He didn't move at first at the sound, not really seeing a reason to. It was probably either Morgana and Morgause coming back to torment him some more or the guards coming to finally haul him out to the courtyard. The part he loathed most was that he would die in humilation most likely, on his knees. He would fight if he could, but he wouldn't accomplish much by it and he knew it.
Uther was indeed trying to keep still, not that he could move much anyway. The manacles on his wrists saw to that. Even so, when the form materialized, he lunged, blind in his annoyance and rage for a moment's time. He had to settle after a moment, chest heaving, wrists stinging from the strain against the metal. He glared at her, knowing she was gloating greatly in all of this, that she was taking great delight in his suffering.
"I might have expected you to take part in mocking and tormenting me. You, of all people, must be happy as can be to see me down here. I think you will see though that Morgana will be little better. I hightly doubt she will play your annoying games. And I can anticipate one other thing that must be on your mind at the moment. If you expect I'll beg you for help, it will not happen. I will die first!!! I will NEVER beg ANYONE for ANYTHING!"The loudness of his voice rose to a full yell as he vented his anger at her. If he was to die, so be it. He was far too proud to ever beg, no matter what the circumstances.

Uther saw the expression on Arthur's face that he expected. Surprise, shock, followed by a lot of anger. He had anticipated this, and only wished Arthur could see his own foolishness and agree to stay and reclaim his title so he wouldn't have to deal with this anymore. He had half a mind to throw Arthur in the dungeon or flog him, but nothing would stop his intentions and the king knew it.
Uther sighed and gave a nod. Angry as he was, there was no reason to subject small children to an intense argument.
"Very well, send them out. No one is leaving until our discussion is finished, but i see no reason to subject them to it." I have no ill will for the children anyway, only for you and the woman who caused you to do this. I still often find myself hoping that this is an enchantment, that somehow a way may still exist to break it. But it appears it is not, that it's just what you wanted."
Uther waited for the children to be sent out and then told Arthur"You may speak."

"By all rights, I ought to have you both executed for treason since you abandoned your kingdom. You're lucky I'm at least thinking more clearly than that."Uther remarked.
He had thought about it many times during their absence. He could easily punish Arthur and the girl both harshly, but he did not want to see his son die. He could not bear the thought of watching such a spectacle. Deep inside, he knew he was fighting a losing battle. They would return when he died and take the throne, or try to. He knew exactly how it was going to end, too, now that things had changed.
"I will warn you that you that I know what your intention is. You wish to return to Camelot after I have passed. But you will face a battle if you return to take the throne after my death. You forced me to acknowledge a truth that has remained hiden, one I would rather have taken to my grave, and to make Morgana my heir. This is a great shame for both myself and all of Camelot. We are already recieving scorn and mockery, and once I am gone, it will extend to Morgana. Can you live with yourself if Camelot is conquered because the other kings will not accept Morgana as queen? That is what you are condemning us to!
Uther's eyes blazed with fury. He knew what Camelot's future held without Arthur, and it was a bleak one. Why could the prince not see that? He could not prevent them leaving again, and would not lift a hand to kill Arthur, but he could forbid them ever returning if Arthur did not see reason.

Uther was alone now, the girl having brought the food and left. He would eat nothing. If he starved, then so be it. He had no illusions he'd live very long as it was. Morgana seemed to be keeping him alive just to torture him, but it did not matter. Whether he died at the point of a sword from hours of torture, she'd see him dead and then probably string him up a barbarian would, a disgusting trophy of her conquer.
His tunic hid a criscross of whip marks accross his back, and other areas of flesh bore burns and bruises. His tongue was swollen and painful because he'd bitten through it more than once rather than cry like a coward. He was cold and tired, and his body ached, both from the abuse and the pain of his aged bones.
Uther was a bit edgy, knowing that he'd likely soon have another visitor, one who just wanted to gloat and mock how pathetic he looked and further humiliate him. He fully expected Nimueh to offer to help, but he'd never accept her twisted "prices". She'd just attempt to use this to bring him under her control and he would not have it.

Uther just wish Arthur could understand how complicated the lives of royalty were. Marriage for peasants was able to be about love, they didn't have anything to worry about. But a man in such a high position as Arthur's could not worry only about his own life. He had to make such moves wisely and carefully, whether he felt love for his eventual bride or not. Duty to the kingdom and gaining power, wealth and influence among other kingdoms had to be taken into consideration before anything else. It wasn't as though he wanted Arthur to be unhappy, but he had to think about Camelot more. Why didn't his son understand?
"You make things very complicated. Children of royalty can be accepted only with the proper heritage from both parents...that is not my view, it is the council's. Obviously, the king's word is law, but he will be subject to much grumbling and mocking from the people and the rulers of other kingdoms if his wife and children are not fully of royal birth. You know I want you to be happy, I've always wanted that. But I cannot allow myself to be happy unless I know that the kingdom is in good hands. I know how it could damage the chances of Camelot in gaining alliances and winning the favor of other nations to prevent war. I can only see that life is a lot more complicated for a prince than a peasant, and that sometimes, one's own feelings must be put aside for a greater good. I am unhappy that no agreement can be reached, but I cannot adopt views that may put the entire kingdom at risk."

He had searched for them for some time, always hopeful that he would be able to find Arthur and bring him home. He had been furious at the boy's folly and annoyed that he hadn't been able to make him see the error of his ways and that he had left Camelot without an heir. He had hoped to take his secret about Morgana to the grave with him, but eventually, he'd felt he had little choice but to make her his heir. Camelot could not be without an heir, and he could not allow Arthur's actions to go unpunished.
Arthur still looked strong and healthy, but decidedly not like the royalty he was raised as, which was not surprising to Uther. Getting him back here had been delicate work; they were beyond his borders, but he'd made an agreement with the king of that land to be able to send men without it being retaliated against as an act of war. He knew he could not force Arthur to stay, but he had wanted to speak to him again, to make all his feelings accumulated during Arthur's absence known. Secretly, he was happy that Arthur was alive and well, but his pain and anger overshadowed any of that right now.
"I still cannot believe you were foolish enough to do this! You threw everything away and left your kingdom without an heir. I had to bring you back, had to ensure that you faced me when you were found. I cannot forgive you for this, for turning your back on everything for the sake of a peasant girl!"the king said.

He was still in a state of shock about what had taken place today. Morgana and her sister had obtained the Cup of Life and had moved against both him and all of Camelot. He would have had no choice but to kill her, except that he and his men were powerless against a horde of immortal knights. Camelot had been overwhelmed. Morgana obviously heard him when he had spokent o Gaius as he lay dying. She had told everyone the truth and had forced Geoffrey to make *her* queen and had forced Uther to his knees.
Now he was in his own dungeons, still wearing trousers and a tunic but his royal garments and the symbols of his power-the pendant and the crown-gone. The symbol of his house was gone from the battlements replaced with Morgana's blood guard. A number of his knights still lived, but they could not hope to destroy Morgana's immortal force on their own, either.
He raged, preferring death to surrender, but he knew that was his likely fate. Arthur was his only hope now. Morgana and the others seemed to believe Arthur was dead, and Uther could only hope not. But what could one man, even one as strong as Arthur, possibly do against such a mass?
He would rather face death than submission, but he was still humiliated. A man such as himself should die in battle, fighting to his last breath, rather than bound and immobile, unable to even defend himself. He could only allow himself to hope that somehow, some way, Arthur might be able to rescue him and they could flee the kingdom until they could gather the stregnth to fight back. Uther had conquered once, and he would conquer again if it was in his power. He wondered, though, if he could bring himself to kill his daughter. If he was forced to in battle, fine. But he hoped she would flee of her own accord, staying away from Camelot and leaving him without the task of executing her.

Uther was of course unaware of the real truth or of Delilah's intentions for him. He would have her killed if he found out what she had done and the lies she had told. But for now, everything seemed in order and he had no reason to suspect she was hiding so much from him. He watched as she came forward, seeing no hint of her true face about her. He waited until she had bowed, and then he started to speak.
"I again extend apologies that your rightful title was not bestowed years ago. ALthough your husband has sadly passed on, you are still deserving of the title gained in marriage to him. it is a wrong that I now make right."He reached out a hand to touch her shoulder."You will henceforth be known as Lady Delilah."

Uther had expected her to reply as she did. It was something they would never agree on. It was something that he knew deep inside was the truth, but he had blinded himself to it, refused to consider that it might be possible he was wrong. He had rationalized and thought and got things so twisted in his mind that he couldn't accept anyone else's view but his own as truth. He listened, but tried to will himself not to become too infuriated, something that was generally a losing battle. He was not one to hide his feelings.
"I understand all too well, I know what I have seen, what I have experienced" he growled."I attack because I do understand."
Uther was getting annoyed about her seeming references to harming Gaius."Just leave him alone. I sicken of you trying to take everything from me." he snapped
He was further displeased by the way she seemed to be almost teasing him in a way...was she trying to come on to him? He wished he knew her mind better, as it was very puzzling. She loathed him, yet she was trying to...seduce him? He hated that she was leaning on his bed and he couldn't even call the guards to get rid of her.
"I will die before I bow to anyone!"came the reply. Uther would never humiliate himself in that way, no matter what.

There's speculation since Morgause and Morgana turn Cenred and his guys immortal that maybe the end will be a fight with Arthur and Cenred...I wonder if he'd kill one of the girls. I doubt it will be Morgana, she still has a big part in the legends. Nothing's for sure though. New trailer for both eps www.youtube.com/watch?v=I3Qr2y2q9JQ&feature=player_embedded

Uther had not let himself get too complacent, he knew that he could not. Still, the chaos outside was rather unexpected and jarring. It had been a relatively quiet time for Camelot with the exception of the fact that they still did not know what had become of Morgana and had not stopped searching for her. The city had been badly damaged by the dragon's attack but by now rebuilding was well underway and the signs of the ravage were slowly beginning to fade.
The sounds of the unearthly screeching and the cries of the people below. He could see the strange creature, and knew right away it had to be a creature of magic. No natural being could look like this thing did. Instinctively, he ordered his armor brought and put on him. He would not risk going out into the fray just yet, but if the city was under attack, he needed to be prepared for battle at any moment. He knew the wisdom of protecting himself as the king, but he was also not a man who would stand idly by while his people were attacked. If it came down to it, he would not hesitate to help defend the city.
He gave an order for one of his knights to go find Prince Arthur, they needed to communicate and coordinate the defense. Uther ordered, though, that they would communicate by messenger if Arthur was unable to leave the battle to speak with him directly. He also got his guards into place to try and defend the castle if the creature turned its wrath on it directly.

Uther watched mostly silently as the boy was brought out and secured in place. Arthur was still talking, pleading with him to reduce the punishment to five lashes instead of ten, but Uther wasn't in a negotiating mood at the moment. He really didn't understand Arthur's attachment to the servant anyway, the nobles and royalty normally did not grow too close to the hired help. They were supposed to treat them well, but no one batted an eye if a level of abuse took place. Uther just shook his head at Arthur
"I am not negotiating with you, Arthur. I do not know why you plead for him anyway, he is just a servant. But in any case, my decision stands. Begin."
Uther once again began counting as the whip's crack rang out. He didn't step in this time, as he had with Arthur, but waited for the final stroke before ordering him released. Gaius could begin giving him treatment, and Arthur would be taken for the rest of his punishment. Uther was a bit surprised to see the boy's mother here, though he said little more as the event drew to a close.

Uther was holding court, specifically an auidence to officially confer a new title to a knight's new wife. Delilah, soon to be Lady Delilah, had not been in Camelot long this time, although she had lived here in the past for a time. She was widowed for some time now, but had never recieved the title she deserved while her husband lived, and then she had left Camelot. Now that she had returned, Uther was making amends for it.
Uther was always uneasy about imposters and forgeries, espescially since the exposure of Lancelot's deception two years ago. He was fairly sure everything was in order this time, but he always had the records thoroughly checked by Geoffrey to make sure. This time, obviously, would be no different. He would not have the Knight's Code broken, even if he was not above bending it himself on occasion; his cases were different. The good of the kingdom demanded exceptions to the rule on occasion, and when Arthur had been in danger in the tourney that time, the Knight's Code did not matter.
"Come forward,Delilah"Uther bade her in preparation to do the brief ceremony.

He was still lying in bed, where Gaius had led him after his lashing out and messing up a lot of things around the room. He wasn't very responsive to Gwen's movement around the room, his mind fixated on what he had just seen out near the well. It had been frightening but not intolerable at first, the drowned children, the people he'd killed. But this was different. This was horrifying and devastating and shocking all at once. He knew it was her, he'd never forget her face, her body.
"It was her...I saw her. I KNOW it was her. It could be no one else!" He'd been saying this on and off since Gaius had been there and was still insisting the same things to Gwen. He wasn't really cognant of who was who,not completely aware of who Gwen was, although he'd known Gaius, and he'd recognize Arthur or Morgana probably. "I know my wife, I can never forget her. It was her!"

She was trying to make him see reason, and he could tell quite easily. Unfortunately, he was far past that point, even though he knew she was right. It was not something he would ever admit, though, not to her or anyone else. He was too jaded, too embittered, and too proud to lower himself to that level. She even threw in a jab about the fact that anything used to supress magic would likely be made of magic. That Uther did not like; no matter how he tried to rationalize it, he'd end up being hypocritical. But, it was not the first time and it likely wouldn't be the last that he'd bent the rules for himself.
"I understand perfectly that magic corrupts and destroys. It turns those who use it evil. To know the heart of one sorcerer is to know them all. Even if they do not appear to be evil, they will become evil sooner or later. And as long as that can happen, they are a threat to my kingdom."
Uther still didn't like her being around when Gaius came. If she did intend any harm, he could not do a thing to stop her. Plus, she'd only speak of things the way she saw them, just as she always did, trying to turn people against him.
"Spread more of your lies is more like it" the king grumbled. All you repeatedly do is try to poison more minds against the truth."

Uther was hardly surprised at Arthur's reactions. He was enchanted, he could not be expected to think clearly. And the things he was saying were only adding to Uther's belief. He felt sorry for Arthur as he started yelling that he would leave Camelot and even give up his claim to the throne. Uther, of course, was not going to hear of that. He wasn't going to be able to get Arthur to see reason, though, until after the girl was dead, and he knew it. It frustrated him, but there was little he could do.
"I cannot expect you to understand what she is doing in your current situation. You cannot think clearly until the enchantment is broken. I am only sorry that this was allowed to occur; it pains me greatly to see you in such a state." He reached out, touching a hand to one of Arthur's cheeks for a moment, looking into his son's distraught eyes. He felt his anger grow hotter at how this girl was making him act."Tomorrow, she will be dead and the enchantment will be broken. I know that you cannot see it now, but everything will be fine. I will save you from this filthy sorceress's enchantment; I will make you better. You'll see that I am right when it's all over."

Arthur came running in just as Uther finished speaking the words of the sentence. He looked up, signaling to his guards to restrain the prince and ensure that he didn't try anything he'd regret. They came forward, blocking and holding Arthur so that he couldn't reach the king without being killed by the two of them. Uther had anticipated this. THe boy was enchanted, and he wasn't thinking clearly. The spell would only be broken when the girl was consumed by the flames at dawn.
"You would do well to remember who it is you are speaking to. You may be the crown prince, but I can still have you punished for such disrespect. I am still your king, and you will show me the proper respect!" Uther growled, annoyed at his son's irreverence.
"The girl is a witch. I was right long ago, when I sentenced her to death previously. She may not have been guilty then, but she is now. This was found in your chambers by my men."Uther held up the poultice."It is marked with symbols of the Old Religion, and it is obvious that she is responsible. She has enchanted you, Arthur. And there can be only one punishment for sorcery. She shall die in the flames at dawn. And until the enchantment is broken, you will be confined to your chambers under guard. I will not have you doing anything rash while you cannot think clearly."

Uther had suspected his son would remain silent. He'd had a glimmer of hope for some form of apology, some acknowledgement that it had been an enchantment, but Arthur was having none of it. That was what kept Uther's suspicions heightened, making him question whether it was entirely an enchantment or not. It was obvious he was unhappy about the public nature of the flogging, but it was indeed an exercise in humility. The guards had readied him, inducing him to remove his tunic and securing him to the pole, bare back exposed. Uther raised his hand and gave the signal.
"One"
*crack*
"two"
*crack*
"three"
*crack*
"four"
*crack*
Uther then raised his hand, gesturing for the whip to be handed to him.
"I shall deliver this one final lash as a reminder to you. I am your king and the one you serve. Your loyalty must always be first and foremost to be and to Camelot."
Uther drew back his arm and brought the whip forward, cracking it one final time accross his son's already blood-splattered back. He motioned the guards to free him then.
"You will be allowed treatment by Gaius, and then you will be confined, as you were sentenced. And you will not see the girl during your weak of confinement. If I catch her sneaking in, let it be known that she will be flogged as well. Guards, bring me the servant now, and secure him to the pole. Arthur, you will remain long enough to watch, as a reminder that your actions, good or bad, always have an effect on others. Had you been a shrewder master, he would not be recieving his punishment now."

Uther had expected her to deny everything. It was quite typical; a desperate attempt to avoid punishment. But Uther couldn't stop thinking of Arthur's actions, his rashness, his seeming inability to listen to reason. An enchantment was the only thing that made sense to the king. He knew he could easily get answers if he really wanted to, but he was hoping to avoid having to phsyically induce a confession. She was already frightened, and he didn't think it would take much to get a confession.
"I believe the evidence is quite visible even without the poultice. It is the only rational explanation for Arthur's actions in all of this. He is doing things that he would never consider doing were his mind not being controlled by magic of some kind."
She made a comment about him not knowing about love, and Uther felt a surge of rage. He drew his hand back and brought it down hard accross her face, eyes blazing with anger. He knew full well what it was like to love someone and then see that person ripped away from him, slowly dying while he could do nothing. Ygraine was everything to him, and this girl had the audacity to mock his love.
"You DARE speak to me in such a way??? I'll have you know Ygraine was everything to me! I think it is you who knows nothing, who decieves and enchants the prince because she knows she is only a lowly servant who will never have him. You are not content to seek among your own class; instead you attempt to force to yourself what you have no hope of getting any other way. And for that, you will pay! You have been found guilty of using sorcery, and in accordence with the laws of Camelot, you shall be sentenced to death by burning at the stake!"

"I do not kill the innocent! No one who uses magic is truly innocent, regardless of who they are. They are all a danger to the kingdom![ It is not I who is corrupt, I am one of the few who can see the real truth and who knows how dangerous magic truly is."
There was a fire, an anger in his eyes that no rationalization cold quell. In a sense, Uther was hopelessly deluded by now, although he would never feel he was. he was bitter and vengeful, dedicated to exacting similair suffering out of revenge for the suffering inflicted on him. He knew that Nimueh was the one who truly needed to die. She had used magic to grant his wish and in doing so had started the events that would take her life. Uther would not trade Arthur for anything. He loved the boy dearly, though he rarely showed it. But he would still give anything to have Ygraine by his side once again.
"To contain you would require suppressing your magic. There are devices that exist, and I will find one if I can, but there is no use exhausting the guards chasing something they cannot catch."
He then growled when she mentioned Gaius. "You will not touch him...you will not harm any more of those close to me! You will not be satsified until you have taken everything from me, I know it. And I will fight you until my dying breath!
