As much as Merlin's amusement was wavering slightly, he knew that for Arthur's sake he had to carry on. They were talking about hiding places and the King seemed more enthusiastic about turning it into a game, now proceeding to dive behind a large rock that suddenly appeared to be talking. "I bet you can not see me!"
"Oh of course...what a fantastic hiding place....for an ANT." Merlin sighed, "We need a cave Arthur, something to completly conceal ourselves in, in a part of the forest where no one will even bother to find us." Well that was impossible, Agravaine would search everywhere until he found them.
Arthur's head emerged from the side of the rock. "Why? Who are the men on horses? What will happen if they find us?" Merlin sighed and turned away from him. "They're not nice Arthur, they betrayed you and if they find us then...I dread to think, but you need to just listen to me and follow me ok?" he ran a hand through his hair, "oh and don't talk to any strange men ok..."
Merlin turned round to find that Arthur was gone. "Don't worry. They will not be able to find us here. It is the perfect hiding spot!" He almost jumped as the rock began to talk again.
"Ok...we'll keep this one in mind, but there are better ones out there you need to find for me, can you do that?" he asked, feeling like he was talking to a child. "and you know what to do if you see the men on horses don't you?"

"Seven?!" His voice came out in a hurried squeak. He cleared his throat to actually calm himself. SEVEN MONTHS?! Merlin didn't know how long that he had been expecting her to say, but seven? That wasn't long at all in his view - especially when the days were just flying by. That wouldn't be enough time would it? There was too much to do. Or was there? He know the first thing about babies, and could see himself dropping the poor thing on it's head! "I mean...er.. seven...yaaaay!" he threw his hands up in the air as he tried to express some excitement. In all honesty he was now scared to death at the thought - this was far scarier than anything he'd ever faced with Arthur.
Merlin sighed and sat down on a free chair opposite Freya. "Im going to be a terrible father...I can just see it." He felt his forehead connect with the tabletop - letting out a muffle 'ow'.
Seven Months, Seven Months, Seven Months..................
That was the only thing that was running around screaming in his mind. Seven to try and mould and prepare himself to be something that was far more challenging than Arthur.
SEVEN, SEVEN, SEVEN....
Yup...he was going to need some advice on this one...
SEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEVEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEN
Did the dragon know about babies? If he did Merlin could see himself trekking all the way to Camelot just to find out how to hold one properly. Then again the dragon wouldn't be pleased to see him at all as he'd turned his back on him. It was right now that he wished he had a father would could give him a heads up on this sort of thing, but no. This was something that he knew he would have to figure out by himself.

Merlin could see that she was struggling to breathe. He didn't want her to be in any pain because of him. Yes Freya was a determind one, but when it came down to the choice between her going through pain because of him and leaving now to get back into the water safely knowing that they would meet again - Merlin would choose the latter. He frowned slightly. "You need to get back into the water - you're starting to suffer being up here too long".
But as ever the conversation changed to how he had been. He shrugged this off. His life had been just as it ever would be. Destiny. Saving Arthur and not getting any thanks because of what he was hiding. Running errands for Gauis. It would all just be a circle and Merlin would see himself through it. "Same as ever" he shrugged again, "Just doing my job and being me - nothing special really" he gave her a smile. "What about you?"
Merlin hoped that she hadn't been risking herself like this before they'd met again. Soon she would have to go back to the water and he would have to get back to Gauis and back to his duty, not knowing if he would ever see her again - but there was always hope.

Running errands for Gauis was the last thing that Merlin actually wanted to do. He'd spent the morning being bossed around by Arthur, and now it was Gauis' turn. Merlin wondered why both of them felt the need to see him as just a dogsbody...wait...he remembered why. Because he was!
Ever since they'd taken back Camelot and with Morgana gone (to where Merlin didn't know) things had changed. Arthur was King and Camelot appeared a far happier place in Merlin's eyes. Even if Arthur didn't think that he was doing a good job, he most certainly was, especially after the scene at the creepy druid shrine (that Merlin NEVER wished to return to). Merlin had never seen Arthur in that light before, and it had only made him more proud of his friend, although he was never going to admit it to Arthur. His ego was big enough already, and he doubted that Arthur would appreciate "Sire, you made me so proud when you actually cried in front of me" as a key reason for having the making of a good King. Merlin had faith in him and so did everyone else, so Arthur had nothing to fear when it came to gaining the trust of his people. He'd already succeeded in doing so when he was a Prince.
He looked up from where he was knelt over some herb that he couldn't quite pronounce the name of, and around. He could feel as though he was being watched and could definatly sense eyes burning on. Merlin got to his feet scanning the trees, bushes and just the general greenness around him. He'd learnt that when all was quiet, not everything was usually how they seemed, and Merlin could definatly sense that feeling right now.
Someone was out there. Someone who he knew was not in his 'friend' catergory. He decided that he would keep his guard well beyond 'up' so as he would be ready for whatever there was to throw at him.

I hate it when I read stuff about this!!! It makes me so angry Why can't they just accept the fact and get over it! This really doesn't do the Merlin fandom any favours if he knows there are people like that out there.
Ergh! so called 'fans' really do miff me off, especially ones who do this!
GET A LIFE comes to mind.

He knew that he had never loved her as much as he did at the moment. It was as though as this was what his destiny was all about. No expectations from anyone, no need to be relied upon all the time (ok yes, but not in the way that you had to wait upon a Prince). It was his destiny now to keep Freya and his little one from harm. To protect them in a way that did not involve talking to dragons. He was pretty sure that the dragon would not be able to give him parenting advice. He'd have to figure that one out on his own.
They, of course, would need to be prepared - conceiving the baby was preparation in itself but now it would involve more. Far more. They would need to think about things that they hadn't have had to before. Cots, clothing, perhaps some kind of lock on the door so as it wouldn't float out into the garden and in full view of people who passed. The house was out of the way, but people would still notice a levitating baby floating towards them! Ok, he needed to breathe, this would be alright...
He looked to Freya and kissed her head, "A new life, a new chapter" he smiled, taking her hand to sit her down at the table. "Bryne" he looked at the candles that began to light themselves before clasping his hands together, giving Freya a cheeky smile. "Blóstma" at which point he opened his hands and presented her with...a flower. Something that he had done when they first met, except it had 'meant' to be strawberries...yeah right!

"She was in Camelot,"
Merlin heard the hurt in Arthur's words. She had been there yes, but Arthur's voice carried no anger, more hurt that he never got the chance to see her again. Merlin understood that he was angry in the first place when he'd sent her away. He had never agreed with Arthur's desicion but had never spoken up about it, even when Arthur was threatening to exile him as well, but he knew that eventually Arthur would come around and begin to see the mistake that he had made, even if he did not actually admit it. "What if, something happens to her."
He was still toying with the ring, and now it was up to Merlin to say something clever in order to make Arthur's mind ease for a while. Right now it was hard to come up with anything along the lines of "by the way, it was magic that was involved, not lust" that was subtle. "I..." he began. He knew Gwen would go to Ealdor again, so he was safe in the knowledge that she was ok - but he couldn't tell Arthur where she was. No he had to figure his own heart out by himself. "I'm sure she's fine." he nodded, satisfied with his answer but then looked at the ring. He knew what kinds of thoughts could be running through Arthur's mind at the moment.
"Gwen knows how to look after herself, i'm sure that she's safe." he told him. Merlin knew she was, but it was take quite some consolation from him to make Arthur see that. "One day you'll see her again - banished or not"
Notes: Ok well that was rather ooc!

She was certain that it was in there...well that was a relief! Even as she held his hand to her stomach, he was sure he could sense something. Either that or he was going to pass out at any given moment.
“I don’t think I’ve ever been this happy.”
Merlin held onto her tightly. Not even happy could describe how he was feeling at the moment! It was more than that! "Well now you have a reason to" he grinned, "We both do..." He put his hands on her shoulders and stepped back to look at her.
"This is the beginning for us..." he told her excitedly, "A chance to finally forget the past and live how we have wanted to since we first came here!"

He'd been sent to find Gwen - who he knew would be cleaning up Arthur's chambers from the mess that had been created. They were going to be married! Gwen was going to finally be Queen! Merlin couldn't hold in his excitement for any longer and had set off almost immediatly as he had been told to. He'd even stopped along the way for some flowers to take to her. Purple of course. Besides, she derserved them, this was a memorable occasion after all! And plus he hadn't brought her flowers in ages.
Of course he would find Gwen in Arthur's chambers, putting the last of adjustments to it former glory. She'd done a good job at making it look how it was again - something Merlin couldn't have done (purely because he was either cleaning or being told to sharpen Excalibur for most of the time)
He poked his head around the door and grinned - unable to keep the expression off of his face, "Gwen?" he called, wanting to make sure that she was actually there and not lurking with a jug - ready to ponce on some unsuspecting servant thinking that they were Morgana. "Gweeeeeen?" He called a little louder as he walked in more.

"No! It's nothing bad. Nothing that you've done."
Ok that was a relief
"Actually, something we've both done."
Uh oh...
Merlin walked a few slow steps towards her and frowned at her. "Something bad?" he asked still a little uncertain, even if she had said otherwise earlier. Something was up, and he was wondering what on earth she actually meant. She walked to him and took his hands. Ok...this wasn't unusual but given the currently strange circumstances, Merlin wasn't sure what was going to follow.
"I'm with child."
Oh that was good she was only with chi...
WAIT.....
WHAT!
Had he heard that correctly? Did she mean that she was with a child? As in, a child in their house? He blinked and looked around - seeing that their was indeed no other company. No...that couldn't have been right, he must've heard correctly...
"You...You're with child?" he looked at her astonished, "You...right now.." he put his hand on her stomach, "are with child?" he finished off. He saw the expression on her face and he didn't even need confirmation. The look was enough.
"I...I think I need to sit down..." Merlin literally was about to slump right onto his backside had he not have used magic to move the chair to catch his fall. She was carrying a child. Their baby. Yes they had been trying but even he couldn't have prepared himself for this news.
Now it was all beginning to sink in. Their baby. It actually now exsisted...well...sort of...but it really exsisted! He looked up to Freya and grinned, finally getting up and placing a hand on her stomach. "Are...are you sure?" he asked excitedly. He really needed to be sure that this was real. "Are you sure that..." Oh what the hell! Instead he settled for kissing her deeply. It was real and soon it would be true.
Their family was almost complete.

He was tired, it had been a long day and all Merlin wanted to do was to get home to Freya and just fall into bed and sleep! The light from his home brought a smile to his face as he knew that she would be there waiting for him, just like she usually was.
Merlin opened the door, and walked in, closing it behind him and taking off his jacket. "Im home! You have nooooo idea how exhausting today was, I mean - I know farming is hard but..." he stopped on seeing Freya's face, "Why are you looking at me like that?" he asked curiously. First of all, what had he done? and secondly, how had he done it when he was hardly at home?
"Ok" he sighed, "What have I done?" the question lingered, Merlin waiting for her to either kill him or yell at him or something. Freya had that impatient look about her, as though there was something that she needed to get off her chest.

A grin spread over his lips when she said that she liked the name. He was sure it would go nicely with any little boy of theirs - should they come to have one. Merlin didn't mind whatever they had. A girl he could dote on and a boy he could teach the tricks of the trade too. One thing for sure, was that he'd protect them both with his life.
They would learn. Both of them. He would learn, just as he had done with his magic and how to become stronger and more controlled. A baby wasn't like reading from a magic book though, nor was it like practicing a spell over and over until you got it right. It was a baby - a small life of whom was totally dependant on it's parents. A baby that could not control their abilties and was vulnerable. A baby who would eventually start to learn as it grew older from both him and Freya.
They would all learn together. As a family.
He leant over and kissed her forehead as she kissed his hand. A family. Together. The start of something new.

Merlin mocked a look of offence and grinned at Freya's little joke. Ailith? Ailith. The name rolled in his mind until he spoke it out loud. "Ailith." he rolled it on his tongue and nodded in approval, "I quite like that." he smiled. Merlin scrunched up his nose at both of the boys names. "I stiiiiill prefer Merlin junior?" a small grin formed on his lips.
Merlin thought for a while. Boys...boys names. Actually - there was one that he quite liked. "I can only think of one, I doubt you'll like it so if not then Merlin junior will have to be it - but it's Haelan." he told her. "But...well, im sure we'll think of something."
He rolled onto his side and propped himself up on his elbow again watching her and playing with the same lock of hair. "There's not even a baby yet and already im finding this hard. I'm going to be the worst father ever."

He toyed with a lock of her hair mindlessly as she spoke of choosing a name so they had one all ready for if she was to become with child. Merlin hadn't a clue about parenting or even any decent names that could befall their child, so he knew he wouldn't be of much use when it came down to making the choice.
"It doesn't help that I know practically nothing about names for babies. I...wasn't expecting to ever have a child..." he admitted. Well not when he was back and working for Arthur - all of his time had been devoted to the Prince, getting him out of trouble, steering him onto his right path of destiny and being yelled at. Merlin had thought that he would have been in Arthur's service for the rest of his life - but when he met Freya...that changed, he wanted his life to be with her, and her only.
Merlin chuckled as she admitted she had no clue of any. "Well then...Merlin junior it is then" he grinned down at her.

Once again Merlin found himself being put in charge of Arthur's sword. The King would have him guard it all day and night if he had his way. Merlin had noticed that his friend too great pride and care with his newest accessory, and so he should! It was a sword forged from the dragons breath that could slay even the toughest of beasts and men.
Merlin could hear the approachoing footsteps and out of the corner of his eye, could see Arthur's expression. No he hadn't broken the sword or anything so he needn't have worried. Merlin looked up and then held the sword up, waving it about in the air to show Arthur that it was still in one piece. "Still in tact sire!" he grinned. "Hows my sword coming along?" Merlin carried on polishing the blade. "Im surprised you even let me touch it" he replied, "You haven't allowed it to leave your side since..." he trailed off, "Anyway! here you go" He held up the sword for Arthur to take and inspect.
Merlin watched and grinned up at the King. "and you thought that my story telling was a load of rubbish". Arthur had scoffed at it at first - but Merlin had proved him wrong, and in his opinion, he was a pretty darn good storyteller. "I told you that you were the true King of Camelot". He sighed and stood up, "Buuuuut of course you didn't listen to me at first - as usual- but then the look on your face when you saw that sword!" he smirked, "I knew you could do it...I wouldn't have taken you there if I didn't have any faith in a prat like you".

He felt the warmth of her as she rested her head against his chest. He gently placed a kiss on her hair and wove his free arm around her, pulling her closer to him. A small smile spread across his face as she started to mention that they needed a name. He let out a small chuckle - the child didn't exist yet and already they were planning ahead. Merlin liked the idea - just the vision of another life running about the place made him smile - even if it was going to be harder work than most babies.
A magical baby would need more time, more control. For a start they had no control over their powers and were more vulnerable at being found out than an older child would be. Merlin sometimes wondered how his mother coped when he was born. Having to control him without actually having magic to help her prevent his own. She'd come through it, so if she could do it - then Merlin and Freya most certainly could.
"Hmmm...names..." he thought out aloud, "Did you have any in mind?"

"We'll plan our own future," Merlin smiled as she said this. A future with Freya was all he wanted, and now that it was happening - he couldn't be happier. "We'll be together...with our baby." Just those words made him kiss her again. A future with their baby. Something to finally call their own, as it would be both of their blood...and of course, of magic.
"I couldn't think of anything better" he murmered, before laying back down, putting one of his arms behind his head to rest it upon and staring at the ceiling. "Although I still think i'd rather have it look like you than me" he smirked, knowing that Freya would disagree.
Merlin was surprised he was now talking so openly and comfortable about the subject - pehaps them making that move had made him more comfortable on delicate situations and conversations such as the one they were having right now. He liked that they could now speak freely of it, and other things - and Merlin was certainly willing to listen to Freya's opinions.

Merlin laid there afterwards, still a little dazed at what had just happened. Now that was better than he'd actually expected, if not more than better. He turned his head to Freya, who was now brushing back some of his hair. He smiled at her and turned to face her, propping himself up on his elbow.
He was lucky. That was the only way to describe them. Lucky. Lucky to have found one another, to have run away for this life, not knowing what would await them - Lucky to have a future and one that didn't entail him to have a destiny to fulfill. The only destiny he had now was her, and their future. Right now that seemed so much closer than before, It was more possible to just reach out and grab it. This was all falling into place. It was real. It was love.
"I love you more" he told her and leant in, placing a long and lingering kiss onto her lips, "I told you you were special" he murmered, "and I was right...I cannot lose you Freya - you're the only one who's kept me going since leaving Camelot."
