reins another tug. " We're almost there now. I'll give you a big juicy apple if you'll just come along. Please?"
The stable was only a few steps away by now, but Arrow had decided that he wasn't going to move another step. Even the promise of an apple didn't seem to entice the beast. With a heavy sigh, Kenric looked toward the stable. There were a few too many people milling about (and staring at the inept knight and his useless horse) for Kenric to leave Arrow there and go into the stables alone. He was about to ask a small boy who was passing by to fetch someone from the stables to help him out, when he saw someone walk out.
"You there!" he called. "My horse has thrown a shoe. Can you help?"

| ~ • ~ | Character Basics | ~ • ~ |
.:Name of Character:.Sir Kenric Dale .:Nick Name:. Ken, Kenny, Sir Tripsalot .:Age:. 23 .:Race:. Camelotian .:Status:. Knight
| ~ • ~ | Appearance | ~ • ~ |
.:Physical Appearance:. Sir Kenric is a handsome young man, with curly light brown hair and soft brown eyes. He's tall, but often doesn't carry himself that way, and often walks with his shoulders hunched, as if he's trying to make himself look smaller. He's in good shape, but not overly muscular, and is often seen hiding toward the back of any group of knights, as if to avoid standing out or being noticed. .:Height:.6'1" .:Portrayed by:. Heath Ledger <3
| ~ • ~ | Personality | ~ • ~ |
.:Personality:.Kenric is very shy and somewhat awkward. He often doesn't know how to behave in social situations and tries to hide behind his "official" duties as a knight. But for those who are able to get past his defenses, they will find that he's a warm, good-hearted young man who just wants to do the right thing. He isn't the best knight, but he makes up for his shortcomings with his bravery and sense of honor. He always tries to do what he believes is right. Although he is extremely loyal to Arthur, he will, on occasion, refuse to follow an order if he thinks it is the wrong thing to do. In Uther's time, he was disciplined for this several times. This is part of why he is always trying to avoid attention. The other reason is that he is rather clumsy, particularly during training. He's been known to trip over his own armor and fall on his face. He's better in actual battle situations, because he's focusing on the task and not allowing himself to be nervous. This works to his advantage, because his reputation for being clumsy has caused a lot of people to underestimate him in battle. .:Strengths:. - Strong sense of right and wrong: He'll go out of his way to do what he thinks is right, even if it goes against orders.
- Bravery: He'll take great risks in battle, even if he thinks he can't win.
- Singularity of focus: In battle, he is always able to focus on what's happening and what must be done.
- Crossbow: He has great aim and is sometimes used as a sharpshooter when necessary, especially during hunts.
- Warm and caring: He often helps some of the poor people of Camelot during his off-time.
.:Weaknesses:.
- Clumsy: During practices, he's been known to trip and fall, earning him the name "Sir Tripsalot"
- Swordfighting: It's not his greatest skill. He does well enough in battle situations (he hasn't been killed, after all), but he gets nervous in practice and doesn't do as well as he should.
- Shy and soft-spoken: He's awkward in social situations and often mumbles when spoken to.
- Children: He has a weak spot for children, and will help them whenever he can
- Horses: When possible, he prefers to walk instead of ride. He has never been entirely comfortable on horseback.
- Women: He has no idea how to talk to them.
.:Magic Abilities:. No magical abilities whatsoever .:Special Skills:. Crossbow .:Accents:.light English accent
| ~ • ~ | History | ~ • ~ |
.:Birthplace:. Camelot .:Family:. - Father, Sir Elric Dale(deceased): Was one of Uther's knights until his death several years before Merlin's arrival in Camelot.
- Mother, Lady Elisabeth Dale(deceased): She died when Kenric was very young.
- Grandmother, Lady Marian Dale(deceased): She helped raise young Kenric after the death of his mother. She was the last member of his family to die, having lived a year longer than her son Elric.
.:Occupation:.Knight of Camelot .:Current Location of Residence:. Knight's Quarters .:History:. Sir Kenric knew, before he could even speak, that he would grow up to become a knight of Camelot. His father was a knight, as was his father before him. The family was of noble blood, but they still weren't the wealthiest family in Camelot by any means. They had more than enough to get by, but they weren't living in luxury, either. In Kenric's family it was all about duty and honor, and this was how Kenric was raised. He played with toy swords, and was fitted for his first suit of armor before he turned eight years old.
But Kenric was a shy boy, and didn't always feel entirely comfortable with the role life had handed him. He wasn't incredibly confident in his abilities, and he doubted that he could live up to the family expectations. By the time he started his knight training officially, he was all but convinced that he wasn't good enough. His early training sessions were such a disaster that he was almost ejected from the training program. But because of his family legacy, he was allowed to continue, and eventually improved somewhat. He still had a tendency to trip and fall, but in simulated battle situations, he seemed to gain confidence.
His father never lived to see his only son follow in his footsteps. He died in battle, sacrificing himself to protect the king himself. He was hailed as a hero, and Kenric was presented with a medal in his honor, which he still wears every day. Although some think he considers it a good luck charm, Kenric actually thinks of it as a reminder of all he has to live up to.
Notes: Hi! It's Morgana!
