He'd received a text around lunchtime from Cait, saying that she was currently moving her stuff in. At least she'd got their safely with her things, as he'd found out when he'd got home finally that evening and managed to go tumbling over a stray box in the hallway. "Trying to kill me already?" he called half laughing as he walked into where Cait was. Most of the things were in her room, there was always that one box that didn't end up there though.
Lucan dumped his briefcase on the kitchen table and took off his jacket. "You managed to get everything in then?" he said, shrugging off his blazer and loosening his tie. After a long day he finally felt free. He was also very hungry and now turned to Cait. "Now...what would you like for dinner? Either you can sample gourmet a la Aubert or head straight to option number two which is takeaway." he smirked. He didn't rate his cooking highly, but at least he could say it was edible. Heading over to the fridge, he pulled out some juice and poured himself some. Now that felt good, and some feel good music wouldn't go amiss right now either.

Lucan mirrored her sly smirk. "Oh I am sure that she won't even measure up to you when it comes to insults." he told her, "and like me, you will probably come to hate her within the first few moments of meeting her." Elaine wouldn't even have to say anything to know that Cait would not take to kindly to her.
Sir Arthur Aubert. Lucan knew that would stick with him for the rest of his days. "I'd be more than happy to teach him anything that he wants." he told her, "besides, by the way things are at the moment, it doesn't seem likely that im going to get to show them to my own children." No children had shown themselves yet and who knew what the future had in store for him and Camila. He looked over and smiled when Cait asked about Esmae, "You're quite happy there aren't you Ezzy." he looked down to her and kissed her head. Already she was turning into his fast favourite. He knew he shouldn't but it was a bit hard not to just fall in love with her. "I may have to tell Cam that she has some competition."
She had been engaged too? Well that was something they had in common. "More like I escaped" he chuckled, "I suppose that was a kind of blessing in disguise." he told her, "after all, you wouldn't have met Griff and brought Ezzy and Arthur into our lives." Ok he was so taken with Esmae that it made him all the more eager to have a child of his own.

"Hopefully not too soon" Luc commented, "Although when he's sober he's not that bad, so I would definatly go for that version."Griff was a laugh when he wasn't stumbling around and slurring. He was also a serial flirt, so Cait would have to beware. She'd soon find out herself anyway.
Lucan smirked and pushed the door closed to reveal the dartboard on the back of it with a picture of his stepmother attached. a few little holes where the darts had pierced through. "Not even that" he smirked, "Im sure she most likely has one of me somewhere." It wouldn't surprise him if Elaine chanted curses about him over her bubbling cauldron. The woman hated him to now end, always had and always would.
He sat himself down again and took a sip of his tea. "Right, I suppose i'd better give you this." he said, reaching for the bowl on the table that had a few objects in. Picking up a key he passed it to her. "Key to the front door, you're gonna need it."

"Im sorry to hear that" he gave her a weak smile when she explained that she'd been in hospital when she was younger. "Giving something back then, it sounds like you're quite a woman Caitrin, should I happen to break my leg or anything then i'll call for you."He gave a small wink.
Lucan smirked at the mention of Griff. "That's the thing, I don't know when he will turn up myself! He usually just shows up whenever he feels like it." He shrugged, "But yes, If he happens to turn up when i'm here and you're not then i'll definatly let you know." Not bad? Not bad? Clearly she hadn't met Griff. "Hmmm, clearly you need the Aubert experiance. It's not pleasant." he grinned. Thankfully Lucan could hold his drink. “But as long as you’re the man to turn to with DIY, I can help heal human beings, but give me a plug socket to fix and I’d probably blow my own fingers off.”
Lucan laughed along with her at this. "I try my best." he shrugged, "Sometimes I fail along the way and other times I manage to succeed." Interrupted by the buzz of his iphone on the table he picked it up, sighing as he saw the caller ID. "Sorry, I just need to take this." he apologised and stood up, walking out into the hallway. "Elaine! How great to hear from you." he said with mock cheer. His step mother now sternly yelling something or other at him down the end of the phone. He wasn't really paying attention in all honestly. "Can I call you back?" he asked, hearing the word 'no' very clearly before she carried on, "Well that's a shame but I have to go, love you too!" he made his goodbye more mocking just to annoy her some more and hung up. There was no way he wanted a conversation with Elaine - just trying to start one with her was enough of a chore.
Walking back in he grinned at Cait, "Sorry about that" he held up the phone. "Stepmother." he confirmed.

Lucan had almost passed out when he had been told that his stepmother was waiting for him in the solar. It was words that he did not want to hear, let alone hearing them without any knowledge of her visit. He knew why she had come, and unfortunatly it was too late to alert his brother about it. He'd found her standing in the solar looking just as disapproving as the day he'd left for Camelot. She had aged a little, but not enough to become unrecognisable. "Lucan" she gave a stiff nod on seeing him. Her glare now a permanent fixure on her face. Nothing had changed then. "Elaine" he greeted her politely, "I trust their is a good reason for you to be standing in my solar with that beautiful face of yours." Lucan couldn't help it, he was just as angry that she was here as much as she was herself.
"I have come to see my son, his new wife and grandchildren, you should at least show me some respect - I brought you up after all." She raised her chin slightly, glaring all the more at him. "and what do I find? What am I to tell your father and Uncle when I return."
He ignored her last leer at him and reamained calm. "Well perhaps you should go now and tell them of what a dissapointment you found me as. Im sure father will be happy about that, but my Uncle won't agree." He smiled sweetly, "I take it that you haven't informed Griff that you'd be visiting?" Of course she hadn't. Why should she.
Elaine looked around the room. "This is a very dismal looking room Lucan, you should consider adding more light to make it look a little justifiable." Ok that was it, "Well then, perhaps when you leave it, it shall instantly brighten" he sighed happily, "Now as I asked earlier - I take it that Griff doesn't know you're here." Elaine now sighed, "What that boy has put us through, and now this! It's like he wants to drag your father's name through the mud! Both of you!"
Lucan said nothing for a while, "I'll have to speak with Griff before I can let you see him." he told her, "After all - I don't think he'd be too pleased if..." She cut him off. "You will take me to see my son now, and you will show me the respect you are supposed to bestow on a lady. Not only am I your stepmother but I am also a lady. You are a Knight, and if I am correct, it is required of you to be as chivelrous as possible." What the..? What did she know of chivalry and being a Knight? It seemed he had no choice in the matter, as a full blown argument would just attract the attention of the servants. Something that he didn't want at this moment. He had no option, but to take her to the de Archer estate.
When the pair finally arrived sometime later, Lucan already had a bad feeling about this. It was just like his father's visit all over again. "Could you please tell my brother that Im here...as is the woman who calls herself his mother." he told the servant, shooting a glare at Elaine and waiting as the servant disappered.

Lucan smiled at this, Caitrin seemed so passionate about her job and that was something that he liked to hear. "Any particular reason why? Or did you just know that the job was meant for you when you were younger?" he asked. Most children always dreamed and grew up taking their dream job. When Lucan was younger he'd wanted to be a pilot, but for now he was stuck in a dead end job just to get by before he could even consider taking on something like that. Still, there was always hope.
Cait seemed nice enough so he didn't see why she couldn't stay for a while longer, only if she wanted to that was. It would be nice to get to know her before she actually moved in. "Why don't you stay for a while if you want? It would be nice to actually have someone to now talk to instead of sitting here trying to figure out this darn crossword" he chuckled, "take a seat and i'll make you another tea if you want?"
Trekking into the kitchen, he flicked the kettle on again. "You probably will find that most of the time that im home, im either arguing with my father on the phone or trying to fix something." he held up the radio that was currently in pieces. "Thanks to my drunken oath of a brother he managed to destroy my radio, so it's now up to me to try and get it back to its former glory. Last week it was radiator leak - who knows what will be next" he rolled his eyes. Luc grabbed the biscuit tin and popped it on the coffee table in front of Cait. "Help yourself, this flat is just as much yours as it is mine now."

Why Griff had called Luc down to the tavern at such an untimely hour of the evening was beyond him. For a start he hadn't seen his brother for a short time because everything had been so up in the air. He'd just let Griff get on with his life and if he screwed up then it was of his own doing. There was no doubt his father would be writing to him to see
He sat in the corner away from anyone else, said hello to a few locals and kept himself to himself until his brother arrived. He needed a good drink and was more than happy when his ale arrived along with Griffs. If his brother didn't get here soon he'd do the strange thing of drinking it for him.
Finally he saw Griff enter and beckoned him over, smiling gratefully as he approached him. "How are you doing?" he asked as his brother took a seat, "It's been a while since i've seen you." It was, Luc had been busy and Griff? Well to be honest if he knew his brother that well he knew exactly what had been going on, most of it - which he hoped Griff wouldn't go into too much detail about.

Luc finally sat down, drink in hand and looked at the floor as Griff went on about his help and where he would be without him. He gave a small snort, "I very much doubt that - you've always been the one who would pick himself back up again." No, Griff wouldn't be in a ditch, he would've carried on until he'd found an inn or something. "I hope you're right." Feeling his brother's arm around his shoulder he smiled weakly. For once things were actually working out for them.
What made Lucan even more at ease what that he had Griff's backing that he'd support him. He'd never thought they'd even be this close, when they were children they always spent their days apart - with the exception of suppers and other occasions that brought them both together, but Luc had never thought they'd grow closer than they already weren't. "Thanks Griff" he smiled, "I just...I need someone here to actually tell me it's all going to work out - I know Allard is here and all, but he'll be going to Glouchedon to help out father soon, and I just..." he scratched the back of his head, "I just need some help actually going through this without messing things up."
He looked to Griff sincerely, "I love Camila too much - sometimes I wonder if it's even possible to love her as much as I can, and the thought of marrying her and making her my wife, geez even spending the rest of my life with her..." he trailed off, "I guess...I guess it scares me a little..." he chuckled slightly, trying to shake off how he was feeling that that moment.

He ran his hands down his face. "Im sorry, I shouldn't have snapped at you." he apologised, "But I don't need any advice". He walked over to where the wine jug had been placed on the table and poured himself another drink. Luc seemed to be drinking more than Griff was this evening, which was certainly a turn as usually Griff couldn't say no to anything alcoholic.
"I guess everything's just all hit me at once now..." he sighed, "It's actually real, im getting married, I have to provide for another person. Think I can pull that off?" he asked almost pathetically. Would he even survive the wedding without passing out or suddenly have one of his 'woman' traits hit him unexpectedly? What would Cam think? There was no way that he was going to admit to his Uncle that this of all things, was to be the most scariest thing he'd ever encountered.
"If there's one thing I need from you it's this. Support" he told him honestly, "You're the only person I really have to talk about this Griff, so jokes aside - will you do that for me?"

Despite rising at stupid o'clock in the morning to write to his father and uncle about the wedding the day before, Lucan felt wide awake, not knowing whether it was because all the fuss of the wedding had given him extra energy, or the fact that he hadn't really slept that night was the other. Either way he was sat in Allard's study writing about certain matters, before he would have to go off to training for the day. That would annoy Camila when she eventually woke up, he'd left her sleeping upstairs - not wanting to wake her. She looked perfect, and now she was his wife. That was what Lucan now had to see her as. Not his betrothed, not the girl he'd fallen for after being told she was a complete maneater, but his wife.
Lucan was just contemplating slamming his forehead against the desk out of disbelief when a servant appeared at the door. "Sorry for interrupting my lord, but I wondered if you wanted something to eat?" he asked. Lucan shook his head. "No thankyou Thomas, but thankyou for asking all the same." Thomas nodded and left Lucan to his own devices. It was now the Knight sat back in his chair and looked out of the window at the ever growing sun that was rising across the sky. He wished he had Griff here right now, some encouragement that he would not make the world's worst husband would be nice. Then again Griff's words of encouragement usually came in the form of a drink, along with some inappropriate 'advice'. Mind you, he wouldn't have been able to get through the day before without him.
Sealing the letter, he called Thomas back in and gave it to him. He knew that Allard would be the one to write back on behalf of his father - the words 'heir' would now dominate most of the content written in reply, no pressure at all... Lucan would indeed love a son, but already his father was doubting him and his future role within the estate - Lucan knew he wasn't getting any younger, and that time was ticking - tick tock...
He almost wished he hadn't been the first born, knowing the sacrifices he'd have to make just to ensure that his family name still lived on. That could all stop with him and Camila. What if they were unable to have children? Corenous would be even more disappointed in him then. He ran his hands down his face and rested his head back against the chair, closing his eyes. He should be contemplating getting ready soon, but a few more minutes to himself wouldn't do any harm. He was certainly going to need them.

Trust Griff to come out with something that would make him feel uncomfortable about the whole situation. Mind you - he probably wanted to make some kind of joke out of it, and that Lucan wasn't going to let him do.
"Because if there's a problem, you know, with you...I might be able to help, what with my experience."
"There is no problem!" Lucan snapped at him, already annoyed that his brother was now delving deeper as to why he hadn't taken a total 'Griff' approach in this relationship. Why hadn't he? Because Lucan was a gentleman that was why, and unlike Griff - he wasn't about to bend the rules of chivalry just for an evening. "And your experiance is probably best left unsaid, this is something i'm standing my ground for Griff - now shut up and drink your wine before I actually feel the need to say something i'll regret."
He had no idea why he was gettng so angry about this, most likely because he was half scared to death about the fact that it wouldn't be long before he was married. There was also the detail about whether he'd be a rubbish husband or not. Luc got up and walked to the window, staring out at nothing in particular, he just didn't want to suddenly flood his brother with all the feelings that were now whizzing around his mind.

There were many words to sum Elaine Aubert up, but most of them were certainly not to be said out loud. "There are children present so I can't repeat some of the words to describe what she is like" he smirked knowingly, "but in a nutshell, she's the wicked stepmother." Yup - that summed Elaine up just fine. "The feelings were share between us are mutual." So Griff didn't say a lot about her either - Luc wasn't surprised. "Griff isn't exactly close to her" he stated, "and no, she can't control your lives anyway" he agreed when Cait said that Elaine couldn't do anything. Elaine would never have control over him and Griff, no matter how much she wanted it and tried.
“Perhaps Arthur will take after your example as a knight.”Lucan smiled warmly at this, "Sir Arthur Aubert - I quite like that." he nodded in approval, "and I would be more than glad to help him succeed, should he ever want to take that path." Should Lucan ever have a son himself, that would certainly be something he would be teaching him.
Now Cait was asking about his 'betrothal' that thankfully hadn't been. "Before I came here, I was to be betrothed to a girl called Maria Howard, thankfully I managed to escape from that before anything else could proceed further - needless to say, my father wasn't too happy about it." he explained. He and Griff always joked about that disaterous betrothal - probably because she was not exactly the best choice of wife that Corenous could have chosen for him - even Griff had agreed on that.

"Oh I'm sure we'll have that in common. Elaine is VERY hard person to take to." Lucan rolled his eyes. Yes, heads would certainly roll when the time came for Elaine to meet her new grandchildren, and Lucan could see that happening very soon. He looked down at Esmae all snug and stroked her nose lightly with his finger. It was times like this that he wished his mother was alive - she would have been good at giving him advice when it came down to marriage and children. But he would now have to stand alone on that matter and learn for himself. He had already accepted that he would never have a mother figure in his life again.
"Whether she may like it or not, she's got to accept it - but believe me it will be no big loss of she chooses to cut ties - but I doubt that would happen. If she says anything to you and Griff that is unfair, then i'll be having words. After all, should my father die then it is up to me about what her future holds." As much as it was satifying about sending Elaine away from the estate with some money - Lucan was not like that. Never the less it was amusing.
Lucan looked to Cait at the mention of spoiling Esmae and Arthur and gave a mocking look of shock. "Me? Spoil them? Never!" he smirked, "although I suppose I can teach them a few trick with sharp and pointy things." Lucan stood up, shifting Esmae onto his shoulder - her protesting before settling her head on his shoulder. "Alright don't kill me!" he told her softly, "How about we go and look out of the window while your mother feeds your brother?" Giving a small wink at Cait, he took Esame over to the window and sat there with her to give Caitrin some privacy.
"My mother was so set against me having this life." He told Caitrin, "She would have much preferred me to have thrown myself into lessons with my tutor instead of hacking away at a tree with a wooden sword. Seems like that's the only time that my father's influence was far greater than hers." he chuckled, "Although his opinion changed when he decided that a betrothal was a far better option."

She had turned on everyone. Yes - and the more he thought of that the more it made him angry. He stood up slowly in his cell and then with some fury, kicked the straw on the floor. With both hands pressed against the cell wall, he leant against them with his forehead pressed against the cold stone. "If we ever come out of this alive, I'll kill her - her and all of her men that she hides behind." he growled.
He turned his head slightly to look at Caitrin. "It's not luck." he stated, "It's love, just like what you hold for my brother." Oh yes, it was obvious even in a dimly lit cell that Caitrin still carried a torch for Griff, yet where he was, was a mystery to both of them. "You can tell me otherwise all you like, but I can see it." Lucan shot a weak smile at her.
A small laugh escaped him, and was replaced with the pain in his ribs, "and here was me thinking you preferred her to me...I suppose I should feel honoured." he replied turning around and now leaning back against the wall.
There was silence for a few moments before Luc decided to break it. "I know...that you don't think highly of me, even I don't think highly of me - but i'm not all bad..." he told her softly, "and no matter what you may think, I don't hate you - even though it may seem like I did, I never have." he paused, "So you can hate me all you want, but I just thought now might be the best time to run that by you - y'know...before my head ends up on that block." he said with some kind of chuckle added, as though he were having a private joke with himself.

“Accountancy sounds... fun?” Lucan gave a small snort at this. "Never thought i'd here those two words in the same sentance - but I suppose it's keeping me on my toes for now." He couldn't really complain, he'd spent years aiming for something that would actually get him by with life. "As im sure your job is too?" he questioned and raised an eyebrow slightly. He knew where to go if he ever broke a bone.
Friday. Blimey she was keen! Obviously Lucan had no objections to this and was open for Caitrin doing anything she wished. This could be her flat too after all. "Friday is fine by me, i'll have to leave the key with you though because i'll be calculating numbers at a very nice desk, but you can call me if you need anything." he told her. In all honesty he'd much rather be sat at home watching re-runs of Friends, but that wasn't going to happen.
She liked Horrible Histories?! "It's a guilty pleasure" he smirked, "That's what happens when your father decides he wants a split personality." the navy must have led Captain Cornous Aubert to becoming as barmy as he could be now - his favourite film was Muppet Treasure Island and he would think he was a pirate rather than a retired navy captain. Had Luc have stayed at home then he would've been driven insane too most likely. His younger brother Griff? well, lord knows how he had coped growing up. On some days Corneous could be a total and typical gentleman of the manour, yet other days he could sway and that would set him off. "and i'll admit now that I know most of the songs off by heart" he admitted, scratching the back of his neck awkwardly.

Lucan smiled as Griff commented about how well he looked. In all truth Lucan hadn't felt this much alive in years, it was Camila though - all down to Camila and her ways. Everything right down to her smile made him happy. He merely nodded and looked to both Griff and Caitrin. "And how are you both?" he asked. Cait most likely wouldn't answer and Griff would come out with something along the lines of 'surviving'.
“Is Camila here already?”
Lucan nodded at this, "Just arrived some minutes ago actually, she's in the solar with Allard." He was glad that he had his Uncle's approval of Camila - he'd been dreading to think that this would all go wrong, but if Allard approved then what did he have to lose? Yes there was still the subject of his father and Elaine (well he really didn't care about Elaine but his father? Yes he did.) but none of that mattered right now. He had everyone who he cared about right there, even Caitrin - and he couldn't be any happier.
"Right..." he turned back to his brother and Cait, "Shall we go through? Camila and Allard are waiting."

Well at least they had the same understanding about their father, as his brother was now laughing. "We'll just see about that" Lucan smirked at his brothers words. He wouldn't regret it, Griff was his brother after all and ok he could sometimes be a total pain in the butt. At the end of the day they were family.
“I’m happy for you, I really, really am. Slightly concerned for her though...”
Lucan gave a small chuckle. "You and me both." He was more concerned for Camila meeting the whole family. He had no idea what his father and Elaine would be like when they were introduced to her. Now Griff was asking very personal questions and Lucan rolled his eyes. Trust Griff to come out with something like that. Then again he hadn't expected any less.
"Im so pleased that you think so highly of me" Lucan sat back and shot a glance at his brother, "and no, to answer your question."

He chuckled at Arthur's words. By the amount of papers, it certainly looked as though it would indeed take a year for Arthur to get through them. "There is a thing called a 'break' though sire, you should take one before you keel over from a papercut." he smirked. Arthur knew that he was joking but he seriously did need a break. Lucan had barely seen him lately and he looked a little pre-occupied.
Lucan took the seat that Arthur was now offering and made himself comfortable, even though at this time he felt so much more fidigty. He guessed that this was because he was nervous about what Arthur would say to all of this."Now, what is it that has brought you here?"
"Well..." he began and shifted slightly, "I...er...Well..." How the hell had he even proposed?! If he couldn't tell Arthur that he was getting married then the wedding would certainly be pathetic. "Im getting married." he shrugged, as though it was no big deal. "I thought it would be wise to tell you, after all you'd certainly raise questions if I turn up at court one day with my wife." He chuckled slightly, imagining the look on Arthur's face if he actually did that.

Ah, so he had been right then. It was lucky that she had been able to find a job straight away - at least she'd had one area covered without having the worry of looking for a place and a job at the same time. "I seeeee" he nodded in approval, "At least you had that when you came out of University." Lucan put down his cup as she asked what he'd studied. "Accountancy" he answered, "I work in a firm in central London - nothing exciting" he smirked.
He was glad that both the room and bathroom were to her liking - and with her now asking when she could move in, Lucan was only too pleased that she actually wanted to. "As soon as you're ready" he told her, "I just need to let the landlord know that there's two of us sharing again and not just one, and then you can move in whenever you like." Thank goodness! At least he didn't appear to have a flatmate who was as mad as a box of cats. From this first meeting it seemed as though they were going to get along just fine, and that was enough for Lucan to go by.
“Well, that’s if you want me to move in of course.”
"Why wouldn't I?" he gave her a look, she seemed to be - after all - the only decent tenant he'd stumbled upon so far. If he was to say no (which was unlikely) then he knew he wouldn't get as good as Cait. "If you love Horrible Histories and The Beatles, then that's good enough for me" he teased.
