Elyan was visibly uncomfortable as the child wriggled in his arms, but watching how his sister received his daughter brought a genuine smile to his face. "Why, thank you," Elyan said, dutifully accepting the compliment on the baby's behalf. "It's in her blood." His eyes fell on the baby's face, and he felt his chest warm at the sight of her curious brown eyes staring up at him. "Yes," he said, hoarsely. "Yes, this is my daughter."He looked up at Gwen again. "Tabitha, this is your Aunt Gwen--the Queen of Camelot." There was pride in his voice when he said it. "Harriet's come down with something, so I'm watching after Tabby here today." Suddenly, his face brightened. "Would you like to hold her?"

Elyan relaxed his shoulders when Arthur shut the door. Still, he was tense. He thought of Guinevère, wondered what she might want him to do right then. She would never hurt Arthur, Elyan knew--if only Arthur had known it for himself. Elyan hovered over the chair he'd risen from before he teetered forward, hesitantly. He wanted to get close enough so he wouldn't need to yell across the forge. "That depends," he said, eyeing Arthur warily. "Am I speaking to my king or to Arthur?" He paused and stared down at his boots for a moment before he looked up again. "Because I would tell my king I'm perfectly fine. But I would tell Arthur that I'm hurt, and I miss my sister, and I want to know why she isn't here with me today."

To say he was in an odd position would be a gross understatement. His sister was gone, banished, exiled from the only place she'd ever called home. And here Elyan was, still working for the man who had effectively removed her from his life. He felt as cowardly as he felt loyal. In the back of his head, he had every intention to find his sister once the opportunity presented itself. Lately, Elyan hadn't spent much time with Arthur, either alone or with the other knights. He was still dedicated to Camelot and to his king, but he was having trouble seeing Arthur as a friend. He doubted Arthur had noticed, and, consequently, he thought of nothing but being called to battle or escort another princess or something in line with his duty when he was summoned to speak with the king. He was somewhat surprised to hear Arthur had decided to visit him at his forge. He suddenly felt naked without his chainmail and sword, feared his soot-stained shirt gave off an assumption of intimacy. Alas, there was nothing he could do now. He straightened up and waited for Arthur to enter. When he did, Elyan showed no emotion, negative or otherwise. "Your Majesty," he said, his voice leveled to the point where it sounded forced. "You wish to see me."

Elyan had returned from the war a changed man. He had watched his friends die beside him on battlefields, seen destruction and death in droves. He was exhausted. He didn't know exactly what was different about him, couldn't compare his past and present selves with any real meaning, but he knew that he didn't have as much energy as he once had. He was still an excellent swordsman, and he practiced every day. But he no longer had any interest in reveling and in joy. It was inopportune timing, then, for the birth of his daughter. To be sure, he'd missed her birth, as she had been born while he was away. Still, he did not often find himself in the mood to visit her and her mother. He hadn't yet taken her out into the town, taken her out of her home. It wasn't his disinterest as much as his paralyzing fear. The death of his brother-in-law had taught him he couldn't protect those closest to him. He doted on his sister as he always had, especially because he knew she had to adjust to ruling Camelot without her late husband at her side, but he retracted from anyone else. With the child's mother ill, Elyan was soon forced to take his daughter for the day. He didn't want her out in the open, so he took her to the castle instead, to meet her aunt for the first time. He went straight to his sister's quarters, infant in hand, and knocked on the door. "Gwen," he called out. "I have someone I'd like you to meet."

After what had felt like an eternity but really had lasted only a few months, Elyan had finally settled into his job at the local hospital. He had transferred from a rural hospital five hours away, and though he was glad for the increase in salary and finer scenery, he was still wary about being the new nurse in the hospital. So, he was glad that it was over. The other nurses didn't pester him about where he was going for lunch anymore, and so he could slink out of the hospital without anyone inviting themselves along. He wasn't particularly hungry today, but he thought it was a nice day out and he decided to take a walk. He strolled down sidewalks, windowshopped, and people-watched on an unplanned route about the city. He even offered to take a picture for a group of friends who were struggling to take a selfie. He glanced down at his watch and noticed he had ten minutes to get back to the hospital. "Shit," he muttered under his breath. Elyan found himself breaking about a dozen traffic rules as he ran across roads to get back to work in time. He had nearly made it when his phone slipped out of his pocket, and he instinctively bent down to pick it up--in the middle of the road, no less. He quickly looked up and saw a truck coming toward him. He opened his mouth to yell, or speak, or something, but then he felt the wind knocked out of him by what he realized was a human body moments later. Elyan groaned at the feel of the gravel against his body and sighed--in relief, exhaustion. "What...did you--What'd you do that for?" Arthur Pendragon

Returning to Camelot after several years of self-imposed exile had certainly been an adjustment. Elyan had never been sure about whether he should return and, if he should, then when; and so he was grateful for the sign that had come to him in the form of his sister and the prince. Upon his return, Elyan was glad to find the forge was in good shape, and he was not upset by the idea of blacksmithing for a living the way he had been when he left home.
Elyan was trying to stoke a fire when Arthur arrived. At the sound of Arthur's voice, Elyan stopped what he was doing and spun around on his heel. "Your Majesty," he said, an uncertain yet welcoming smile on his face. "I'd be remiss if I didn't say the progress I've made here is due to your support. Thank you." He tugged the rag from behind his neck and attempted to wipe the soot from his hands, attempting to conform to some sense of respectability in terms of appearance. Suddenly, a thought came to him, and it was out before he could think twice about it. "Have you seen Gwen? I'm thinking of putting her to work." His mischievous grin meant the last remark was said in jest.

| ~ ⢠~ | Character Basics | ~ ⢠~ |
.:Name:. Elyan .:Nick Name:. Sir Elyan .:Status:. Knight .:Age:. 24 (Series 1)
| ~ ⢠~ | Appearance | ~ ⢠~ |
.:Physical Appearance:. Elyan is a tall black man with short black hair. His expression is usually unreadable, which may make it difficult for others to approach him. Still, when he smiles, his full-toothed grin almost always elicits a smile in return. When he's not suited for battle, Elyan can be found wearing the clothing of a commoner: a (possibly holey) shirt and pants. .:Height:. 5ft 9 ¼ .:Portrayed by:. Adetomiwa Edun
| ~ ⢠~ | Personality | ~ ⢠~ |
.:Personality:. Elyan tends to be quite reserved, especially in the presence of strangers. However, he does not hide his gentle and compassionate nature; he is especially warm towards his sister. When in the presence of friends, he is funny and mischievous. Rarely, if ever, does he express his anger by yelling, for he prefers to give the silent treatment to whoever has wronged him. Perhaps his most admirable trait is his selflessness--Elyan would not hesitate to risk his life for someone who deserved it. .:Special Skills:. He is excellent with a sword, and he is a good blacksmith, courtesy of his father. A well-kept secret is his talent for baking.
| ~ ⢠~ | History | ~ ⢠~ |
.:Birthplace:. Camelot .:Family:. Tom (father), Guinevère (sister) .:Occupation:. Knight .:History:. Elyan is the eldest child and only son of Tom the blacksmith. He has a younger sister, Guinevère, who was born before their mother died. As he grew older, Elyan was often at odds with his father, and though he was good at blacksmithing, he didn't want to do it for the rest of his life. This was the ongoing struggle between Elyan and his father that eventually resulted in Elyan leaving home. He did not keep in contact with his family during this time, and when he found out his father died, Elyan still did not return to Camelot.
A kidnapping eventually brought Elyan and his sister back together again, and he returned to Camelot and resumed his work as a blacksmith. Sometime later, Elyan volunteered to help King Arthur rescue his father; he was knighted before they carried out the act. Since then, he has continued to serve honorably and selflessly at the king's side.
