Right, well this definitely was not ideal. Her vision was still slightly blurred from falling off the horse and she was sore all over. What exactly was she going to do? Had she had her sword, there might have been a chance that she could take on one, possibly two if she was able to take them by surprise. It wasn’t a surprise that the element of surprise was entirely the bandits and it wasn’t like they would let her borrow one of their swords. Thoughts raced through her mind as she got to her feet, eyes darting between each of the leering bandits. Who would make the first move? She moved quickly and there was a chance that she would be able to last a few moments against one but once they all joined in, she stood no chance. Blood dripped from her elbow but the adrenaline kept her from actually feeling the pain for the time being.
Despite being surrounded, Jade steeled herself for a fight. She was most likely going to lose but god damn it she was going to go down fighting and hopefully she’d be able to dole out some pain before she was taken down. A million thoughts came to mind but none of them made sense. Calling for help… Nah, no one was around that she knew of and the moment her voice rang out, she figured the men would attack to keep her from being any undue attention to them. Running wasn’t possible since they were all around her and it didn’t seem likely that she would be able to get past one of them. Fighting was her only option but that would only last so long… Yeah, so not going well with ideas.
She wasn’t going to cry, she refused to cry!
Men were so crude, taunting the poor messenger girl with promises of pain and humiliation. It wasn’t surprising since they wanted to intimidate and scare her. They would have loved to see her cry, make her beg for her life but that was not going to happen. “Stay back!” She yelled as they started to move in slowly. Of course they had to draw out the moment and make her swear, making it more dramatic for them and more painful for Jade.
A voice called out, drawing all their attention on the one who had spoken. A savior? Seriously? Maybe someone up there did possibly like her. Being that there was only him, even with a sword, wasn’t exactly the best reassurance for Jade. He could take on one of them, possibly two but what about the others? They all stood there, as though actually considering his thread before the larger of the four seemed to snap out of it. “What are you waiting for? Attack!” His loud order seemed to stir the men into action, two of them surging forward to clash with the casual looking Prince, feeling confidant that two against one was good odds.
With them going after Arthur, the ‘leader’ stayed back to watch the fun while one of his men went after Jade. Odds improved for Jade since it was now just one against one, something she could handle. No, she wasn’t as big as this ugly looking mutt but she was smaller and quick. Meeping, Jade dodged the man’s large beefy fist and reached for his sword but he slapped her hand away. This wasn’t going to be easy…

Had Jade known about an animal’s intuition towards magic and those that used it, perhaps she would have made a connection but her mind wasn’t made for magic or the knowledge of it so she just figured Ruby didn’t like strangers. Ruby glared at the witch, her eyes wide in fear and her immediate reaction was to get away from this dangerous woman. Whether she had a rider on her back or not didn’t exactly bother her that much. It was only Jade’s grip on the horse’s bridle that kept her from bolting from the woods and away from Nimueh. How amusing that Ruby was reacting correctly and yet she was being scolded. How ironic…
If only Jade knew just what this woman actually thought of her, she might have taken a swing at Nim. Of course there was a good chance she wouldn’t even be able to hit Nimueh and once she drew her hand back, she’d find it smaller, green, and covered in warts. Jade wasn’t stupid! Merely ignorant of magical things since they weren’t exactly introduced into her life. She didn’t want to be stopped from her job no matter what good intentions this woman may seem to have. Jade had been raised to respect her elders and she did to some degree but this woman wasn’t her mother. Hell, she didn’t even know Jade so why did she seem to think that she had to mother her? Goodness, her mothering was getting to be more of a migraine than her migraine was… “I’m fine, really..” This was said before the dizziness of course, once that hit she wasn’t sure if she was fine or not.
Once again her attempt to mount the horse and ride away from Nimueh was stopped by the persistent witch in disguise. She really was worried for Jade. Yet again, if only she knew more about magic, perhaps she would have realized that something was wrong but all she figured was that this woman knew what she was talking about. “It was my own fault, besides my head only hurts a little bit.” Jade just barely protested weakly as she was lead to sit down again. “I can rest only a few moments.” She finally conceded, taking a seat on the ground and placing a hand to her bleeding forehead. “Um, never forgive yourself? I hope I do not seem disrespectful ma’am but you don’t even know me.” There was a difference between motherly and smothering, perhaps Nim would realize that. If she tried to hug Jade, the young woman would make a quick escape.
An honor? Well it might be seen as an honor but it wasn’t going to be much of an honor if she was late in delivering it. She didn’t wish to be in trouble with not just one King but two. “I suppose it is but I do not wish to be late.” Plus sitting there in the woods with a woman who had just showed up out of the blue wasn’t exactly on her list of things to do either. Holding tight to Ruby’s reins so the horse didn’t get away, Jade relaxed for the time being. “I hope I am not interrupting…whatever it is that you were doing before you came to my ‘rescue’.” Was it polite to introduce herself now? She was a total stranger but she had been so nice. “I’m Jade of Mercia, you are?”

Brushing her hand over her face where the low branch had struck her, it was easy to say that she had a whopper of a migraine that would last probably until she went back home. Of course it was her own fault but she didn't really want to think about that, mostly because it hurt to think at the moment. So many things had happened between her ride from her home in Mercia and the city of Camelot, most of which she had no interest in thinking about for the time being. She had a good-sized mark on the side of her head and if anyone asked, she was attacked by a whole band of bandits and took them all down with her awesome fighting skills. No one had to know that she lost a round with a low tree branch.
Ruby whinnied and shifted her weight from one side to the other as Jade came to stop just outside of Camelot City. It seemed that Ruby was pushing Jade around, wanting to go into the city and find a stable. She wanted rest and relaxation, not just standing there while her owner thought about stuff too long. Sometimes Jade believed that Ruby was more a stubborn donkey then she was a horse considering how she acted but regardless of the annoyance she felt for the midnight black horse, she loved the large beast. “Alright alright, you’re so pushy today.” Gesturing for the horse to move forward, the young messenger entered the city of Camelot for the first time ever. Usually her job as a messenger kept her local in Mercia and the surrounding towns and such, it was a honor and a stress to be given a message from the King of Mercia himself for the King of Camelot, King Uther.
If anyone could mess this all up, it was Jade…
Not her fault of course, she had a good work ethic and wished to do a good job but her daydreaming and her craving for adventure often caused her to be distracted from her job. Right…now that she was there, what to do now? Head straight for the palace to deliver the message or find an inn and stables to rest her exhausted horse and perhaps even her own exhausted self. She had been riding for a while after all, her head ached and her arse was rather sore as well. Since she was actually there in Camelot now, it meant that she didn’t have far to go to deliver her message so what was a little more time.
It didn’t take Jade long to find an inn for herself and stables for Ruby. Once the money traded hands and Jade took a short nap, the young woman decided to wander around Camelot a bit and see what was going on. It was a new place and despite not much going on so far, there was still a small sense of excitement and adventure in being in a new place. Not exactly the most outgoing sort of young woman, she kept to herself, though she offered a smile at the passing person every so often.
The sound of laughter was heard, a small crowd gathering around something. This caught her attention. Brushing her brown hair back from her face, she decided to go and see just what was going on. A faire perhaps?
Or people mocking someone in the stocks… How lovely.
A dark-haired boy had been placed in the stocks, perhaps about eighteen or nineteen by the looks of it. One thing she noticed though she made no comment on it was the size of his ears. It was kinda cute in a weird sort of way. Choosing to push her way through the crowd that had begun to disperse, Jade cocked her head to the side as she leaned down a bit. “Whatcha in for?” She asked curiously, a warm smile on her face.

Why was her life so boring? Jade couldn't help but wander this as she led Ruby from the stables she had been staying at since their arrival in Camelot. The life of a messenger was hardly one of excitement as pretty much as far from glory and riches as she could get without working in the stables picking up dung from the floors or being a lowly prisoner. Pfft, she'd never be a prisoner cause she's never really done anything interesting that would land her there. It was often that Jade had such low thoughts about herself but that morning she had woken up feeling down and depressed and as far from her dream as possible. Brushing her hair back from her face for the hundreth time, Jade walked past the still sleeping denizens of Camelot that were still in their houses and such, it was just before dawn when she had woken and for some reason she couldn't fall back asleep.
Was she just born a boring person? Did whoever was in charge up there just decide to fill her head with dreams of glory and riches and yet neglect to give her the means to actually make them come true? If that was truly the case then Jade was seriously screwed and trapped in the life of a peasant messenger who would never do anything great with her life. How depressing… Jade wasn’t normally a depressing young woman, she was a woman who believed that you had to work to make things happen and she believed she was doing that but surely a little help from somewhere could make itself known. She believed in fate as much as the next person but really, why would she feel so certain about being a warrior when it didn’t look as though it was going to happen. If it wasn’t mean to be, then why?
Bleh, she was so tired of delving into thoughts that made her head hurt. A nice ride through the woods would surely help her sort things out. No, she wasn’t exactly an exceptional rider and Ruby wasn’t the most well behaved beast of burden but as long as Jade was paying attention and not with her head in the clouds, she should be just fine. The thought of some swordplay came to mind of course, since not many people traveled through the woods on the outskirts of Camelot so early in the morning, she hoped anyway. It would be private and meant she would have no distractions. It was a nice thought of course but it wasn’t possible because she had not brought her sword with her. Not that it could be called much of a sword of course; it was rusty and wouldn’t last much longer if she kept dueling trees like she did.
Brushing her hair back from her face, Jade pulled herself into Ruby’s saddle and rode off into the awaiting woods, taking in the lovely morning air that permeated around her. Camelot wasn’t all that different from Mercia and yet it had a different feel to it. She didn’t know what it was but she liked it. It was because of this that she chose to stick around Camelot for a little while before heading back home. She could play messenger around Camelot and not have too much worries and she had enough money to last her for a little while. Of course she had to pay someone to write a letter to her mother and father telling them of her intent. Of course her mother wouldn’t like it, but Elizabeth had to realize that her daughter was grown up and fully capable of taking care of herself.
Upon entering the woods, Jade ducked and swayed to avoid branches and bushes, having learned her lesson from last time. It felt good, being alone in such a lovely secluded place. Well, that was her initial thought before she felt herself thrown from the horse, a body colliding with her own. Someone had jumped off a small hill when she hadn’t been looking. After first she thought it was another low branch as she landed on the ground but the feel of a body landing on her own for a moment before it rolled off her made her realize what was going on.
Apparently she had stumbled across a small band of bandits…
Oh COME ON! She thought to herself as she sat up, her horse running off deeper into the woods. Her elbow was bleeding and she was dizzy from the fall. When her eyes were able to focus, she noticed she was surrounded by four or five rough looking men, all leering at her with dark intent in their eyes. “I have nothing on me, nothing for you to take.” It didn’t matter it seemed, she could tell by the way they looked at her, this was not good…

The fact that this had happened in the first place was embarrassing enough but as far as Jade knew, no one had actually seen it. After all, she was in the woods and a lot of folks were superstitious about the woods, believing creatures living in the woods. Magic and such, what a load of bull. Jade had been alive for twenty one years and not once had she ever seen anything that even remotely resembled magic, not ever. It had once existed but Uther had driven them all to the brink of extinction and after all that foolishness, magic seemed to fall off the face of the earth. Ugh, too much thinking for the poor girl who had just suffered a blow not only to her head but her pride as well.
It wasn't Jade who heard the sound of footsteps but rather the horse that she had been starting to mount. Ruby's ears pricked up and she snorted, moving forward so that Jade was unable to actually get back on the horse's back. What the.. "Ruby, stop being such a stubborn mule." She grumbled as she tried to grab at the dangling reins to stop the stubborn horse. Perhaps Ruby was able to feel the magic that emanated from the woman as she approached. As Jade's hand clasped around the horse's bridle, Nimueh's voice reached her ears and she turned to see who was around. Where did she come from?
"Um...." What could she say? The fact that this woman, whoever she was, was asking that question meant she must have seen her foolish mistake. Trying to downsize it, Jade offered a half smile and shrugged. "Yes ma'am, I'm alright, no need to worry." She didn't really sound all that convincing but at least she hadn't cried, that was what was most important as far as Jade was concerned. Venturing a hand upwards to her forehead, Jade grumbled as she felt a warm liquid on her head, she had been bleeding and she hadn't even realized it. Must have smacked her head a lot harder than she thought.
"I assure you ma'am that I am alright, just a little accident, it's nothing." A dizzy spell hit her and she had to close her eyes and let it pass. Damnit all...how embarrassing. No more daydreaming while she was working, she had told herself that a dozen times over and yet things like this happened way too often. She was too clumsy for her own good and that wouldn't do at all if she wanted to someday become a knight.
It was nice that this woman actually had shown concern, she probably had some kids of her own from the looks of her. Of course Jade didn't think for even a moment that this woman was not what she appeared but rather a witch that intended to use her message to strike at Uther Pendragon. There was no way she could have thought of such a thing because that involved thinking and she wasn't really that interested in taking part of that particular activity for now. "I thank you for your concern, it was touching but I must take my leave. I must deliver this message to King Uther of Camelot and I've wasted enough time already."
Jerking her hand sharply, she kept Ruby from moving any further and brought her foot up to mount the horse yet again. "I'm sorry that I must leave you now, if I didn't have a job to do I would offer you my horse." See, Jade could be nice at times.

Her polished and sharpened blade swept through the air, singing as it cut through air until it clashed with that of another sword. Her opponent wore a look of surprise on his face as he realized that he had bitten off more than he could chew with this peasant girl, she was a spitfire and he was going to lose. The thrill of battle seemed to sweep through her body, it was exciting and god she couldn't get enough of it, she was winning and she was showing yet another man that she was more than what she seemed. She was a fighter. She was a knight. "I told you." She stated simply, kicking his leg out from underneath him, causing him to fall hard to the ground. Raising her sword high, she was ready to bring it down the tip of her blade, a final strike when suddenly..
BAM!
Apparently daydreaming whilst riding a horse wasn't exactly the most brilliant idea in the world. Cause one moment she was sitting atop her black mare Ruby and then suddenly she was on the ground, a nice sized red mark on the side of her face. Dazed, Jade pushed her cape from over top her head and groaned, rubbing the sore spot on her head as she tried to figure out just what had happened. Had she been attacked? Not long after she had landed on the ground, she looked up to see her horse stopping not too far up ahead, apparently noticing that Jade was no longer on her back. "What in the..." Ah, yes she had been attacked...by a low tree branch.
"Damnable tree!" She grumbled and kicked the base of the tree. Not too hard because while she was angry, she wasn't completely stupid. She didn't need to add a hurt foot to her list of injuries caused by her stupidity.
The sound of knickering caused Jade to look up, glaring at her horse as she walked up to her. "Enough laughter out of you Ruby." She demanded as she put her foot into the stirrup. The horse shook her head, as though trying to get the laughs out now and started on it's journey yet again. Ah yes, the life of a messenger, what a life it was. It was grand...pfft yeah right, it was boring as ever but at least it beat being a bloody barmaid with men groping her ass every two seconds. Seriously! At least the smell of rain filled the air, the ground was soft and somewhat muddy in different areas but it was a nice day just the same. The sun shone brightly and aside from the pain she was feeling in her head, it was still a good day.
She was on her way to Camelot to deliver a message to the King from Mercia, it was nice, a little vacation from home. Another knicker was head and Jade frowned. "Next time warn me when there's a low branch!"

| ~ • ~ | Character Basics | ~ • ~ |
.:Name of Character:. Jade Santeras .:Nick Name:. Stick, Jay .:Age:. 23 .:Status:. Peasant
| ~ • ~ | Appearance | ~ • ~ |
.:Physical Appearance:. Being a commoner, Jade's hair is normally a complete rat's nest, tangled and greasy from a lack of bathing and a lack of real care. Not that Jade much cares given that her appearance is not her biggest worry. On the rare occasion that she has bathed and has actually done something with her hair, like brushing it, Jade's hair is dark chestnut that ends just below her shoulder blades, curling slightly at the tips. When working, she will normally tie it back with a tether to keep it out of her eyes or in a braid for the same reason. Every so often, for something important like a wedding or the like, Jade has been known to pull her hair up halfway and weave little white flowers in her hair but that's just for special occasions.
Jade's piercing eyes are the color of deep emerald and seem to speak volumes when she herself has nothing to say. Nothing speaks louder for Jade than her bold eyes that seem to betray any emotion she is feeling at the time. They can easily betray when she is daydreaming due to the distant look in her eyes, a sparkle in her eyes as she saves the Kingdom in her head. When she is a fight, her emeraldine orbs reflect the fire that burns inside her and the thrill of the fight alone with any pain she suffers no matter how she tries to hide it. When she is in a jovial mood, no eyes could be brighter than hers, laughter seems to exude from her eyes even more so than when she laughs aloud. Worse yet, she has the annoying ability to complain with her eyes, one would just look at her and would know that she was complaining despite not a word passing from her lips.
Jade stands at an 5'8 feet and barely looks capable of being able to kill a fly much less give someone a black eye but she is capable of both with some pleasure taken in it as well. Baring a figure much like her mother, Jade is hardly seen as a robust woman, she lacks size in her breasts and hips but she's not seen as unhealthy either. Her mother is constantly at her to put on more weight but given the fighting Jade get herself into and the training she does when she's alone, she has gained an athletic figure. More tone and defined muscles in her arms and legs though it's not too noticeable if one isn't really looking closely. All in all, she looks quite petite and innocent.
Being the little brute that she happens to be, Jade has gained a lot of scars and bruises in all her years of life. Her left cheekbone had been broken by a fist that she hadn't seen coming and she has scars all over from running around the woods and such. most minuscule and hardly worth mentioning, such as scratches from tree branches and scars on her hands from Jagger bushes and such. Of course there are more noticeable ones, such as a thin scar running down from the top of her calf to her ankle. It had been her own stupid fault, she had gotten clumsy with her sword and she had given herself a nice sized scar, of course she lied and said it was from some bastard who had attacked her and she had fended him off. What no one else knew couldn't hurt her.
Given Jade's status, it's easy to see that she has no silk gowns or anything like that and she's fine with that. She has two dresses for different occasions, one being work of course which is a rather simple dress. A simple brown dress with an apron and simple shoes that didn't make her feet hurt, that was her work dress. The next dress was nicer but still quite simplistic, a black dress with a white ribbon around the midsection, that was the dress she wears to tourneys or a festival. She must be careful since she knows the pentalty for dressing above one's station.
Jade has a rather pleasant looking face, pale pink lips that are often pulled back into a smile or a scowl depending on her mood. She has pretty bone structure in her cheeks though it's obvious that at one point, her cheek had been broken and hadn't healed quite right. .:Height:. 5'8 .:Portrayed by:. Drew Barrymore
| ~ • ~ | Personality | ~ • ~ |
.:Personality:. Jade isn't exactly the easiest person for others to get to know. She has quite a reputation for being outspoken and abrupt with just about everyone she knows and even those she does not know. She speaks her mind and shares her opinions on just about everything, even things that do not concern her and it doesn't matter to her in the least whether or not someone is actually interested in hearing what it is she has to say. For some reason Jade believes that everyone should hear what she has to say and she'll make damn sure she's heard. She is quick to judge others, normally based on first impressions or rumors that tend to swirl around and usually it's hard to change her mind when she makes it up about someone. Some call Jade callous and at times heartless but Jade simply believes that she is being brutally honest, whether anyone wants to hear it or not.
Calling Jade stubborn is quite the understatement, once she gets an idea into her head, wild horses could hardly drag it out of her. If she decided to believe that the sky was purple and pigs flew than no one would be able to convince her otherwise, it was just how she was. She takes after her father, she knows that and is proud of it as well, he's the only person who's just as stubborn as she is and she adores him for it of course. Another thing she inherited from her father is a fiery temper, though she's more explosive than he ever was and probably ever will be. Hell hath no fury like a Jade scorned and she is none too likely to neither forgive nor forget. A combination of a nasty temper and a good memory make for long grudges that can last for years if she wants it to and she will rarely, if ever, apologize first if she was in the wrong. Admitting she is wrong is just not possible for her and she will do what she can to place blame on anyone but herself. Taking blame means she is wrong in some sort of way and she just cannot allow that to fall on her. No she doesn't think she is perfect, she knows her flaws and accepts them but she just finds it hard for others to know that she is wrong in anyway.
As apposed to Jade's quick and hot temper that flares quickly, Jade finds it hard to express feelings of sadness and disappointment. Should someone hurt her feelings, Jade will never allow them to know it. Instead she will play it off that she felt nothing until that person is no longer around and she is alone, only then will she let tears fall. Crying is a sign of weakness as far as she's concerned and if she ever wants to become a Knight, she has to prove that she's strong and doesn't let emotions muddle her thinking. The dream of becoming a Knight may be foolish to most since Jade's not even sure she could ever be one, since she isn't nobility or a man but regardless, she still had hope. Because of that mindset, she comes across as emotionally numb and cold but she is neither, she feels each emotion quite strongly, she just has the fortitude to keep her emotions in check.
Because of her dream of Knighthood, Jade often sneaks off to practice with an old sword that her father owned. It had been given to her as a gift, though neither her father nor she told her mother about it. Despite not having anyone to really spar with, Jade excels in her practice with the rusty blade. Each time she would swing it, she would imagine herself cutting down someone who had foolishly gotten in her way, rescuing damsels in distress and being the heroine of the day. Not that Jade even knew what a damsel even was, a sort of cheese maybe?
Glory and riches.. Two things that Jade had always been told that she wouldn't be capable of achieving and yet that didn't stop her from wanting to do just that. Not just because it was what a lot of peasants wanted, a better life but also because Jade just wanted to prove that she can do it. That is the sort of person Jade is, tell her she can't do something and she will go through hell twice and back to prove that she damn well can and once she's proven it, she will be all too happy to rub it in people's faces. While Jade has a rather sizable ego, she isn't normally egotistical nor delusional about what she is capable of. She knows her talents and even more so than that, she knows her limits but it doesn't stop her from pushing those limits. Jade happens to believe that just because one is born a peasant doesn't mean they have to die one, there was always chances for advancement.
Family is very important to Jade. Fiercely protective of her family and the name Santeras, Jade feels that being the eldest means she has to do everything she can to keep her family safe and secure. Her mother is the world to her and Jade will do just about anything for her mother, except for the one thing her mother wants more than anything, for Jade to settle down with a husband and start a family of her own. Elizabeth was of the mind that to be truly happy in life, one had to find a sturdy husband and than give him children and carry on his name and that was all well and good for Elizabeth but Jade disagreed on that completely. It was really the only thing that she and her mother argued about. Jade's father relates well to his only daughter because of the spirit she has, something he had growing up as well.
When it comes to the subject of love, Jade balks from the very idea of it all, finding the very notion to be very off-putting. Of course her parents are very much in love and that's all well and good for them but Jade feels that marriage is a cage and love is a lock and she cannot be caged. She's too wild to want to be tied down to a man of any kind, so she keeps men at a distance as much as possible. She has no problem with girls her own age but she doesn't have many friends due to the fact that she isn't like other girls and so she finds it hard to relate to them. She's more like a boy and so she seeks out boys as friends though she makes it clear that she will not have anything to do with them past friendship. The thought of being a man's conquest in the bedchamber frightens Jade, she refuses to allow a man to take her virginity as a trophy and therefore guards it carefully. Not a sucker for pretty words and flirtations, Jade would rather spar with a boy than allow him to kiss her. Sure, Jade has been kissed before but being chaste, she never allows it to go further than that.
Friendship doesn't come easily to Jade, she has one or two close friends that she feels she can rely on and through them she has shown that she is very reliable and very good at keeping secrets. No matter the secret, Jade would never betray someone she regarded as a friend, she'd rather take the secret to the grave than give it up. She feels betrayal is one of the worst things someone can do and she will not dirty herself with such an act.
Loyalty is something that Jade feels is to be earned, not born to one of high society. It is because of this belief that Jade feels that her allegiance is not owed to any reigning monarch simply because they wore a crown upon their privileged heads. Of course they are higher up than she was and probably higher up than she ever will be and she acknowledges that but she will not offer her loyalty to someone she feels doesn't deserve it. However, this being said, once her loyalty is given, Jade will be loyal to the end and will never betray those that have earned it. It is hard to say just what will gain Jade's trust and loyalty, different things will gain and lose points with her and she isn't afraid to say as much either.
A strength that Jade holds quite dear is her ability to observe people and figure out their strengths and weaknesses. It is after this sort of observation that Jade is able to know where to hit and how hard to hit in terms of words and actions as well. She knows that it's important for a warrior to study their opponents movement and technique on the field and it's the same with people and how they act off the battlefield. Not that Jade has ever been on the battlefield of course nor did she have any real training, but she knows enough to know that and she puts it to her fighting and also how she deals with people on a regular basis. Knowing a person's weakness makes her words as sharp as the sword she wields in her daydreams as she works, she can hit below the belt in more ways than one and will do so if it gets a point across.
Jade can be very loving despite her cold disposition she has at times but for the most part she prefers to be distant in order to protect herself from others trying to take advantage of her. Outside her family, Jade doesn't trust anyone. It's hard for her to explain, since she really hasn't been given a reason to distrust people as she does but she does just the same. Another thing Jade can't really explain is the phobia she seems to have in regards to large crowds of people. For as long as Jade can remember, she has always felt extremely uncomfortable in large crowds of people and as she grew older, she could see it getting steadily worse. There are moments when she has felt as though she cannot breathe and has broken down into tears due to the stress of being in a crowd, which is a reason why she avoids them as much as possible. Another fear she has, one that she shares with her mother, is a deep fear of snakes. It doesn't matter what sort of snake it happens to be, Jade is terrified of them and will run screaming if she even hears the hiss of a snake much less seeing one.
Given Jade's status as a commoner, she was never given an education therefore she is completely illiterate. This bothers Jade to some small degree for she feels it would be nice to know her letters, at least basic letters but given that a lot of other people around her shared the same situation, it wasn't really that bad for her. She has a quick mind, picking up things quickly but no real thirst for knowledge. She's ignorant and she's alright with it, though she was sure that Knights had to know how to read. Every so often, Jade wonders if perhaps she should seek someone out, perhaps someone that would care enough to help her since she was sure that Knight's have to learn to read as well.
Having been working since she was young, Jade has a very good work ethic, knowing that if one wished to achieve anything in their life, they had to work for it. Of course, Jade still has her flaws in her approach to work. For the most, she does what she's told but she tends to let daydreaming take over a lot and distract her from just about everything else. Jade tends to procrastinate as well, leaving things till the last minute, a curse but she can't help it, it's just the way she's made. Not only that but she is rather clumsy as well, tripping over her feet and chairs way too often. She has broken more dishes than she can count due to her clumsiness and yet oddly enough, she displays no such clumsiness when she has a sword in hand. .:Strengths:.

She was born to Elizabeth and James Santeras on a star-filled night in the Kingdom of Mercia. As with any birth, there was a certain amount of risk to both mother and child the longer it took the infant to be born and even before Jade had taken her first few breaths outside the womb, she had proven how stubborn she was. Keeping her poor mother in labor for twelve hours, the wails of the dark haired infant girl had been the most beautiful music Elizabeth could possibly hear. Never had Elizabeth believed that she would be holding a child in her tired arms, not because she had believed that she would lose the the little infant during the course of her pregnancy or even during childbirth but rather because she believed it wasn't possible for her to have a child. The little dark haired child grew up quickly, too quickly as far as her mother was concerned and was quite the outspoken child. She had a wild streak to her that could hardly be tamed and it drove both her mother and her father crazy at times. Jade's wild temperaments were enough to make anyone want to pull their hair out, disappearing when she was supposed to be doing chores and causing scraps with other children simply because it seemed to be in her blood to do so. Not only was she prone to starting fights but Jade was known for playing pranks on people as well, never were they dangerous or cruel but if someone found a bucket of mud on the top of their door, they knew were to look. When Kiros was born, Jade wasn't quite sure what to make of him. She hadn't been allowed in the same room as her mother while she was giving birth, Elizabeth didn't feel it was a sight meant for a child of Jade's age. So Jade paced outside the room, thoroughly panicked as her mother's screams rang through the small room above the Tavern. She didn't like not being there to hold her mother's hand but she respected her mother's wishes...that and they locked the damn door. When they finally opened the door, Jade flew into the room, nearly pushing over the midwife in the process, not stopping until she reached the palette that her mother was rested on, sweat-drenched and exhausted but very much alive. Cradled in her arms, wrapped in a little brown blanket was her new little brother, such a small thing he was too. Hardly the size of a loaf of bread, he had dark hair like she did and he had their mother's eyes, like Jade did. It was then that Jade felt a need to protect the little loaf of bread, also known as her little brother Kiros. She had no problem being asked to help take care of him, especially since her mother was very weak after giving birth for a second time. She loved her little brother and God forbid someone should make the infant cry, they would feel his elder sister's wrath ten fold. No one made Kiros cry...cept her! Than again, there were times, as with any child of seven years old, that she felt that she wasn't getting enough attention from her beloved mother and it irked her. Because of that, she would act up just to get attention, regardless of whether it was good attention or bad attention, it didn't matter so long as eyes were on her and not Kiros. As the years passed, Jade continued to remain as she had been as a young child, stubborn and wild, temperamental and protective of her brother who was growing just like she was. She helped teach her brother to walk and talk. Nothing really all that interesting but it was a life that she enjoyed so why complain? All in all, Jade had a rather nice life, especially for that of a commoner. When Jade turned thirteen years old, she was allowed to work in the Tavern as a barmaid like her mother did. Needless to say, Jade hated it with a right passion, hated the catcalls that came from the drunk men and she hated when men sought to grope her simply because she was passing them. She was a blossoming young woman and men saw that and wished to take advantage of that. Much older men made advances on her, some not even drunk and each time she would turn them down. She didn't want any relations with older men, she was too young for that and it didn't appeal to her in the least. Thankfully after expressing her hatred of the word she did, her father helped her get a job as a messenger. More years passed Jade and she continued growing and blossoming into a young woman. Though appearances were deceiving because as far as any young man knew, Jade Santeras was capable of handling herself should the situation call for it. She remained a messenger with a head full of dreams. She had no real aspirations to be royal or even noble, no her thoughts lay with the life of a Knight, how exciting that must have been. To go where you were needed and defend others to weak to defend themselves. It was the life she craved, that of adventure, a life outside the monotony of a peasant with no real future other than to serve others.
