Alex was glad she felt comfortable enough to talk. He merely shrugged to her first question. He choose to smile and leave it to her to figure out what he would make of it. He quite liked the jester persona. Then again, it was hardly practical for work or in situations that called for seriousness. Alex also made sure to take extra care among the more rowdy people who were dancing as well.
"I'm doing quite well? From an angel such as yourself, I am quite honored of this praise." Alex said. Back was the over flowery speech, but this time he was merely using it to tease. He hardly meant to be over flattering to cause her annoyance. It was all in good humor. He also saw that Brynn herself was a good dancer. Although, since she was apparently an avid dancer it was no wonder why. "I dance at the festivals, but i'm usually watching my sister or working. In fact, I don't get out as much as I would like. It's hard with my jobs. Although, when I do get time off I love to dance. It's a great way to have fun and pass the time."
Alex made a sharp turn just in time to avoid a particularly reckless couple who swung by. He looked at them and chuckled. He returned his attention to Brynn and bowed his head slightly in apology for the quick movement and the lack of warning. "It seems like this is becoming dangerous for a dance."

"That would be wonderful." Alex replied when she offered to arrange the get together for the little girls. Alex was sure that Lita would love to show her favorite doll to another girl near her own age. Somehow showing it off to Alex didn't have the same weight. Although that didn't stop Lita from also trying to get Alex to grow out his hair so she could practice braiding. On that matter Alex had managed to stand his ground.
"Ah, but torment is such a harsh word. I prefer to call it playfully jesting with." He responded in mock hurt. He even managed to llook a bit sheepish before he shrugged. His grin returned to quickly for him to have been serious in the first place. "However, I admit you are right. If everyone were the same, I could not admire you so." He said with a repenting look. He gave Gwen a small mock bow before straightening up again.
When Alex heard her say she was enjoying herself, he didn't feel like he could let her go back to the horrors that waited inside the dining room. So Alex tucked his dishtowel in a pocket of his pants and put his hands on his hips. "I'm glad I've entertained you, but it would be against the unspoken honour code to let you return to the dining room while it is inhabited by unsavory things. So you might as well hang around her a bit longer. If you did I could feel like I am upholding my honour." Alex said it was he felt to be a valiant tone. Of course there wasn't an actually code, but the exuse was the best he could come up with at the moment. That and he didn't want to make Gwen work more. With their chore done they could relax untill the meal was completely over with.

Alex chuckled at Brynn when she seemed to get flustered. He thought it was rather cute that she was embarassed over so small a thing. However, he did not dwell on it or tease her. He simply took her hand and led her into the crowd of dancing people. "A good thing you said yes. What a fool I'd have been if I had been left to dance alone." He said with a chuckle to let her know he was kidding around with her. He left out a few of the flowery compliments he was used to giving, but he could not promise it would last the whole dance.
For a boy who had grown up in and around kitchens, Alex was very light of foot. With a good sense of rythm, he did not get lost in the dance as a few others might. He was also careful to avoid bumping into other dancing pairs and let his arms guide Brynn around any trouble areas. Alex also made sure to keep one eye trained on the children, who he saw were off the one side practicing what he could only guess was how to run like chickens with no heads. Then again, Alex was sure there needn't be an exact structure to the games little children played. Just space in which to run.
"So how am I doing?" Alex asked, meaning his dancing skills. He notied that as it grew a bit darker outside, more lights were being lit. This at least made it harder to tell he wore red as opposed to a darker color. Although, Alex's mother said he acted like a girl when it came to his hair, Alex was quite proud of the fact that the color took firelight so well. He was also glad the same was true for Lita. Her light hair made it much easier to pick her out of the croud and find her in a moments notice. This way he could concentrate on Brynn more and less on watching Lita like a hawk.

"Alas, it is my fate to be in the company of two beautiful women and yet still my mother haunts my every move." Alex lamented with a short chuckle. He could only imagine the stories his mother could tell about him. It was never comforting to know that one person could have so many embarrassing little details about you. Even if it was your mother... Especially if it was your mother.
"Thank you Gwen for joining us on our great crusade against all of grape kind. They must be stopped, even if it brings us into grave peril." Alex said as he took another grape. He pretended to look at it closely and then ate it. Then he grinned at Brynn and reached behind her ear to appear to grab a grape from thin air. "See, even now they plot against us!" He exclaimed while offering said grape to Brynn with a flourish. He was quite glad to entertain the ladies all night. He was always glad to be around friends who didn't mind his silly and over the top ways. In fact, he tended to like to be a bit of a show off at times. Alex was vain and a flirt, but at least he was harmless.
Alex heard a commotion from one end of the kitchen and turned to face the direction it was in. He spotted a servant bent over who appeared as if he had just been running for his life. Alex recognized the face as one he had seen before, but they had never met personally. However, everyone knew Merlin by name and face. He was quite well known since he was the Prince's personal manservant. Alex smiled and stared at Merlin before responding. "It's going quite well... Grape?"

Alex almost gave a small grimace when she mentioned the red he was wearing. Although, worrying about his appearence soon took a back seat as he much preferred to admire that of his new friend. It wasn't fair that anyone could pull off such a difficult color that well. Alex may be free with praise, but when he complemented Brynn he meant it. Alex even saw Lita eyeing Brynn's dress. "If I look mighty fine, it is merely because I stand next to your beauty." He stated with a wink.
Lita was becoming thoroughly charmed by the older girl. She wasn't as condescending as most, and so got a plus in Lita's book. There was also something pleaseant in the way Brynn spoke to her brother. Lita approved instantly of Alex's choice in friends. "Elinor? Is she the one who is wearing the pretty leaf crown? I think she plays near my house sometimes. I should show her my doll! Then we could play." Lita said with a smile breaking across her face. She was missing a tooth and the replacement was already beginning to show. Not a week past she had been proudly proclaiming to anyone who would listen that only big girls lost teeth.
Alex listened to his sister and restrained himself from again patting her head in affection. He certainly wished all people were as kind as children were. Instead he merely bent down and looked Lita in the eye. "Do you want to go play with them Lita? As long as you promise to stay very close and check in with me regularly I'll let you go play. Just make sure you can always see me, ok?" Alex said very seriously. Lita nodded and threw her arms around his neck briefly before running after the other children.
Alex straightened up and turned to Brynn. "You like to dance? Then please allow me the honour of a dance."

Alex watched the people dancing as Lita jumped up and down and cheered. He smiled and even tapped his foot a bit. However, he did not want to leave lita alone so he stayed to the side. He thought he saw a familiar face in the dancers, but the girl moved too much for him to get a good view. After a few minutes he caught a voice and turned to answer the person. He saw Brynn from the night before and led Lita over to her. He lifted Brynn's hand up and kissed it as Lita pulled a face at him. "Fair Brynn, you look ever lovely." He said as he let her hand go. He nudged Lita forward, and was amused to see his younger sister sizing Brynn up speculatively. Lita even crossed her arms as she surveyed the strange girl. Alex raised an eyebrow and waited for his sister. Lita turned back and nodded very gravely. She then turned her small face back towards Brynn and smiled.
"I'm Lita. Now you better not go stealing Alex tonight, cause Mama says I can only stay out as long as Alex watches me, and I plan to stay out an awfully long time." Her young voice was strong and she left no room for any questions. As far as Lita was concerned, her word was law. Alex chuckled and patted Lita adoringly on the head even as lita reached up to smoothe her hair back down indignantly. "This is my younger sister." He explained to Brynn. He made a note in his head, that like Lita, Brynn was the type of person who could still look pretty in red. A feat he knew not many could accomplish. He also thought the wreath on her head was a nice touch.
"We are having a wonderful time. I take it you are fareing well also?" He asked politely, while Lita turned back to watch the dancers, no longer interested in the conversation. Alex let her, but kept one of her hands in his own. Even while smiling and joking, Alex still wore the telltale signs of every protective older brother. However, at the moment he trained his attentions on Brynn.

Alex laughed along with Brynn. He shook his head and waved his finger in mock disapproval. "Staying away outside may give you fresh air, but it deprives the rest of us of your wonderful company. Very selfish Brynn. I had thought better of you." He teased and crossed his arms. He could not contain his laughter for too long, because he was soon chuckling again. His fake seriousness fell away from his features and was replaced by a grin.
With another wink, Alex gestured toward the bowl of grapes. He reached over and tilted an empty bowl so that the grapes were covered and contained. "I think that might solve the problem for now." He said again trying to keep a straight face. If there was one thing to be said about Alex, it would be that he was both a terrible liar and a terrible card player. He could not find it in him to completely mask his amusement, and once again fell into laughter.
When Alex heard Gwen he turned halfway towards her and pointed at himself. He even looked a bit sheepish. "Who? Me? Trouble? I am grievously wounded by your words Gwen. And this source you speak of must be full of fallacy. I was just talking to the fair Brynn. My intentions are completely honorable in every way." He replied. He took Gwen's hand with a small flourish and kissed it lightly before letting it go again. Then he shuffled his feet in a false contrite manner. He even managed to look slightly hurt when his grin faded a bit more. "And it was really all the malicious grape's fault."

"I am sure Lita would love that. And I will do my absolute best to keep her undigested until that time." He replied. He was pretty sure he had seen Gawain around before. Plus, he knew that Lita absolutely loved to meet others near her own age. Alex could recall a few instances in which Lita wanted him to take her to play with the other children of the Lowertowns. Of course, Alex had no strength whatsoever when it came to resisting Lita. He could hardly count the number of times when he had caved into her every little whim. It was rather emasculating to be bossed around by a little girl, but Alex made do with the hand he was dealt.
"Watching kids, waiting on the elite... Are you ever not helping people. If all people were as good as you, we would never have to worry about anything." Alex said laughing. He was quite sure he had never encountered someone who seemed so giving and cared so much. It was refreshing compared to the conniving and sometimes mean spirited manner that was common these days. Alex sometimes found himself missing the easy going days when he was young. Everything seemed brighter as a child. It was most likely his want to bring that feeling to everyone that caused his consistent good mood. Making others feel good was reward in itself.
Looking down, Alex realized they had cleaned their way through half of the dishes. He beamed up at Gwen. "Having you around has certainly made time go faster. That or we have simply worked at the best rate I've ever seen." Alex said incredulously. He was sure that they had only been at work a few minutes. Then again, he wasn't used to having help with his work. Alex was sure he would have to make it up to Gwen in some way. Perhaps he would do something nice for her when she least expected it. Brightening other's days was after all his unofficial job.

[Day two of the festivities, early evening]
Alexander tugged at his sleeves as he fidgeted with them for what felt like the one hundredth time that day. He was so used to rolling them up for work that they felt strange brushing his wrists. The bright scarlet was in theme for the day's events and Alex regretted the fact he could not pull the color off nearly so well as the family they represented. He selfishly wished at times the royal family had blue or green as their colors. Not only was that the theme for the day, but men wore fall colors and summer colors for the next two days as well. Alex suddenly felt as if someone out their secretly plotted against him and was conniving to make him look ridiculous. Any minute now they would appear to laugh at him.
In all honesty, Alex was just exaggerating. He might be silly and overly confident most of the time, but he was just as vain as anyone else. He ran a hand through his hair as he strolled from the bakery toward the area where the celebrations were going on. He had finished his promised shift for his step-father and was now free for the night. Well, mostly free. As his younger sister Lita raced out behind him and took his hand, Alex smiled at her. He may look awful in red, but he couldn't see anyone not thinking his Lita was adorable. In a scarlet dress and two thin gold ribbons in her hair she was grinning for all she was worth. It was the first year their mother was letting her go to the party with only Alex as a guardian.
She tugged him as she sped ahead, dragging him towards the sounds of people. He merely chuckled and let himself tag along behind her. Keeping an eye out around them, he made no move to enter the thick crowd that took up the center of the activities. The lights were already being lit, despite the fact the sun had not set yet. Lit and Alex stayed to the side observing the people having a good time. Alex kept an eye out for familiar faces.

[After this should we wait for the others to join and establish a posting order?]
Alex was amused to find how much he had startled the girl. He also felt a bit sheepish for it as well. However, she seemed to be ok, since she joked about it. Already Alex took a liking to her. She was nearly as friendly as he was, and didn't seem too overly bothered by his chatter. "Brynn, it is indeed a pleasure. I can see why we aren't familiar to one another seeing as I am hardly ever outside the kitchens when working. However, it seems a shame to keep a girl so pretty outside and away from all of us in here. Then again, perhaps that's the point." He teased and returned her wink. Although, now that he knew who she was he was pretty sure he had seen her before. He had probably just been to busy to introduce himself. Well that had been easily remedied.
"Yes, that grape was a most unsavory figure. Most likely was bossing all the other grapes around. You had to eat it for it's own good, and for the good of all the grapes in Camelot." Alex said with a wide gesture. He spoke in an elevated tone that was highly exaggerated and ended his sentence with a small chuckle. He found that humor was a good way to make friends and so never missed a chance to make others laugh. What use is a good mood if it can't be shared?
Alex leaned back again and ran a hand through his hair subconsciously. It was a habit of his he had never quite learned how to drop. It came as naturally as breathing... and talking in his case. Alex picked up another grape from the same plate as the previous and ate it. He grinned toward Brynn and raised an eyebrow. In response to his own action he simply said, "That one was an accomplice."

"Of course sire. I will write up the final count when everything is done." Alex said immediately. His confidence returned and even a hint of his usual smile ghosted onto his face. However, his brow furrowed and his serious air remained. He could not let a bit of pride get in the way of anything this important. Alex already noted that he should send a small message home telling his family not to be worried if he worked later then usual. He didn't think he would be leaving the premises until everything was settled. Even if that meant staying all night and until the crisis was over. He knew the chef was always letting servants bunk down near the kitchens in case of special events. This was no different. Plus, the ration distributing would happen relatively early and he had to make sure everything was ready.
"I will see to it that the distributing can start by tomorrow morning at the latest, Sire." He said with a matter of fact tone. If the servants all pulled together and a few worked an extra shift they would be able to make the deadline. the faster food was given out, the faster the people of Camelot could get some relief from their hunger pangs. Alex had already planned to work an extra shift so he had gotten enough rest the night before to last until the job was done. If everything worked out, he could even tell Lita that for a brief period of time he had reported directly to the prince and had helped the people of Camelot in some small way. Alex already felt his energy replenishing just by working himself up to the task. While he was never very serious usually, he grew a steely determination to rival anyones when the pressure was on. And the pressure was definitely on.

Alex was in a wonderful mood. Not that he wasn't normally in a good mood anyway. However, with all of his work done he was free to enjoy the night. He stacked the last of the plates left to him and let himself lean against a counter for a moment. He let his arms stretch above his head as he worked out the cramps he had from working for so long. With that done he stood and leisurely sauntered over to the main area of the kitchens. As he walked he looked around and reminded himself to take some of the leftovers home for his family. He also made special note to get something sweet for his little sister Lita to enjoy. A second note was made to hide said sweet from his mother... and his step-father.
He saw that there was already somebody in the kitchens who looked to be waiting for something or someone, and so he moved toward her with a grin already on his face. With slight disreguard for personal space he stopped almost directly in front of her.
"You look like you are going to enjoy your night off. Mind if I join you for a while?" He asked as he propped himself up on the nearest table edge. With a lightly raised eyebrow and his sleeves still rolled up from work, he looked every bit the mischevious kitchen boy. Not that he wanted to bother or frighten the girl. It was just in his nature to be friendly. Not too mention he tended to talk a mile a minute. Even now thoughts ran through his mind like mice chasing each other in the corners of the room. With Alex it was never if he would speak, but a matter of when and would he ever stop.
"I'm Alex by the way. Surprised we've never been introduced since I've worked here over two years now. Funny how things like that work out." He said. With a stop in his long flow of speech, he gave her a minute in order to answer him and introduce herself. It was always good to be polite, at least that's what his mother tried to drill into him. Plus, his step-father was always telling him that it was good sometimes to listen as oppose to simply go on and on until stopped. Alex was working on it. He had even managed not to annoy the head chef all night with his prattle. A definite improvement overall.

Alex let her change the subject as soon as he realized is was a touchy subject for her. He knew what it was like to lose a father, but he could not imagine how hard it was to feel like your parents honour was forever in question. So instead of continueing to speak of such things, he transferred his thoughts to Lita and Gwen's new line of conversation. Even at the thought of his sister his smile reappeared.
"Indeed I am lucky to have such a sister. I would most likely consider the person I am closest to." He said beaming. Alex even chuckled at the mention of finding Lita in a piece of bread. She was so small that Alex wouldn't even be surprised if one day a customer found a filling they didn't quite expect. Imagine a small girl leaping from your lunch.
"I would much oblidged kind lady. I fear that someday someone might eat the poor little dear if I am not careful." Although he was joking, the slightest hint of real protective instinct flashed briefly over his features. He might kid about lita, but when it came to her saftey he would do anything in his power to protect her. Silly as Alex may appear, he was quite serious when it came to his Lita.

Alex shook his head at the idea he would need to be reminded of something so important. He didn't think there was a single person in Camelot who did not realize the grave situation they were in.Alex had every intention of taking this more seriously then any undertaking he had ever committed to before. When asked if he had any questions he knew he probably should answer no, but Alex was never one to shy away from speaking if it might be even the slightest bit important.
"Actually sire, if I might inquire as to who I should send my reports too when the task is completed. I would hate to have a breakdown in any communication at this point." His answer was very straightforward. If he was unsure of who to report too then all of the time saving adjustments made would mean nothing. Alex's step-father had once told him that in a crisis, it was no good to run around and stir up chaos. If communication remained clear and steady there would be no further issues to complicate an already messy situation.
Alex waited for a reply hoping he hadn't been too impertinent in holding the Prince up with his questions. He was sure the prince had many important things he should be attending to elsewhere. It was not for a servant to hold him up because the servant couldn't figure everything out already. Alex found himself growing nervous while waiting for the answer.

Alexander was again caught by surprise. That he would be put in charge was not something he had foreseen. In fact, he was glad to have been given any responsibility to begin with. It wasn't that he was not capable, but he had only been working in the castle for a year or so. He was used to being discarded in favor of servants who had been around longer. However, with a steely determination he rarely had he gave a short nod.
"Of course, Sire. I shall see to it that everything gets done." Now this was something his sister would really get excited over. Alex half wondered if his parents would even believe him. If they did, he was sure his step-father would simply tell him not to mess up. Alex was sure he would do just that. He would not fail the prince if it killed him. Not that it would, seeing as organizing was not quite the most dangerous job out there. With an attention to detail that Alex had worked to hone, he did not foresee the job being a difficult one. The hardest part was likely to be getting anyone to listen to him, but with a voice as loud as his could be he was sure it would be accomplished.
Already ideas on how to perfect the system already in place were running through his mind. If they shifted some labor from the servers to the storage rooms then everything would not only be faster, but it would be easier to distribute when everything was counted and recorded. After all, it's not like the servers would have anything to serve if this didn't get done. Again Alex eyed the rest of the room to make sure nothing had stopped while he spoke to the prince. It hadn't, but people had overheard the conversation. Perhaps it would not be so difficult to get people to listen to him after all.

"Alexander, sire." Alex said with a slightly startled look. it wasn't often anyone of the upper class bothered to ask his name. He quickly wiped the puzzlement off his face and replaced it with a calmer look. His eyebrows settled back into their normal place and he closed his mouth so as not to gape. He wondered whether there was a purpose to this question or if it was merely curiosity. Whatever it was, it was not for Alex to ask.
Alex opted to remain quiet after giving his name. It was interesting he did so seeing as how the chef was always teasing about how he never shut up. Too bad the chef couldn't just ask royalty into the kitchens whenever Alex got too carried away. Somehow that didn't really seem like a viable option. Alex settled his nerves again and thanked whomever was watching over him that he had managed not to either talk to much and be annoying or say something that would insult the prince. In fact he was just thankful he didn't feel his usual urge to say whatever came to his mind. Although, he was unsure whether it was entirely the shock of talking to royalty or whether it also had to do with the sombre mood of the days they were in. He was sure the second must have something to do with it seeing as he had been unusually quiet for a while now.
If anything, at least Alex would have something interesting to talk about next time he had some time off to go visit his family. His younger sister Lita was always begging for stories from the castle. Now he had something to tell her that wasn't half rumour from the kitchens. Alex was not sure whether Lita would be more impressed by his meeting the prince or by the prince himself who cared so much for his people. Lita was always keen on stories of nobility and chivalry.

"Yes! That would be my little sister Lita! She's always scampering around there. Keep telling her that one day we will find her stuck in the dough." Alex said with no hold on the adoration in his voice. If there was one person he held above all others it was his younger sister. Even while he stood talking to Gwen he could clearly imagine her covered in flour and attempting to copy her mother and help out with the bakery. For a six year old she was very persistent.
"I'm sure they could tell you some stories. Not sure I'd like that. Most people don't like having their most embarrassing stories revealed." He replied to her teasing. He smiled to let her know he was also kidding. To be honest, Alex did enough to either embarrass himself or reveal previous embarrassments himself. That was a problem in talking to much. Alex began to wash another dish but paused when she spoke of where she lived. Since he had been around the palace a while and lived in the lower towns, he was very aware of the story of what had happened to the blacksmith. Not all of the details were available but people talked. Alex had even spoken to Tome once or twice while running errands for his step-father. He had seemed like a really good man.
"I'm sorry for your loss. if you don't mind me saying, I'd met your father once or twice. He was a good man, and he raised a very kind daughter." For a second his usual smile faded. He was acutely aware of what it was like to lose a father. For him it had happened earlier, and he had his mother and later his step-father to help him. However, he hated that someone like Gwen could be left alone like that. He felt himself sympathize immensely with her plight. Yet she had grown and still managed to go on. It was more then most people would have been able to do. it made Alex admire her all the more.

Alex listened to the prince's question and spared another glance at the progress of the others in moving the grain. He straightened his shoulders and squarely faced the prince. This was something he could talk about and know exactly what to say. In fact he had been talking to the chef about this not half an hour past.
"Well sire, with the original plans we had in place for extreme cases like this we would not be done for days, which is not helpful given the situation. However, upon review we found the flaws to be merely inefficient placement of workers." Earlier Alex had made an offhand comment on how the small kitchen staff could hardly carry their own weights in grain. He of course got scolded for joking at an inappropriate time, but also cued the head chef into a major issue with the way things were organized. Alex hadn't had a clue saying something so offhand would actually be useful. Definitely a first in the history of stupid jokes he had made.
"Reworking the plans to include what normally would be staff from other parts of the castle we have upped our efficiency. We should be done in not two hours time." He finished his report on the time status. Looking for himself he was relieved to find that the way things looked, they might be finished even earlier. If they could find a way to make their supplies last then there would be longer to find a solution to the growing problems with the food sources. Alex had a sinking feeling that was happening to the crops was not entirely natural. There was just no way that anything could kill off whole fields overnight. Alex had no knowledge on the subject, and so had kept his opinions to himself. A rare occasion indeed.

Alexander heard someone come up to him but it took him a minute before he turned to look. He held up a hand as he finished the basic figures in his head as he reviewed the list. It was only when he raised his eyes to see who had spoken that he let his jaw drop slightly. Alexander had never spoken to the prince nor been near him, but every citizen of Camelot could recognize Arthur right away. While it was one thing to see royalty in the castle, it was another thing altogether to speak with them.
"Sorry highness, I did not know it was you." He said quickly and held the list rather shield like at his chest. His countenance was one not of fear but of mere anxiety. However, the prince's level gaze had a bit of a calming effect. It was soothing to see that there was at least someone who did not look as if this famine was going to make them run around like a chicken who had lost it's head. Alex realized he had been silent for a moment and that he had been staring rudely the whole time.
"If I'm to be quite honest, the supplies we have won't last more then a week if we are very careful. I've looked over the stores and they aren't what we had hoped. At the moment we are sorting through everything to create the proper rations to distribute." He informed the other man. As he spoke his posture relaxed. Alex just had to remind himself not to talk too much as he usually did. He restrained himself from going on about the situation past the basic details he had already given. Alex also maintained a careful eye to what was going on around them. His attention to detail never wavered when it came to his job. He made sure to keep an idea of how much of what went where so that later going back over the lists would be easier

"Not worried I'll drop it are you?" Alex asked as he saw her move as if to catch it. He laughed and stilled the plate in his hands. He held it out for her to take with a raised eyebrow. He didn't want to worry her so he might as well lessen his toying with breakable objects. If the head chef had seen this he might give Gwen a reward for taking away something that seemed to stress him to no end. Alex was teasing but took care to not take it too far most of the time. Usually his biggest problem was simply saying to much at any given time.
"You might have been there. I sometimes help out but since we have never met you would probably have seen my mother in the front of the shop. Tall with dark hair and blue eyes. People say I kind of look like her." He smiled and touched his own eyes lightly for a moment. It was really one of the only slightly feminine features on his face. Alex brought his hands down and faced Gwen fully.
"Next time you're in town and need to get bread, just turn left as soon as you get the the main road. The shops right off to the side. Tell them you my friend and you should get a great deal." He was often friendly with many people but he mostly hesitated to call them by the title of 'friend'. It was more that he made friends easily but not very long term. A hazard of his flighty nature. However, he liked Gwen. She was a happy person like himself and genuinely seemed to care for others. He could easily see himself sticking to being her friend for a while.
"Do you board at the castle, or do you live in town? Myself, I stay near the bakery to help out on my off days." He asked pleasantly. He figured since she bought bread in the city she must live there. No point in buying bread in the city if you had to trek all the way from the castle. Plus, in the castle there was normally a constant supply in the kitchens. Alex would know being as he helped carry it around all the time. Sometimes he even got sent to deliver it to other parts of the castle.
