Nora ignored the way Caitrin smiled to herself and ran a hand through her hair, knowing in all likely what the other, more experienced woman was thinking about. Yet she did not miss the giggle Caitrin thought she had suppressed when she took a slip of her tea. But of course, Nora knew better than to let on that she did, so she just smiled before taking another soothing slip of calming tea.
When Nora mentioned Adian's name, she could not help but notice a knowing grin escape from her face. But she brushed away what it could mean when she tried -- and failed miserably at -- explaining the situation between them.
"But what?" Caitrin asked her gently with a reassuring smile on her kind face, “What is it that’s bothering you about him?”
"It's hard to explain really what happen..." Nora began to explain, hoping that Caitrin could possibly shed some light on the situation. For she was more knowledgeable when it came to the opposite sex, far more than she was. She began to explain her inexperience with men and flirting, "As you know, my mother died when I was young and I practically brought up my sister. So when it came to flirting and learning the ways of the heart, I did not have anyone to confide in or..." Nora stopped as she feel a wave of guilt overwhelm her. For her father did do his best to raise them, as well as their governess. But Nora always felt shy to ask her anything when it came to men. "Anyway, like I said. Not having anyone around to help me, well when Aidan approached me... I tried my best but his awkward and uncomfortable countenance confused me and well I may have reacted wrongly and it just..." God, even trying talking about it left Nora feeling further confused and at a loss talking any words of coherency.
“But you are right, I do know him," Caitrin told her, most likely to end the couple of seconds of silence, "Though I haven’t spoken to him properly in years.” Caitrin pointed out and Nora nodded her head, "I don't suppose you have since your marriage to Griff." Nora then got up the courage to ask her what she as been dying to ask her since she brought up the subject. "But that being said, I was hoping that maybe you could give me some insight or advice..." But she paused as her nervousness got the better of her. No wonder, Nora thought, that I'm terrible when it comes to attracting the opposite gender I can't even talk about it!

As much as Caitrin had hated her life in Mercia, in some respects, she had learnt from the Mercian courts well. Her older sisters had helped her along with court, not directly of course, but she had watched how they attracted men. She had seen how they had got men to fall for them, and follow their footsteps and she admired that. She had seen the other women as well, and she had based her looks and her dresses and most of all her attitude from those women. From the sound of it, Nora had the opposite experience. The fact Aidan had approached her struck Caitrin first of all, as she knew Aidan was slightly awkward, if not a bit shy. She smiled at her friend, “You should take pride in the fact he approached you.” She pointed out rather reasonably, and Caitrin smiled softly, “But if he was the first to approach you, it is normal to be shy.” Caitrin ran her hands through her hair, just smiling for the time being, until Nora spoke again.
Caitrin hadn’t spoken to Aidan in quite some time, but he was hardly at court, and since her marriage and her pregnancy her time in court had been limited. She didn’t mind of course because this was the life she had chosen now, and her family would always come first for her. Caitrin ran her hands through her hair, her time with Aidan had been quite fun in its own little way, and she had taught him a thing or two about women, and for that she was impressed. Heh, that had been in her more liberal days between the sheets, when she hadn’t been too fussed about the company that she kept and who she let into her thoughts. “No, I’ve been away from court because of my condition, and then because of the result of that.” Caitrin smiled softly as she looked over to her sleeping daughter. She truly was beautiful, she was a little miracle, and she really was so loved.
Looking back to Nora, she was quite surprised when she was asked for help with her love life. She had never really been asked for her advice, though her reputation was well known at court, as scandalous as that was. Caitrin had had her fair share of male encounters, probably more than she should have had. That was all subjective though, and Caitrin just looked on at her friend, not sure what to say. She did want to help, she just didn’t know how. “What do you need help with? Specifically, I can help you, or at least I will try to.” She said softly and smiled at her friend, Caitrin could help Nora with her dress, charms, and dances, but not unless her friend told her specifically what was wrong.

“You should take pride in the fact he approached you.” Caitrin pointed out to Nora rather reasonably, and Nora nodded her head, "Yes he did." Caitrin smiled softly back at her, “But if he was the first to approach you, it is normal to be shy.” Nora watched as Caitrin ran her hands through her lovely red hair though she was talking she could not stop herself. She wished she had Caitrin's self confidence and assurance. Caitrin continued to smile at her as she continued to talk.
"This is true. The problem was we both seemed to be going backwards and forwards between feeling nervous and awkward. One moment things would be going well and then I would say something or he would say something as we would both take it the wrong way and offend each other. Or think we have..." Nora wondered if she was making any sense and hoped that Caitrin understood what she was saying. This was her problem, really. Whenever she was around the opposite sex she had the tendency to talk before she thought. Especially when she was nervous and attracted to the man she was talking to.
“No, I’ve been away from court because of my condition, and then because of the result of that.” The other woman smiled softly as she looked over to her sleeping daughter and Nora felt another pang in her heart. For there was nothing that Nora wanted more than to have her own family with the man she loves. Only problem was she wasn't sure if she had found him yet.
"Of course you haven't." Nora smiled knowingly. Nora noticed Caitrin's look of surprise on her face when she asked for her help when it comes to men, which Nora could not help think was a little odd. But thought nothing of it.
“What do you need help with? Specifically, I can help you, or at least I will try to.” Caitrin said softly as she smiled at her.
"God, honestly I have no idea. The whole thing makes me rather nervous and awkward and uncomfortable. I think really want I need is someone to confide in and help me work out what he could be thinking or feeling..." Nora paused and then something sprang in her mind, "Oh maybe you could help in learning how to not feel so awkward and to be more confident. And knowing some things to say when the conversation starts to subside would be good." Nora smiled hopefully -- praying that Caitrin would be able to something, give her some advice to help her man situation.

Caitrin had always known that Aidan was an incredibly shy man, but that was probably because he was hardly ever at court. He had eventually relaxed around Caitrin, though perhaps it had been harder for Elenora, after all Caitrin had got to know Aidan on a one to one basis. They had not had the whole of the court as their witnesses. She nodded at Nora’s words, not really sure what counsel to offer at this point. She had never really been in the situation Nora was describing, though she could imagine the situation quite vividly as if it were happening in front of her very eyes. Caitrin could only look on at Nora, thinking of the right words, and willing them to come to her, “I am sure you have never offended anyone. He was probably just as nervous as you were Nora.” She explained softly and ran a hand through her hair again.
Esmae, who had been asleep, began to groan and wriggle in her blankets and without hesitation Caitrin set down her tea and scooped her daughter out of her blankets. She had always been quite a light sleeper, and stirred easily, whereas her brother tended to have a deeper and longer sleep. The child only cried for a few moments before realising she was in her mother’s warm arms again. The baby was pressed up against her mother’s chest, her head coming to rest just on her shoulder. Esmae quickly settled into her new position and she began to close her eyes again. “Bad dream I think.” Caitrin said softly, looking on at her friend as her hands supported her baby daughter. She kissed Esmae’s head before wondering what to say back to her friend.
“Aidan is quite a shy sort of man, if he did like you it is likely he would not hint at it. He’s not one to put his feelings on the table.” The opposite to her husband, Caitrin reflected. She looked back at Nora, “I know that isn’t helpful, but all I can advise is perhaps you should make the next move. Perhaps invite him for a ride out into the countryside, or a picnic, or even to dine with you. I am sure he would appreciate the effort.” The next piece of advice that Nora was asking for was something Caitrin couldn’t just teach her straight away. She could be crude about it, and suggest unladylike things for Nora to partake in to retain Aidan’s attention. That had worked for Caitrin, but Nora seemed very different in many respects. “Confidence will come with time, as you get to know him better it will come.” Not all women were born to be bold and loud. Caitrin was a loud and bold woman, but that didn’t mean that Elenora had to be as well.

Nora could see some uncertainly in her friend's eyes. And she wondered why for she knew that Caitrin was wise and knowledgeable when it came to courting and such, especially considering she is now happily married and settled with two adorable babies. But she supposed it more had to do with the fact that they both were quite different in personalities; with Caitrin being more confident and out-going, while Nora was more shy and reserved. Well, she did enjoy certain aspects of court live like balls and dancing, it was just sometimes she preferred the good company of a good book.
“I am sure you have never offended anyone. He was probably just as nervous as you were Nora.” Caitrin explained to her softly and once again she ran a hand through her hair, which made Nora think as to why she was a acting a little uncomfortable. But her thoughts were interrupted when Esmae began to fuss. Nora watched as Caitrin picked up her daughter and settled her against her chest, before she told her "I think that is the problem. We both are incredibly shy and nervous that we didn't know how to act around each other."
Finally, little Esmae eyes shut and Caitrin explained that it must have been a bad dream that woke her up. Nora smiled back at her friend, glad that she manged to get little Esmae back to sleep so swiftly.
“Aidan is quite a shy sort of man, if he did like you it is likely he would not hint at it. He’s not one to put his feelings on the table.” Caitrin explained to Nora before turning her head back towards her after giving her daughter a kiss on her head. “I know that isn’t helpful, but all I can advise is perhaps you should make the next move. Perhaps invite him for a ride out into the countryside, or a picnic, or even to dine with you. I am sure he would appreciate the effort.”
"No Caitrin. You're advice is actually quite useful because it is a start. Instead of us constantly bumping into each other and being at a loss as to what to say or do. Well, at least it is that way with me. That and I seem to have trouble reading him, making me feel more uncertain and nervous..." Nora stopped herself before she continued rambling and not making much sense.
“Confidence will come with time, as you get to know him better it will come.” Nora smiled back at her friend's words, feeling a little comforted that Caitrin did not tell her to change who she was. For not all woman were bold and she appreciated that her friend did not want to change who she was to attract a man. For that worked for some women who naturally possessed that quality, but it was not a part of everyone. Certainly not her.
"I hope so." Nora wished. Then she looked over to where the potion was and cleared her voice before she asked Caitrin hopefully, "Do you think the potion is ready yet?"

Now, Caitrin might have been an accomplished courtier in her heyday, but she wasn’t sure how much of that she could pass onto Elenora. Most of Caitrin’s tactics had involved embracing a man and getting to know about him later, if he took her fancy. That was how it had been with Griff, and she had never expected anything to come of it, but somewhere along the way she had fallen head over heels in love with Griff, and there had been no coming back from that. She wasn’t complaining, and she supposed that love really did take you by surprise, and she had almost just known what to do when Griff had come along. She wasn’t sure how to put that in advice form because she didn’t know how she had managed to get Griff to fall in love with her, and vice versa. It had just sort of happened, and one morning everything had made sense, and he had been the only man in her thoughts.
Esmae was usually the harder of the twins to settle, but she had probably hardly woken herself up with her cries, as she still felt incredibly drowsy against Caitrin. She just smiled down at her daughter as she held her against the warmth of her own body, waiting until she had stopped her small cries. “What’s wrong Es?” She whispered to her daughter, and all she felt was her daughter snuggling into the warmth of her gown. She leant slightly against her chair, and shifted so she could sit comfortably while holding her daughter. Caitrin was just holding Esmae, and rested her cheek against the baby’s head. She had so much love for this child, and her brother of course, and she knew how lucky she was.
It did seem to Caitrin that Nora and Aidan just needed to get to know each other better. Aidan was just like any other man, she had proven that with their intimacies when her Uncle had tried to push them together. In the end they had resided to nothing more than distant friendship, like she said she hadn’t seen Aidan in years. She had got what she had wanted from the time from him, but now he was nothing but a distant friend. “When you get to know him the shyness will disappear, trust me.” Though she had never been shy, Aidan had been a lot less shy when he had relaxed and when they had got to know each other better, “Just be sure of yourself, because if you are meant to be together it will all work out in the end.” Aidan certainly hadn’t been a man to show his feelings in an upfront manner, he had preferred to act shy and play it that way. He just wasn’t as used to courting as Caitrin had been, and she had used that to her advantage. “Will you invite him round then?” Caitrin asked brightly, because things would progress if she did so, one way or another. She was sure everything would be fine between Nora and Aidan once they did get to know each other better. She couldn’t see anything about the match which wasn’t agreeable.
In truth she had nearly forgotten all about the potion, what with the excitement of hearing about the possible courtship with Aidan. She nodded towards Nora, “Yes, the potion should be ready.” They would just have to get her father to take the potion now, or else there would be no point in making it. “Should we take it up to him?”

Nora watched with a smile on her face as Caitrin settled her little baby onto her chest, moving slightly back against the chair so she would be comfortable.
“When you get to know him the shyness will disappear, trust me.” Caitrin told her positively. And Nora hoped that she was right -- really after a few years one would think she knew him well, but alas it did not end up that way. "That is true, though I wonder if its too late seeing as its been a several years since we first met." Nora admitted, concerned that maybe he would have found someone else since the last time they saw each other.
“Just be sure of yourself, because if you are meant to be together it will all work out in the end.” Caitrin advised her wisely and Nora smiled a hopeful smile, praying that her friend was right. That maybe once Elenora showed Aidan her interest in getting to know him better that he will reciprocated it. Though she knew that Aidan was not a man to show his feelings in a up-front and open way, she hoped that maybe once he got to know her that he would be the man she saw glimpses of inside him. “Will you invite him round then?” Caitrin asked brightly, with a coy look upon her face that Nora did not miss.
"Maybe," Nora told her friend coyly. She will, maybe. Once she gathered the strength to do so and when things with her father were... Nora could not complete that thought, for the pain of it was too much for her at the moment.
“Yes, the potion should be ready.” Caitrin told her and Nora had a feeling that like she had, forgotten all about the potion for their conversation was going so well. Making Nora felt a tad guilty for that seeing as her father was in so much pain and suffering upstairs. “Should we take it up to him?” Caitrin asked her and Nora nodded her head and then saw how settled Esmae was with her mother.
"What would you like to do with Esmae? Because if you want I could give my father the potion, seeing as little Esmae looks like she is very much settled and content with her mother," Nora offered kindly, knowing that Caitrin too did not like being separated from her daughter as much as her little girl did.

It really never was too late to really get to know someone. Though she and Griff had got to know each other in a very short space of time, they hadn’t been together exclusively since the start of their relationship. They had spent months apart, both thinking the other hated them. It wasn’t a high point in their relationship, and it was one that Caitrin would rather just forget about. However, Aidan was still unmarried, and therefore he was still very much available to Nora if her affections were still that way inclined. “It’s never too late, to the best of my knowledge Aidan is still single, and not promised.” She couldn’t recall any gossip at court, and she would have heard about such a thing as an engagement or a marriage, she wasn’t that out of touch with the real world after all.
When Nora gave her quite a short and sharp answer, Caitrin decided to leave the conversation there for now. After all, Nora probably had a lot more on her mind to cope with than courting and suchlike. Perhaps she would have time for that when her father was better, or when he passed. She couldn’t imagine what stress the whole thing was putting her under, and she was glad she hadn’t had to go through anything similar. She couldn’t do much for Nora’s father, but she could support her friend, and nod and smile when she was needed to.
Caitrin was sure he could move Esmae upstairs without bothering her too much. She wasn’t ready for a full sleep yet, she was just drifting in and out of sleep for now. Caitrin knew she wouldn’t be easy unless she had seen Nora’s father take the potion, because he did need it to ease his pain. If he couldn’t take it, because he wasn’t able, she wasn’t sure Nora would tell her. Not because she was being cruel or secretive, but because she wouldn’t want to hurt her feelings, and make her feel her efforts were for nothing. Looking at the brew, Caitrin bit her lip, and shifted so she could try and put Esmae back in the basket. She could, after all, carry the basket of blankets very carefully into the room. If Esmae started to stir once they were up there, she could always bring her out of the room. Esmae went down quite easily, though at first she wouldn’t let go of the front of her mother’s dress. She did look like she was going to cry, but she then just relaxed as Caitrin tucked her in, an let her eyes drop again. “If you could grab the brew, I’ll take Esmae with us. If she becomes too restless upstairs I will take her out of the room, I just want to make sure your father gets the brew, that is all.” She gave a soft smile, and then quickly thought that Nora may have offered so she could administer the brew in privacy. She had not thought of that straight away, “Unless you would rather do it in private?” She asked, not really knowing what delicacies were needed here.

“It’s never too late, to the best of my knowledge Aidan is still single, and not promised.” Caitrin informed her friend and Nora smiled a little -- glad that he wasn't promised to anyone else. "That is good," Nora admitted out loud.
Nora watched as Caitrin tucked her daughter in and at first Esmae was hesitant of letting go of Caitrin's dress but she eventually settled down. “If you could grab the brew, I’ll take Esmae with us. If she becomes too restless upstairs I will take her out of the room, I just want to make sure your father gets the brew, that is all.” Caitrin gave her a soft smile, and then Nora noticed Caitrin back-tracking when she said, “Unless you would rather do it in private?” Possibly thinking that she had offended her which was not the case -- was not the case at all and Nora was quick to reassure her friend of that.
"No, that is fine. We can certainly take Esame with us while you administer the potion to my father. I was just thinking about you and Esame and making sure you were both comfortable." Nora hoped that eased Caitrin fears in offending her.
"Shall I grab it now then? And bring it to my father?" Nora offered with a warm smile on her face. For she wanted to make sure that little Esame was settled before they set off to her father's chambers with the potion.

Again, Caitrin decided just to leave the topic of Elenora and Aidan alone. It wasn’t any of her business anyway, and though she was quite at ease with her love life, she supposed Nora was still finding her feet with her relationship, and it wasn’t for her to pry. If Nora wanted her to help her with her courting then she could come and ask for help. She doubted her friend would want to seek her out, because she didn’t feel like she had been much help. Plus, she had spent half her time worrying after her daughter. She did feel bad for neglecting her friend a little over her daughter, but it was the same with everyone. Her children would always come first now. Now she just smiled sweetly at her friend before she settled Esmae back down for her sleep.
She hoped that Esmae wasn’t going to sleep for long, because if she slept too long now then the hope of a good night’s sleep was just going to be a far off dream. Esmae was the only one who seemed to still wake during the night, Arthur slept through as long as his twin didn’t wake him up first which was incredibly likely. Caitrin did however have to admit that Esmae looked quite sweet while she slept, and she took the basket in her arms ready to go upstairs, it wasn’t that heavy as her daughter wasn’t that big yet. She was healthy and strong, and that was all that mattered.
She nodded at Nora’s suggestion, “Yes, if you take the brew I will follow you up with Esmae, and then we can make sure your father takes it.” She smiled again at Nora and waited for her friend to pick up the brew. Caitrin couldn’t help but feel slightly nervous about the whole thing, because she had come up with the brew, and she felt like this hung on her head. Even though she knew this wouldn’t save Nora’s father it would help some of his symptoms and that was it.

Caitrin grabbed the basket which held her sleeping daughter before she nodded at Nora's suggestion, "Yes, if you take the brew I will follow you up with Esmae, and then we can make sure your father takes it.” Caitrin then smiled again at her friend as she waited for Nora to pick up the brew which she did. Then Nora lead her from the kitchen back upstairs to administer the brew.
Nora could tell that her friend was nervous about it, no doubt afraid since she came up with the brew that it all came down to her. Though, Nora knew that it would be a huge miracle if it did actually cure her father, she knew that the most it will do is help relieve some of his symptoms and for that she was ever grateful to her friend.
Finally they arrived at the door and before Nora turned the door knob so they could enter her father's bed-chambers, she stopped and turned to face her friend. "I just wanted to tell you that no matter if this brew works or not that I'm very grateful that you agreed to try and help my father," she told her friend sincerely -- hoping that what she was saying would ease Caitrin's nervousness. For she did not want her friend to feel so much pressure -- Nora knew the reality of the situation.
"I also know that my father will no doubt pass away." Nora paused as she took a deep breath and willed herself to continue, "But it gives me great comfort that this brew may relieve a lot of his pain and suffering so that he may spend his last moments on this Earth in peace." Nora then turned back towards the door -- as she hoped to hide some of the tears that escaped her eyelids -- before she turned the door knob and gestured for her friend to enter first. But before Nora entered behind her friend, Nora took a deep breath and prayed that the brew would be successful in relieving her father's symptoms before she entered.

Caitrin did as she was bid and followed Elenora up to the room. She kept a firm grasp on the basket of blankets which held her daughter within them. She was used to carrying Esmae around like this now, she often did it when she wanted to venture into Camelot. It was easier to carry a basket than a babe in your arms, but that only really worked if she only had one of the twins with her. If she had two then she always needed help carrying them around no matter where she was. Now it was an easy affair though, and Esmae’s little performance earlier seemed to have subsided and she was now sleeping gently. It made a change, but she had probably won herself out with her crying from earlier.
Though Nora reassured her that it didn’t matter if the brew mattered or not she knew she was putting on a brave face just for her. She wasn’t about to stand here and argue that fact though, she really had more sense than that. She just nodded at Nora, and kept praying that the brew did have some sort of effect on Nora’s father, a positive one of course. She couldn’t do much to ease her friends pain, and she didn’t want to think that she’d failed in this respect as well. “Well, I am sure it will aid him.” Was all she could think to say. She just wanted this to work, she hadn’t practised herblore for so long and she felt like she was rusty.
Her heart really went out for Nora as she voiced that she knew her father was soon to passing. She honestly couldn’t imagine what her friend was going through, and she just bit her lip and nodded. She felt completely useless in a way. She could tell Nora how to charm a man to her bed, but she couldn’t help with her grief because she’d never had anything near to it. Caitrin entered the room and set Esmae down in the corner of the room on a chair. She would be stable enough there. She kissed her daughters head and just looked down at her for a few moments before she had to return to the full grief of reality. “Do you want to administer the potion? Or should I?”

Nora had a feeling Caitrin was still feeling very burdened just by her response. "I'm positive it will aid in him some way." Nora reassured her again -- well tried to anyway. Though Nora knew that Caitrin was a stubborn woman -- much like herself at times actually -- Nora smiled at her hopefully.
Though, Caitrin looked at a loss at what to say to her about her confession, Nora appreciated her friend's support and understanding. She knew that people found it hard to talk to people when they were about to lose someone they loved dearly.
Caitrin placed little Esmae, who was still sleeping peacefully, down onto the chair, kissed her forehead before she made her way towards Nora and her father's bed. “Do you want to administer the potion? Or should I?” Caitrin asked gently. Nora nodded her head and whispered quietly -- as to not disturb her father though he was most likely too far out of it, "You can do it. I'll hold his hand if that is alright." Nora had no idea why she asked that but she did not want to get in the way. Though even if she was she still would have have stayed where she was.
Thinking that Caitrin must have said yes -- for Nora was more concerned with looking at her father -- she placed her hand over her father's and held on to it with slight pressure. Not too much though. She did not want to hurt him, but she also wanted him to know that she was there. Nora then waited for Caitrin's next step -- which was to administer the brew to her ailing father.

Caitrin found that she had never hoped for so much in such a small space of time. She was hoping the potion would work, hoping it would ease Nora’s mind as well as her fathers health, as well as hoping Esmae just stayed asleep until the task was done. She needed to concentrate in order to administer the brew, which wouldn’t work if Esmae was crying, or if she was hungry. In fact it would be the most unhelpful thing the child could possibly do. At the moment she was sleeping soundly, occasionally shifting in her clothes and blankets as she moved about to make herself comfortable. Caitrin wished she could watch her all day, but she needed to complete the task at hand. Her motherly instincts had to be put on the line for a few minutes until the brew was given to Nora’s father.
Somehow, Caitrin suspected that Nora wouldn’t want to administer the brew herself. Then Nora could comfort her father, and hold his hand. Caitrin couldn’t offer the same amount of support, so it made sense that they had taken up the roles that they had. She breathed out slowly and took the brew, moving to the mans side and figuring out how she was going to do this. He was strong enough to take fluids, after all, that was how he had been kept alive despite his condition. Caitrin put the brew to the mans lips, and whispered that this would help him. He helped her as he began to give soft, gentle gulps. Caitrin had to stop her hand from shaking while she administered the brew to Nora’s father. With every gulp, Caitrin could hear herself half pleading with the spirits or whatever God’s were up there to just make this work, and to make everything ok again.
When the brew was finished, she set the goblet down on the side of the mans bed and stood up again. She looked back to Nora with a satisfied nod, “It won’t work straight away, but you should notice an improvement soon enough.” That was all she could say really. She could see that Nora had hold of her fathers hand, and she felt a little awkward for a few moments, “Would you like us to leave you alone for a while?” She asked kindly, as she would not be insulted if Nora wanted to spend some time with her father, he knew how much he meant to her, and it was important she did spend this time with him in a way, so he knew she was there for him.

Nora watched anxiously as Caitrin carefully administered the brew to her father. Of course she knew that it would not cure him, she had known that for a while. She just hoped that it provided him some relief from the pain he was no doubt in. So she prayed to the Gods in the Heavens above that it would ease his suffering while Caitrin gently helped her father drink the brew.
Finally the goblet was empty and Caitrin set it down on the table beside her father's bed, before standing up beside the bed, “It won’t work straight away, but you should notice an improvement soon enough.” Caitrin assured her gently before asking Nora if she would like to be left alone for a while.
"Yes," Nora nodded her head, "if you would be so kind." Nora knew that Caitrin understood that she needed to spend some time alone with her father. But before Caitrin went to pick up her daughter and give them some space, Nora told her gratefully, "Thank you for all you have done for him." Then she remembered to ask Caitrin if she wanted to stay to monitor her father's response to the brew or return back tomorrow for she knew that Caitrin was no doubt missing her son.
"Did you want to stay to monitor my father's condition or do you need to return home?" Nora asked her gently. "I understand if you want to return home to your family. You can come back tomorrow morning if you so wish." Though Nora would like for her friend to stay, she of course understood that Caitrin was now a mother and missed her child after spending quite a number of hours away from him. That was why she offered her the option of leaving, and she would not be offended if Caitrin decided to leave and return in the morning.

Once her work was done, Caitrin just looked over her patient. For a few moments she just remained in silence, praying that this was going to work, and praying everything would just be fine. She knew he wasn’t going to get better, but Nora knew that as well so that was fine in a sense. At least she was under no illusions that her friend was a miracle worker. Caitrin could offer this relief but that was it. It was times like this that she wished she was better skilled in herbalism, her tutoring had been cut short by the death of her nurse, Helgund, and her father had refused to find a replacement for her. No one could have ever replaced the woman in Caitrin’s heart, but she could have become more skilled.
It didn’t surprise Caitrin that Nora wanted to be on her own with her father for a while. She supposed if she were in the same situation then she would want the same. That was the thing, when helping people out medically, you were always there to aid but you had to know when to leave the family to it. Meghan had done that when she had delivered Caitrin’s children, she had been there until her work was done, and then she had left promptly to leave the new family to it. This was a more sombre affair, but the point still stood. “It’s no problem.” Caitrin replied with a soft smile as she went to go and collect Esmae from the corner of the room. The child hadn’t stirred yet from her sleep, and Caitrin was hoping she could get her home without waking her up. No doubt her brother would want a feed when she got back, so she would rather just have one of the twins to worry about for the time being.
As Caitrin went to pick up her daughter from the basket, as it wasn’t hers, Nora spoke again and she spun round to hear the woman out. In truth, monitoring his condition hour on hour probably wouldn’t help much, the effects would only seep in slowly, and they wouldn’t be noticeable until tomorrow anyway at the latest. “I shall come tomorrow morning if that is alright with you?” Plus she was already missing Arthur a great deal. She hated being apart from either of her children for too long. She knew she could be too overprotective and mothering over them sometimes, but she couldn’t help herself. “But if a problem arises, send a messenger to the estate and I shall come promptly. I will make sure I am there at all times.” She assured and then turned around so she could scoop Esmae out of the basket of blankets. The child groaned a little, but settled into the warmth of her mothers arms soon enough, “Unless you do wish me to stay?”

“It’s no problem.” Caitrin replied to Nora's request with a soft smile, then she went to go and collect Esmae from the corner of the room. Nora smiled gratefully back at Caitrin, glad that her friend understood that she needed some time alone with her father. “I shall come tomorrow morning if that is alright with you?” Caitrin asked her and Nora nodded her head, "Yes that is alright with me." Nora knew that brews and potions tended to take a while to work and have an effect on the patient, so she knew there was no point in her staying. Though a part of Nora wished her friend could stay for she really felt that her and Caitrin were becoming real close to being more that mere friends and acquaintances -- something much better. But she knew that it would be asking a lot for her to stay, especially considering she had a small family of her own at home waiting for her.
Nora smiled so appreciatively when Caitrin offered for her to send a messenger if her father's condition worsened over night -- grateful that her friend was willing to come in even the middle of the night just to attend to her father.
Then the woman offered to stay and Nora was truly touched by Caitrin's genuine kindness. "No, that is quite alright," Nora watched as Caitrin attended to her child, "I'm sure your husband and son are missing her a great deal." Then Nora stood up, looking down once again at her father to make sure he was alright before walking closer to Caitrin, "I'll walk with you to the door." Nora offered before she went and picked up the basket filled with Caitrin's medical supplies, knowing how difficult is it to carry a basket and small child.

Caitrin was quite glad that she hadn’t offended Nora in anyway with her wanting to leave. It wasn’t anything against the woman, or her fathers condition, but she suspected it was time to take her leave anyway. She supposed Nora would want some privacy with her father, and Caitrin did really need to get back home to check on Arthur. She worried quite a lot when she was apart from the twins, especially as they were both still new to her. Esmae looked quite settled and happy in her mothers arms as Caitrin prepared to take her leave. She kissed her daughters forehead and cradled her gently. Since becoming a mother she felt like she had been shackled to their cribs in a sense, she didn’t do that much for herself anymore, most of her time and effort went on her children, and her husband of course. They still had plenty of time and affection for each other; in that respect nothing had changed.
Of course Caitrin meant every word she said to Nora, the estate was only a short ride from here, so if she was needed quickly then she could always just be called upon to come. There was no reason for her to wait here, and she didn’t want Nora to worry about securing her comfort. Plus, she had children to feed, Caitrin suspected that Esmae would want a feed when she woke from her nap. She was getting used to all of this now, and knowing when her children needed certain things, there were still times when she didn’t know what to do though. She still had time to learn, she supposed.
“I’m sure they are.” Caitrin smiled back at Nora who picked up her basket. She flashed her friend a thankful smile, as she didn’t want to shift Esmae just yet in case she woke up. Caitrin began to follow Nora back down to where the carriage was waiting for her, “Thank you, I’m just sorry I couldn’t of be of more help.” She shrugged a little, “Do you want me to come alone tomorrow?” She asked, not sure whether Nora would want children around the house or not during this difficult time.

Caitrin followed Nora back down the stairs to where the carriage was waiting for her, “Thank you, I’m just sorry I couldn’t of be of more help.” She shrugged a little, and once again Nora had to reassure her that she was of more help that she thought. "Don't apologize Caitrin. I know that you did your best." Honestly it made her laugh a little -- though it was a grave matter. “Do you want me to come alone tomorrow?” She asked uncertainly, and Nora knew that Caitrin felt bad at bringing Esame again. But honestly she did not mind, she loved children after all.
"Whatever is easier for you Caitrin. Honestly, we do not mind if you need to pick one of the twins..." Nora smiled and then laughed, "Or both. Though that might be bit a handful." Nora shrugged then quickly added, "But I have a feeling that many of the servants would not mind for they do enjoy taking care of little children."
Finally, they arrived at Caitrin's carriage and Nora placed the basket onto the set for her. Before Caitrin and little Esmae stepped into the carriage, Nora gave her a warm hug and whispered into her ear very sincerely, "Thank you so much for your help today."
Then Nora waved to them before they rode off back to their estate and family. Leaving nothing for Nora to do, but return to her father's bedside and spent time with him, attend to him. And hope to God that Caitrin's brew managed to give her father much needed relief.

The Next Morning
Well, at least Caitrin knew the way to Elenora’s home better this time, or more her driver did. Last time he had been a little unsure, but this time the journey was swift and quick. Caitrin had brought her basket of herbs with her again in case Nora’s father did need some more attention this morning. But again, it wasn’t the only thing Caitrin had brought with her. It seemed Caitrin would start earning a reputation of only turning up with one of the twins, except this time it was Arthur rather than Esmae. Esmae had woken during the night and had already had her feed and she had been sleeping softly again in her crib when it had been time for Caitrin to leave. Arthur however hadn’t told her that he was hungry just yet, so she had brought him with her in case he got hungry while she was away. No one else could feed him at the estate, so it just made everything easier really. She looked down at her son, who was looking up at her curiously and making small cries now and again. He wasn’t upset, he was just letting his mother know that he was still there. His small fists were opening and closing gently and Caitrin held one of his small hands between a few of her fingers. Arthur was growing stronger every day and she was only glad of that fact. His sister had been so much bigger and stronger than him at birth, but he was catching up to her now. She could feel his quiet determination, and already she was so proud of him. She knew Arthur would make his family proud, no matter what he did.
The journey did not take them long, and a servant was there to greet her and to take her herb basket from her. Caitrin looked down at her son, who was wriggling around in his blankets restlessly. She frowned slightly, but shifted him so she could hold him against her shoulder, so he could see more of his surroundings, “What is it Arthur?” She asked him in a high pitched, and somewhat patronising voice. Her son started gurgling to himself, taking in his surroundings and Caitrin couldn’t help but grin at him. The twins never ceased to surprise and excite her, she was still learning how to be a mother, and she probably always would be from now on. Carrying him inside, Caitrin looked across to the servant who had fetched her, “Will you tell my Lady Elenora that I have arrived.” The servant set down her basket and went to fetch the Lady of the house. Caitrin hoped that Nora’s father had been relieved of some of his symptoms, though she knew he would never recover she hoped his passing would be less painful than it had been.
