Caitrin took some more slips of her tea and looked like she was very much enjoying it. “It’s impressive that you grow the brew, we mostly just buy our brew in Camelot.” She explained, amazed that Nora's estate grew tea. "Yes, well it started with my mother who decided to grow her own special blend for she loved tea so much. Then she died, and my father loved it so much that he could not stop producing it." Nora's face fell a little talking about her mother since she rarely talked about her. For while it happened over 20 years ago, she still missed her mother dearly.
Nora felt very comforted when she felt Caitrin's hand cover her own and squeeze it softly, “If you need anyone to talk to, I’m here.” Nora nodded her head, very grateful to her friend's offer of support.
"I just can not help thinking that he was getting better till that day my cousin came and things changed so dramatically..." Nora started to confide to her friend when she heard her maid, Isabel come outside quickly with a terrified look upon her face.
"What is it Isabel?" Nora asked her maid, concerned that it was her father and that he was dead. "Is it my father?"
The maid shook her head, "It's Matthew, Milday. He's collapsed and is looking very ill." Isabel explained to her, while trying to keep composed. Leaving both woman looking shocked, especially Nora who for a moment did not know what to do and looked to her friend as if for some guidance on what to do.

Caitrin smiled and gave a gentle nod as Nora spoke of her mother. Though her friend had been through a series of personal tragedies recently, it sounded as if her childhood had at least been happy and secure. She had not heard Nora speak of her mother before, and it was quite sweet to think that this tea was her mother’s legacy in a way. “What was your mother like?” She found herself asking, though she wasn’t overly sure whether she should be asking it at all. She didn’t want to upset Nora anymore, but she was interested as well, and she would not deny any information like that about herself if Nora was just as curious.
She supposed having the hope of her father getting better, only to have it dashed later on was worse than having thought her father wasn’t going to recover. There was nothing worse than having hope snatched away, and she supposed during the last few days, Nora had suffered just that. Caitrin did feel for her friend, but she had no idea how to comfort her. Caitrin doubted she would feel this level of emotion if her own father were to suffer the same fate. Her father had made her life a living hell, and if he had had his way she would still be under his thumb back in Mercia, rather than living her life here with the man she loved.
Caitrin however was saved the trouble of answering as at that point a young serving girl came out to tell them that a man had collapsed inside the house. Caitrin blinked a few times, was the house cursed so at the moment? “We should see if he is alright.” Caitrin suggested to Nora, who looked as if she were still coming down from the shock. If his illness was anything minor then Caitrin would be able to treat him herself. Perhaps she could help save someone instead of being the bringer of bad news continually. Caitrin took Arthur in her arms, and stood up, confirming that they should go and see what was wrong with this man.

Nora paused a little when Caitrin asked her what her mother was like. Not because it had upset her, oh no. Rather because no one had really talked to her or asked her about her mother. She supposed it was because they did not want to upset her, which she understood. So she was grateful that Caitrin was bold enough to do so for she had not spoken about her mother in ages.
"She was..." Nora began softly, "kind and the best person I know. Though, I was only five years old when she passed away, she taught me everything I know about being loyal and compassionate." She stopped as some more tears gathered in the corners of her eyes.
Nora was very relieved when Caitrin spoke up “We should see if he is alright.” She suggested to Nora and waited a little before she gathered Arthur into her arms and stood up, signalling that they should go and attend to the man. "Yes..." Nora muttered out, before she also stood up and without any delay, they followed Isabel to attend to Matthew.
It did not take long for them to find him. He had collapsed in the kitchen while he was getting everything ready for lunch. He looked very ill and pale in the face. Nora got down onto the floor beside him and placed her hand over his fore-head. He was seizing up with a bad fever, very much like her father did a few weeks ago. "He's seizing up," Nora informed Caitrin, before she turned to her maid and asked her concerned, "What happened?"
Isabel replied promptly, still looking quite shaken up, "He was checking the wine, as usual. When he suddenly went very quiet and looked very sweaty. I asked him to come and sit down, but before he could he fell down."

Caitrin felt a little sad as Nora spoke about her mother as it was clear that her mother had left quite the impact on her life, but in a good way. Caitrin’s mother had never had paid her much attention; she had been the youngest in a large family, and merely another mouth to feed. She’d felt like that everyday of her life, and everything she had learned wasn’t from her parents, it was from others around her. Caitrin was determined all of her children would be loved, no matter how many they had and how different they were. None of them would be made to feel how she had. “She sounds wonderful.” Caitrin said softly, not really knowing what to say. It was so nice to see that Nora had grown up in such a loving environment, with both her father and mother, though it was sad he had spent so little time with her mother.
Little Arthur seemed quite upset by the fact they were now moving, as he had been quite content with where he had been. Caitrin took him in her arms and held him tightly against her chest. He settled a little, but he was still squirming around in her arms, and sniffling slightly. She rocked him gently, trying to give a reassuring smile to Nora at the same time. She nodded as she agreed that they should take a look at the man in question. Arthur in her arms, she followed Nora into the house.
When they arrived in the kitchens, the man appeared to be seizing up, and Caitrin just found herself staring at him. She had no idea what to do, or how she could help. She just made potions and messed with herbs, she was no good with this kind of thing. Arthur was fussing again so she whispered to him softly and rocked him as well, trying to get him to settle, that was the last thing that was needed right now, “What can I do to help?” She asked Nora, as she had no idea what could have caused the man to seize up like this. It seemed similar to a reaction to hemlock that Caitrin had once been told about by her nurse, but that was impossible, who would want to poison a servant?

“She sounds wonderful.” Caitrin said softly, and Nora smiled a little fondly remembering her mother and what she was like. "She was," Nora commented softly.
Though, Nora was preoccupied with going to see Matthew, she did notice that little Arthur did get upset with being moved from his spot on the blanket. But after a few moments in his mother's arms, he settled down.
“What can I do to help?” She asked Nora, and Nora was once again grateful to Caitrin for her kindness and generosity. The only thing she could think of doing now is to move Matthew to a bed, before getting someone (or Caitrin, if she was comfortable) to check him over.
"Maybe you could help us move him to somewhere more comfortable and maybe -- if you are comfortable -- check him to over to see what might be wrong." She did not want to impose on Caitrin as she knew that her knowledge was not as in-depth as one of a physician. But she trusted her to try her best to help the man, just like she did with her father. And maybe she knew what might have caused Matthew to be ill like this. For it was most strange as Matthew was never ill.
Not even when there was sickness sweeping through the place, everyone seemed to get symptoms of it. But not Matthew, even though he is not young. He just seemed to always be in good health.
Once Nora waited for Caitrin's response, she asked Isabel to grab one side of Matthew. Then realizing that Arthur was still in Caitrin's arms, she asked gently, "Would you like me to take Arthur while you help Isabel with Matthew? Or would you like to follow us and help get the bed ready for him?"

Caitrin wisely decided to leave the topic of Nora’s mother there, because she suspected that it was quite a raw topic, given that her father was dying as well. Caitrin knew she would never have the same empathy and emotion if her father had died, yes, she had cried when her mother had passed away, but she had only been twelve, and it was more because her mother had always been there, but she didn’t really feel any emotion about it now. Truthfully, if her father did pass on, Caitrin would probably be relieved rather than upset. Her father had brought her nothing but misery since birth.
Though Caitrin did want to help, she wasn’t sure how she would be able to lift or move Matthew anywhere. Arthur was stirring in her arms, and starting to fuss. The baby was just tired, and Caitrin hadn’t really been expecting to stay this long with Nora. Caitrin began to bob her son up and down to try and calm him a little but he was starting to get upset, and though he was usually such a quiet baby he did have his moments. She just looked on helplessly at Nora, not wanting to point out the obvious, that she couldn’t move Matthew because of her son, but perhaps she had already realised that.
She felt a little put out that Nora was suggesting for Caitrin to take Matthew, rather than herself. It struck her as a little odd but she shook her head, “I’ll take Arthur, and help get the bed ready for Matthew.” If Caitrin could help Matthew then of course she would. She bobbed Arthur up and down who gave a little protesting cry at his mother as they began to move out of the room.

Nora watched as Cait looked helplessly at Nora, realizing that Caitrin could not move Matthew seeing as she had Arthur with her and he had just started to fuss. She felt silly suggesting such a thing, but it was only because the whole situation had made her feel frazzled and overwhelmed.
Caitrin shook her head, “I’ll take Arthur, and help get the bed ready for Matthew.” Before she started bobbing Arthur up and down to settle him. "Of course, that would make sense," Nora admitted before she told Caitrin where the nearest spare bedroom was. "Just follow the hallway down, turn left and you should come across a door to the right which is a spare bedroom." With that being taken care of, Nora took the other side of Matthew and began lifting him up, along with Isabel, to take him to the bedroom.
It took a little bit of time to carry him, seeing as all the other servants had been allowed to go to the markets to purchase some produce, leaving only Isabel, the cook (who was busy) and Matthew at the house. Nora wished that she hadn't allowed them because then they could have helped carried him to the bed. Instead it was left to her and her maid to do so.
Finally, they arrived to the room and Caitrin was there waiting....

Arthur wasn’t quietening in her arms, but she wasn’t quite sure what was wrong with him. Perhaps he sensed the sudden change in the mood, and was adding his voice to the panic, or as so to speak. Caitrin just continued to bob him up and down, whispering at him to hush, and that she was there for him and he was safe. It was more than she could say for the man who was currently writhing on the floor. She felt so helpless and just confused, why was all this happening now to her friend? She paused before nodding at Nora, and she then had the initiative to actually go to the room in question and help to sort it out for Matthews arrival. She would be doing this on her own of course, the rest of Nora’s servants were out for the day.
Caitrin looked down at the baby in her arms who was whimpering softly an looking up at his mother expectantly. She had no idea what he wanted, so she remained quite still to try and figure out what was wrong with him. When that didn’t work she began to get the bed ready, which was awkward as she was holding Arthur with one of her arms and sorting out the bed with the other. The bed-sheets were pulled back so they could just put Matthew into bed, but Caitrin felt quite uneasy about the whole thing. This couldn’t be a sickness, if it was then all the servants, and Nora herself should have fallen ill with whatever this illness was. Caitrin looked up as Nora and the cook began to bring Matthew in and she looked over the man almost instantly. She wanted to help him so much, but she had no idea how to. As she’d thought before, this could have something to do with hemlock, but what would anyone have against Matthew enough to poison him?

Nora felt so guilty for asking for Caitrin's help her seeing as she had Arthur to care for since he started grizzling. But since there was no one else in the house, she had no one else to help her. Carefully, Nora and her maid Isabel did their best to carry Matthew to the bed chambers. It was hard seeing as he weight what to Nora felt like a ton, but they did their best. Eventually they made it to the chambers where Caitrin had pulled the sheets back as best she could since she was holding Arthur close to her, comforting him since he was unsettled. Nora instructed Isabel to lift him onto the bed slowly on one end of his shoulder, while Nora held the other side. And they finally had him on the bed. She looked back towards Caitrin and could tell that she was feeling uneasy about the whole situation and at a loss. And Nora could understand this feeling, she felt the same. But she knew she had to take control of the situation.
"Isabel," Nora ordered her maid gently, "Why don't you fetch us some water and towels so we can try and cool down his fever." Isabel quickly bobbed before rushing out of the chambers, heading straight to the kitchen.
Leaving nothing for her to do but look back at her friend and ask her, "What do you think caused this?" Nora knew that her friend was no physician, but she had knowledge of herbs and something about what Isabel said about the wine struck a cord in her mind.

The baby was still sniffling in his mother’s arms, and Caitrin tried to soothe him, bobbing him up and down as the man, Matthew, was laid out on the bed. Caitrin’s eyes ran over the man, and she bit her lip, trying to stay calm. If Arthur could feel her agitation, there was every possibility that he just wouldn’t settle down. It wasn’t like him, but neither was it unheard of, and that was the last thing everyone here needed right now. Mercifully, the child did settle a little, but Caitrin didn’t relax just yet, she knew how changeable a babies mood could be; more so with Esmae, but still, she hadn’t taken all the Archer charm from her brother in the womb. She held him close to her, checking that he was still warm enough, and that nothing was physically wrong with him. She suspected he was just tired.
Caitrin watched the maid scarper off, and took it as her cue to move closer towards the bed to get a better look at the man. These were similar symptoms to the ones that Nora’s own father had been having, but these were so much more violent, and quick, almost as if it had grabbed his life quicker. She shuddered a little, not really wanting to believe her own suspicions about the matter in hand, but she couldn’t think f anything else. “Nora, this is the same thing your father is suffering from.” She looked over the man again, not wanting to get too close, as she held Arthur away from Matthew’s general direction. She might care for this man, but her son came first. “If it was a fever it would not have grasped him this quickly.” She said with an air of certainty, and she bit her lip, almost wishing she was wrong.

Noticing how unsettled little Arthur was feeling, Nora quickly went to the wardrobe and searched for a basket to place him in or something to amuse him while Caitrin helped Nora get Matthew settled. Nora felt extremely guilty knowing that Caitrin had a little babe to take care of, but she had no one else she could trust. She knew she could trust Caitrin explicitly. Nora sighed relieved when she finds a basket, the perfect size for little Arthur and a little teddy bear. Grabbing them, she placed the basket down on the floor and hands the teddy bear to Arthur, which he readily snatches from her. "You can place Arthur in the basket while we get Matthew settled if you want?" Nora asked her friend gently, not wanting to to put pressure on her by telling her want to do, after all she was a mother and Nora was not and she knows Arthur best.
“Nora, this is the same thing your father is suffering from.” Caitrin told her with a serious look upon her face as she looked over the man again, standing slightly away from him. Nora nodded her head, solemn, she knew Caitrin was right and the thought scared her. “If it was a fever it would not have grasped him this quickly.” She said with an air of certainty, and she bit her lip, and Nora knew that her friend was right.
"What do you think would cause someone to get these symptoms? Is it contagious, do you think?" Nora hoped that it was not contagious seeing as loads of people could be at risk, including Caitrin and her son. But the more she thought, the more she realized that it did not look to be. Her father was the only one who managed to be sick, until Matthew that is. And yet, her father started to become really ill weeks ago.

Caitrin began to rock Arthur gently, and pace around the corner of the room as Nora and the maid helped to get the man settled in the bed. She kissed the side of his head, and couldn’t understand why he wasn’t settling for her. Arthur was usually the one she could count on to settle; Esmae was normally the one causing a problem. Holding her son tightly, she rearranged his blankets and held him against her chest to warm him a little. The babe made a little cry at her, and began to settle a bit in her arms. His eyes began to fall lazily, and her reward was when his tiny lips formed a yawn, and she felt him relax into her. Caitrin had been that focussed on her son that she hadn’t noticed Nora bringing her a basket and a little toy for Arthur. Though the baby was slowly succumbing to sleep, he had enough strength to snatch the little toy from Nora. “Cheeky.” Caitrin scolded him softly, she probably would have been more forceful if she didn’t need him to fall asleep and settle. There were more important things right now than worrying that her baby son had snatched a toy rather than merely holding it. She was probably making a big deal out of nothing anyway. “I will, thank you.” Caitrin slowly began to lower herself so she could place Arthur into the basket as he began to nod off to sleep. She stayed crouched next to Arthur’s basket while he began to yawn an close his eyes; only standing up again once the baby had fallen asleep completely, with the stuffed toy in his hands.
The fact it could be contagious hadn’t even crossed Caitrin’s mind yet. Subconsciously she took a step back from the bed and bit her lip, unsure of what to do. No, it couldn’t be contagious or else Nora would be sick, and she would have already caught it wouldn’t she? Swallowing, Caitrin stepped back towards Matthew and leant down, listening to his breathing and then his pulse, neither were normal, though she couldn’t say why they weren’t normal. She could see he was struggling to breathe, and was showing no signs of coming round. “I don’t know, what has he eaten today? Has he had much to drink?” She looked round to Nora, “He might have taken something, knowingly or not, but this took him too quickly to be fever.

Though little Arthur looked incredibly tired, he managed to snatch the toy from Nora's hand. Nora laughed at the little babe, "You are indeed cheeky." Nora's attention was distracted from Arthur when Caitrin took up her offer “I will, thank you.” She told her, then lowered down and placed little Arthur in the basket. She stayed down by his side to watch him as he slowly closed his eyes and went to sleep. In the meanwhile, Nora stayed by Matthew's bedside, wondering how on earth this strong and able man could have fallen so sick so quickly.
Nora could not help but notice her friend's reaction to her question on whether the illness could be contagious. Nor did she miss the way she took a step back. Taking a huge swallow, Caitrin edged back towards Matthew, leaned down and began to listen to his breathing, then his pulse. Nora could tell that Caitrin's examination of Matthew was not going well.
“I don’t know, what has he eaten today? Has he had much to drink?” She asked her, before adding, “He might have taken something, knowingly or not, but this took him too quickly to be fever."
"I'm not sure what he has eaten today," Nora explained to her friend, "But around at this time of the day Matthew would check the wines before dinner to make sure they were adequate."

Caitrin was sure that Arthur would be fine during the time it took her to look over Matthew. It wasn’t like she couldn’t be parted from either of the twins for any given time, the fact she was here without Esmae proved that. However, she did know that she had a little bit of a complex where her children were concerned. She needed to know where they were, and that they were safe and sometimes it did fall into the category of over-protectiveness. She couldn’t help it, but Griff was helping her to calm a little in regards to her parenting but it would take time. She’d manage it though, she knew she would.
Brushing those thoughts from her mind, Caitrin continued to look over Matthew with a cautious look across her features. She wasn’t sure what to make of this situation, but it was making her incredibly wary. No disease she knew of took hold so quickly. Caitrin wasn’t quite sure what was going on, but she was incredibly nervous and she didn’t like what was going on. “Matthew?” She called softly, then again more forcefully, “Matthew can you hear me?” She squeezed his hand but didn’t get a reaction back. His breathing was still there but it was shallow.
The wine... Caitrin paused and then her blood ran cold. The wine! Her heart was pounding in her chest, “Nora, go and make sure no one goes near the wine.” Caitrin’s face had gone white and she felt like she finally understood what was going on. It was a long shot but it was the only thing she could think of. “I think there might be something in the wine, no disease I know of would have this effect so quickly.”

Nora watched anxiously as Caitrin called to Matthew and placed her hand in his to see if he could move. When nothing happened, Nora knew that it was bad, very bad indeed and the look upon Caitrin's face confirmed that. "He isn't going to make it is he?" Nora asked her friend, soberly. Feeling extremely sad and guilty for Matthew's condition, like it was somehow her fault. Like she could have prevented it
But that was nothing compared to what Caitrin told her quickly to get the wine. The wine! Of course! "Oh my!" was all Nora could get out before she muttered "I'll be back!" over her shoulder and ran towards the kitchens.
Her cousin. It had to have been her cousin and this confirmed her worst fears. That her cousin craving her father's wealth and position did everything in his power to get it. Now her father is dead and Matthew will likely be another victim to her cousin's evilness.
"Isabel," Nora called out as she reached the hallway to the kitchens, "Grab the wine and give it to me." Isabel looked at her, not understanding her meaning. "The wine that Matthew was testing before he collapsed," She further explained and Isabel quickly ran into the kitchen and moments later come back with the decanter, before handing it to Nora.
After she made it back to the room, she handed it to Caitrin, "Here it is," She told her, emotionless and numb. Like all of the emotions in her were stopped still, and Nora did not know if this was a blessing or a curse.
